The Baltic Sea resort of Göhren is located on the Mönchgut peninsula and is still strongly influenced by its fishing heritage today. This nearly lost craft is showcased, illustrated, and explained in the museums in and around Göhren—a little journey back in time. In the surrounding small villages, such as Groß Zicker and Gager, you can buy freshly caught Baltic Sea fish from local fishermen almost every morning. On Mönchgut itself, there are well-developed biking and hiking trails. This means you can leave your car behind during your stay on the island of Rügen. If the trip back is too far, you’re also welcome to take the bus or the “Rasender Roland” train home. This train runs daily from the Baltic resort of Göhren through the Baltic resorts of Baabe, Sellin, and Binz to Putbus and back again.
