Umgebinde 1657 is a quaint half-timbered house on a sunny mountainside in the spa town of Bad Schandau—just a few metres from the Elbe River and offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding forests and cliffs. A magical spot in Saxon Switzerland for unforgettable moments with friends and family: hiking, exploring, cooking, reading, and spending time together. Our sustainably renovated historic landmark offers plenty of space, peace, and cosiness across approximately 195 square metres for up to 14 people. Chop vegetables in the large kitchen, sweat it out in your apartment’s sauna, lounge on the stove bench and gaze into the fire, watch the deer from the windowsill, finally sleep in again in our incredibly cosy beds, and dream of your next hiking trip. Eco-friendly, sustainably renovated, and operated without harmful substances and with minimal use of plastic—we want to leave this beautiful corner of the world in better shape than we found it. That’s why we heat the house with geothermal energy, among other things, and offer our guests products from regional sources. You can make your way here in a relaxed manner by paddlewheel steamboat, bike, train, car, bus, or even at a leisurely pace on foot with a backpack. Getting to Krippen is easy—it’s only leaving this little paradise on the Elbe that will be hard for you. We’re centrally located, accessible even without a car, and yet off the beaten track. Just a stone’s throw away from the National Park train station, the Elbe Cycle Route and the Malerweg trail, the thermal baths, and the local shops. An ideal starting point for exploring the over 1,200 km of hiking trails and the countless activities the surrounding area has to offer.<br> With 150 square metres of space, you can meet up with good friends or invite the whole family. Up to 11 people can eat, cook, relax, linger, read, and play here together. The highlight: the log cabin with its large, old tiled stove. In the wild orchard or on the terrace under the walnut tree, you’ll find tranquil spots for barbecuing and relaxing. After long bike rides or hikes, you’ll look forward to the sauna in the old goat barn or the heated hot tub in the garden. The cosy heart of the log cabin: sofa and wingback chair, reading nook, wood-burning fireplace with a bench and a supply of firewood, library with books about the region, game collection, flat-screen smart TV with Netflix and TVNow, Bluetooth-enabled stereo, high-speed Wi-Fi, and Ethernet ports. The house offers four bedrooms with three 180x200 cm double beds and four bunk beds. Cosy, eco-friendly, and sustainable bedding from the Hefel manufactory. Three bathrooms with two showers, a toilet, a hair dryer, towels, and sustainable soap from the region are at your disposal. The fully equipped kitchen features a dishwasher, ceramic cooktop (induction), oven, toaster, coffee maker, kettle, refrigerator with freezer compartment, and a mountain cellar that serves as a large walk-in refrigerator for your drinks, as well as a dining area with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy a meal. The sauna is located in the old goat barn, and there’s a cold-water spring in the garden for cooling off. A hiking planning centre in the entryway and a hiking boot drying station in the vestibule. Low-plastic and toxin-free furnishings and equipment from sustainable sources. The garden next to the house, complete with a terrace and grill, features a dining table with benches, lounge chairs, a fire pit, and a hot, wood-fired hot tub filled with fresh spring water (please reserve in advance). Includes bed linens and towels, a washing machine, an iron, an ironing board, final cleaning, and access to the digital guest guide with information on tours and the surrounding area. Please note that smoking is not permitted in the holiday rental and that, unfortunately, we cannot accommodate pets.
