LOCATION, LOCATION – the best way to enjoy your stay is in a 3rd (top) floor beachfront condo like Building B at the Pono Kai Resort. Leave the lanai curtains open and enjoy the sound of waves on the beach, feel the trade wind breeze, and watch the sun rise each morning. Our condo faces east and outsiders cannot observe the occupants. Unit is accessible by stairs or elevator. The Pono Kai Resort is located in the town of Kapaa on 13 tropical acres. This family oriented resort has many daily activities and complimentary equipment for all, including: outdoor Jacuzzi, large pool, indoor sauna, multiple propane barbecues, picnic tables, tennis court, volleyball court, shuffleboard, putting green, bocce ball, ping pong, and croquet court. Feed the fish in the Japanese Koi pond. Take a short walk to 'Baby Beach', a protected ocean pool for toddlers to enjoy the ocean. Our condo features free WiFi internet access, two TV's, CD & DVD players, music & video library. Our kitchen is well equipped. If you like to cook, you'll be happy. PARKING IS FREE.

A new popular 8-mile oceanfront path is a wonderful place to walk, jog or bike. The Pono Kai Resort is within walking distance of supermarkets, drug stores, banks and a variety of restaurants. Because of this, some guests rent a car for only one week during their multi week stays.

NOTE: Best ocean view. Fully equipped kitchen. Quality portable beach chairs and ice chests. Condo has not been remodeled. Pictures are accurate, but no recessed lighting or wide screen TV. No A/C but good trade winds. Not recommended If you are heat sensitive. Our queen size bed is a soft pillow top. $210/night INCLUDES ALL TAXES, our pre-tax rate is only $178. $150 housekeeping fee for cleanup after departure. $300 fee required for stays of 21 nights or more - housekeeping performed at mid-stay and after departure.

This was the perfect location for my stay on the island. The view was amazing. Waking up to the sunrise and going to sleep to the sound of the waves was awesome. I appreciated being close to the grocery store and loved having the walking bike path right in front of the property. The hammocks were nice. Again, I was all over the island, so I was never more than an hour from any activity. The place was comfortable and well-kept, and met my needs. Thanks for a great stay! I hope to return soon:)

Perfect Stay

Harley and Anna offer a wonderful experience in this beautiful property. It is just off of the bike path and perfectly positioned to watch the sun rise from the balcony. The property is equipped everything you need to stay on property or venture out for a day at the beach. We celebrated our 25 anniversary here and loved every minute of our stay. Clean and comfortable 1 bedroom condo with fantastic ocean view. No air conditioning which is no problem with the condo layout - just open the ocean front slider and bedroom windows for great air flow. All the amenities that you need. property in excellent location to explore island. Definitely recommend property.

If you are in need of excellent value, and would love a great ocean view, you definitely want to consider this unit at Pono Kai! Yes it needs updating, and more attention to some details, but those things are quite easily overlooked once you have the chance to take in the view from the lanai. We enjoyed our stay, and would definitely stay again.

A truly fabulous top floor location with an unobstructed ocean view. Married on Oahu 50 years ago and visiting often since this was our first visit to Kauai. We will be coming back and hope we can book this spot again...definitely a gem. Mahalo for sharing with us. We now start our next 50 years.

What a perfect location! The room was nice. Completely set up kitchen we just needed to stop by the nearby grocery store and get what we wanted. Walk down the street for food and shopping. This is the second time I stayed at Pono Kai. I will be back.

Beautiful oceanfront view

Great unit right on the oceanfront ! The view was amazing and we listened to the waves every night as we went to bed . Very well equipped condo and had everything we need to make us comfortable for our stay . We loved the path out front and rented bicycles to go from end to end . Lovely ride . Great location as we were able to walk to town easily to get a bite or groceries we needed . Had a nice pool as well as other options like horse shoes , corn hole or putting greens . Would definitely recommend this condo and the complex itself !

The property is not well maintained. There is rust on the light fixtures in the bathroom, rust on ceiling fans, there was dirt behind the hamper in the bathroom, the tub was filthy, 2 electrical outlets do not work, and the bed is beyond well worn (there is a 3-inch topper on a very old mattress). The view from the Lenai, breathtaking.

Great location

This condo is in a great location for getting around the island easily. We drove to the North Shore, the Waimea Canyon, the south side—all easy drives. The town of Kapa’a was charming and we walked to many of the restaurants and shops. The wide sidewalk outside the unit was a great place to walk and see the beautiful ocean and beaches. The beach outside the condo was adequate for the little bit of beach time that we wanted. The view from the beachfront balcony was great. The condo is a bit worn, and the bed’s foam topper is way too soft for our taste, but all in all it was a nice place to stay. We really didn’t miss the AC with the doors open and the fans going. The owner and property manager were very accommodating and allowed a late checkout since we had a late flight out.

Very nice condo--but...

We had to call the local property manager every day we were there because of a toilet that wouldn't flush. Also, no one mentioned the extra lever on the door; because it looked like a dead bolt, the condo was actually unlocked part of the time.

We had no kitchen linens and coffee maker was missing. We did get the coffee maker but never received any kitchen linens. It should be made more clear in the advertisement that there is NO air conditioning. Unfortunately with the unit being so warm it attracted cockroaches. (we have pictures)

Property is dated but we knew that going in. What we didn’t know was that the dishwasher was NOT working and for three days we went without one. Then we spent almost two full days in our condo while they attempted to replace the dishwasher with a new one. The microwave has some sort of electrical malfunction going on in behind the control panel and it “Zaps & Sparks”, was able to take a video to send to owner and manager. The owner was unwilling to compensate us for any of our inconvenience and loss of time while on our holidays. For that reason alone, we will NEVER rent B-306 again!

NO AIR CONDITIONER AS LISTED ON THE AMENITIES!!!

We picked this place based on location and air conditioning. The location is great but under the property amenities it shows air conditioning. The owner is aware and this is very misleading. We had to find another place to stay after the first night because it was way too hot in the bedroom. We ended up sleeping in the living room with three fans blasting and the lanai door open. When we reached out to the owner they said that they rely on the trade winds. This is great if you have the front door open to create a cross breeze. However, one can not sleep with the front door nor the bedroom windows open as they are located in the walkway that leads to the other condos, and would not be secure. Basically, this was a lost cost for us. The owners really need to correct their listing. We feel that this is false advertising.

Sehr schönes Appartement mit kleinen Schönheitsfehlern

Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Aufenthalt im Appartement welches im Pono Kai Resort verortet ist. Die Aussicht ist traumhaft. Das Appartement ist jedoch ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen und bedarf hier und da einer Überholung (z.b. Badarmaturen). Das Appartement war sehr sauber und die Dame, die sich vor Ort darum kümmert war außerordentlich nett. Alles in Allem gute 4 Sterne! Danke.

Why they chose this property

We rented this condo from the prior owners for over 15 years. It's the best condo in the best location. We like the people of Kapaa and always feel right at home. Kapaa is only 7.6 miles from the Lihue Airport and is located mid way between Poipu and Princeville, which are on opposite ends of the main highway.

What makes this property unique

Our east facing condo is only a stone's throw from the beach. Because it's on the 3rd floor, the unobstructed view from the living room is of the ocean and the tops of a few palm trees. We never close the curtains because we're too high for anyone to see in. We enjoy watching the sunrise and feeling the trade winds. We're away from the general foot traffic. Few people use the 8 mile bike path or beach near the condo. If you don't like crowds, this is the place. Well equipped kitchen. All necessary dishes, glasses and utensils. Many pots, pans and appliances including blender, Belgian waffle maker and George Foreman grill.
