Spring & Summer When the snow melts, Crosscut transforms into a mountain biking and trail running destination — 5-mile flow trail and extensive cross-country networks right next door. Twenty minutes away, the Gallatin River offers blue ribbon trout fishing. Thirty minutes out, the Shields River — uncrowded, spectacular, and one of Montana's best-kept secrets — comes alive with rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Full Yellowstone access opens in summer, under 2 hours south. Fall Fall may be the finest season of all. Trophy brown trout make their spawning run on the Shields River.
