European beech forests grow nowhere else in the world except in Europe. The national park safeguards this natural heritage across an area of nearly 6,000 hectares—the largest unfragmented beech forest complex in Central Europe. These vast forests are no longer used for logging. This is where our “primeval forests of tomorrow” lie. They invite you to relax in an idyllic setting. If you want to observe nature mindfully and experience its awe-inspiring beauty, enjoy hiking, and breathe deeply again, then the National Park is the perfect destination for you. In the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, you are a guest in nature. Observing nature and consciously experiencing its breathtaking beauty—hidden gems within a national park—can be done in many different ways. Explore the park on a hike, bike ride, Nordic walk, horseback ride, or a ride in a covered wagon.

The Edersee and its dam: The Edersee, one of Germany’s largest and cleanest lakes, stretches 27 km in length and offers nearly every water sport possible on a lake. When the water level is low, visitors can see the remains of ancient settlements—such as the Aseler Bridge—and parts of old cemeteries with concrete
