At the Salenberghof, all the animals have names
On our family-run organic farm, all the animals have names and are cared for in a way that’s appropriate for their species. Every animal has very different needs, and we take these into account without exception! The animals’ well-being is our top priority, and we spare no effort to ensure our animals enjoy a wonderful life well into old age.
In a beautiful, sunny location with stunning views of the mountains and lake, female cattle (no dairy cows), cuddly sheep, playful rabbits, nimble guinea pigs, our adventurous cat Bert, and our beloved farm dog Aira have found a truly wonderful home! Here you can get a glimpse of our animals and, hopefully, meet them in person soon!
Our tip for families: All encounters with the animals should always be supervised by a parent or grandparent. This way, your children—as well as our farm animals—can have unforgettable experiences and truly enjoy their time together!
Enjoying the sun and the lush grass
It’s not just holiday guests who enjoy the sun here.
From May through October, our barn is empty, because in the summer the cattle enjoy the lush, fresh grass right in the pastures surrounding the Salenberghof. You’ll find two breeds here: Fleckvieh and Allgäu Brown Cattle. The animals’ care is regularly monitored, and we not only meet but exceed the strict requirements for organic certification.
Have you heard about our “rodent community”?
The spacious hutch for rabbits and guinea pigs is a great way for holidaymakers and farm animals to interact! Children can visit the Rodent Roommates around the clock, accompanied by their parents or grandparents, and pet our cute rodents.
In this beautiful enclosure, a colourful mix of guinea pigs and giant rabbits frolic year-round. We guarantee that the animals are cared for in a species-appropriate manner: Our friendly rodents can hide in wooden houses, explore the grounds and tunnels, and have plenty of space to play with one another. Unlike hares, rabbits build tunnels and love to dig! That’s why it was very important to us to offer the animals plenty of opportunities to express this natural behaviour. The guinea pigs even have a separate enclosure where they can retreat when they want some peace and quiet. This allows for a truly harmonious “communal living” experience—with many wonderful encounters between animals and people.
Our farm animals are free to enjoy life to the fullest and age with dignity.
Curious little sheep
The lovely Allgäu mountain sheep—Klara, Heidi, and Harald—can usually be found grazing in the meadow in front of the open barn with their fluffy friends. In addition to the mountain sheep, we also keep Cameroon sheep, Krainer Steinschaf, and Ouessant sheep.
Did you know that Ouessant sheep are the smallest sheep breed in Europe and that Cameroon sheep aren’t sheared? Our Krainer Stein sheep, on the other hand, are known for their beautiful mixed wool and are unfortunately on the red list. By raising Krainer sheep, we’re helping to preserve an endangered breed! A mixed flock was the best choice for us to give you, our holiday guests, a little glimpse into the diversity of sheep breeds!
Our furry friend on a discovery tour
“Meow, I’m Bert the tomcat from the Salenberghof, and I love lounging in the sun!”
When our tomcat isn’t striding across the farm and exploring the area, he loves nothing more than to curl up by Grandma Rosi’s tiled stove and make himself really cosy. A lovable loner who’s been part of our farm family for many years!
A truly heartwarming storey: Our farm dog “Aira”
Many years ago, our dear farm dog “Aira” made her way from Spain to the beautiful Allgäu region through a recognised animal welfare organisation. She’s been with us on the farm since her “youth” and has been enriching our daily farm life ever since with her sweet, lively nature.
When she’s not accompanying Farmer Stefan or Farmer Stefanie, she roams freely around the farm grounds. She loves to be petted, but—just like you and me—she doesn’t like to be teased!
The total price includes final cleaning as well as bed linens and towels. If you’re spending more than ten nights with us on holiday, you can receive a free towel and linens change. Please schedule an appointment with us for this.
