▶ Property Layout & Boundaries:
The property contains two separate vacation rentals on our nearly 4-acre wooded property. The homes are privately situated, not visible to one another, and do not share amenities or guest spaces. The only shared area is the main driveway entrance.

Although the property feels secluded and neighboring homes are not visible, private properties surround the area. Please remain within the areas designated for your rental and do not enter neighboring properties or any private areas reserved for the hosts, storage, maintenance, or equipment areas.

▶ Children & Safety:
Please note our home has not been child-proofed. Cabinets and drawers do not have child locks. We have an outdoor fire ring, firepit and propane stove in the rec room. The porch railing is not designed to prevent a small child from slipping between the railings. Please supervise children closely at all times.

▶ Local Hosts:
The hosts reside on the property in a separate private area. You may occasionally see us around the property as we go about our daily activities, maintain the grounds or nearby trails, or work on property projects. Guest privacy is important to us, and there is no need to interact unless you wish to. As longtime local residents, we're always happy to share recommendations, favorite hikes, dining suggestions, and hidden gems to help you make the most of your Olympic Peninsula visit.

▶ Water Conservation:
Our home is served by a private well and septic system. We appreciate your help using water responsibly during your stay by avoiding letting faucets and showers run unnecessarily. Conserving water helps protect our local groundwater and supports our environmentally friendly property. Thank you!

▶ EV Charger:
Level 2 — Charge overnight while you relax after exploring Olympic National Park. Tesla drivers need an adapter. Please follow the manufacturer's charging instructions. Guests use charger at their own risk.

▶ Quiet Hours:
This is a peaceful forest setting where sound can carry surprisingly far. To be respectful of neighboring properties and comply with local regulations, quiet hours are observed from 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM. Please keep voices, music, and outdoor activities at a reasonable volume during these hours.

▶ Wildlife & Nature:
We are surrounded by native forest and wildlife. Deer, birds, rabbits, squirrels, and other animals are commonly seen around the property. Please enjoy wildlife from a respectful distance and do not approach or feed animals.

To help keep wildlife wild, do not leave food, beverages, coolers containing food, or scented items outdoors, in backpacks, or in your vehicle. Even small items such as a wrapped granola bar can attract wildlife. A cooler containing only sealed, unopened beverages may be left on the covered porch.

As with any forest environment, insects occasionally find their way indoors. We perform regular inspections and pest control, but you may occasionally spot an insect during your stay.

▶ Sustainable Features & Backup Power:
• We use eco-friendly cleaning products to help maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally conscious space.

• Backup generator for added peace of mind during occasional mountain power outages.

▶ Firewood & Propane:
Your first firewood bundle and first propane tank for the firepit (if under burn bans) are included with your stay. Additional firewood and propane may be purchased from us or obtained locally.

▶ Private Well Water:
Our rural property is served by a private well. The water quality is excellent and provides clean, fresh drinking water throughout the home.

▶ Heating & Cooling:
Three mini-split systems provide heating and cooling throughout the home, with units in the living area, upstairs TV room, and upstairs bedroom.

▶ Wood Stove:
For insurance and safety reasons, the wood stove in the main home is not available for guest use. Please do not attempt to open or operate the stove. The home is heated and cooled by the mini-split system.

▶ Late checkout is not permitted without prior approval. Unauthorized late checkout is subject to a $75 charge per 30-minute period, or portion thereof. The fee does not extend your scheduled checkout time.

We loved our stay in Sequim. Robin and Willie are incredible hosts. The house was very clean, every detail of the home was well thought out and perfect. The yard was as equally as beautiful as the house. Our family really enjoyed our stay here.

Forest Escape - The Name Says It All!Our stay at Forest Escape was absolutely perfect. The property is impeccably maintained and offers true privacy amidst a beautiful forested setting. We loved exploring the on-site trails, relaxing on the front porch, and gathering around the firepit for evening stargazing - the dark sky views were spectacular! The location is ideal for visiting Olympic National Park, with easy access to nearby interesting towns like Port Angeles and Port Townsend for dining and shopping, as well as stunning beaches such as Glass Beach and Salt Creek Recreation Area. A special thank you to our host, Robin, who welcomed us with delicious homemade scones. Robin was incredibly knowledgeable about the area and provided excellent ideas for day trips that make our visit even more memorable. The owners were thoughtful and kind throughout our stay. We highly recommend this gem to anyone seeking nature, tranquility, and adventure!

The owners were there to greet us when we arrived and they showed us around the property. The house is very clean and very well equipped. At the time we arrived there several spices in the cupboard and the knives were very sharp! I can't tell you how many rentals we have stayed in where the knives were all dull and we had to go out and buy every ingredient we needed to make a simple dinner. This place is quite close to a hiking trail that goes into the Olympics, but to get to Hurricane ridge you need to drive to Port Angeles and then go up from there.

Our stay at this house was everything we hoped for, and more! The property is every bit as beautiful and cozy as the pictures. Everything was immaculately clean, and the hosts went above and beyond in setting up the space to accomodate our baby. They texted us before we arrived asking where we would like the crib placed, they set up an adorable high chair and table settings for our baby, and they even placed a box of outlet covers by the door for us to use. What's not pictured in the listing is the warmth of the hosts. I've become accustomed to properties where you never see or interact with the hosts, unless there is a problem. In contrast, Robin and Willie gave great local reccomendations via messages, greeted us when we arrived, cooked and delivered fresh scones our first morning there, helped us set up the firepit, and worked with us to get our EV charging on their property. Their presence brought our stay from great to one-of-a-kind.

We enjoyed having you three as our neighbors even though it was only a couple days. It was fun for us to make sure you were happy and comfortable especially when you were so appreciative. We are glad to have met you and hope that we can keep in touch and see you three again in the future!

About the host

Host profile image

I was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula with 6 generations of family rooted here - many local roads are named after relatives! My great grandfather emigrated here from Hoyland, Norway in 1891 inspiring the name “Hoyland” Retreats. One of my favorite pastimes is harvesting edible plants and beach combing for unique treasures. We love helping guests plan adventures and sharing our favorite hikes, beaches, and hidden spots around the Peninsula. The Olympic Peninsula is truly a special place.

Why they chose this property

Willie and Robin bought the property in 1999. It was just undeveloped, forested land, but perfect for the mountain home they wanted. They had a vision for the property and wanted to save as many trees as possible. Trees along the borders of the property, as well as a middle forest, were kept in place. Felled trees were pulled to where the present main house is located. Most of the timber was sold, but some of the logs were used for siding the house and constructing the posts for the porch.

What makes this property unique

Nestled among towering evergreens bordering Olympic National Forest, the Hoyland Mountain Home offers a peaceful forest retreat with frequent deer and wildlife sightings. The 1,400sqft home has large windows and a covered porch bring the outdoors in. Large outdoor patio space with sink, picnic tables, fire ring, BBQ and hammock create inviting spaces to gather and unwind. Guests love feeling surrounded by nature while staying just 15 minutes from town and within easy reach of Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, beaches, waterfalls, and the best of Olympic National Park.
