The Byrd House — Charming 3-bedroom, 3-livingroom Oceanview house in Wrangell
The Byrd House — Historic Character, Newly Remodeled & Incredible Views
Welcome to The Byrd House, a beautifully remodeled early-1900s Sears home offering historic character, modern comfort, plenty of space, and gorgeous panoramic views of the water and surrounding mountains.
Originally ordered as a Sears home, the house dates back more than a century to an era when homes could be selected from a catalog, with the plans and building materials shipped to communities across the country for construction on site. Today, The Byrd House has been fully remodeled, giving guests the charm and character of a historic home with the fresh, comfortable feel of a newly updated space.
Throughout the remodel, the goal was to preserve what makes an older home special while creating a welcoming and functional place for today's guests. Hardwood floors run throughout the home, complementing its historic character, while updated spaces and amenities make it equally comfortable for a weekend getaway or an extended stay.
Plenty of Room to Spread Out
One of the things that makes The Byrd House especially unique is its size and layout. The home features three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and essentially three separate living areas, giving families and groups plenty of room to be together—and plenty of room to have some space of their own.
The bedrooms include one queen bed and two double beds. The multiple living spaces are perfect for relaxing, reading, watching TV, working remotely, visiting with family, or simply finding a quiet corner at the end of the day.
The home has a full kitchen, making it easy to prepare anything from a quick breakfast before heading out on your adventures, to a family dinner at home. There are two full bathrooms—one featuring a large soaking tub and the other with a shower—giving families and groups the convenience of two separate bathing spaces.
After a long day of hiking, fishing, sightseeing, or exploring Southeast Alaska, you can choose a quick shower or settle in for a relaxing soak in the tub.
An Excellent Wrangell Location
The Byrd House is ideally located for enjoying Wrangell without having to be far from town.
Downtown is approximately a 5-minute walk, putting restaurants, shops, the waterfront, and other downtown destinations within easy reach. Wrangell's local swimming pool and gym are directly across the street, and the hospital is approximately a 15-minute walk from the house.
That combination of space and location makes The Byrd House particularly well suited for traveling medical professionals, traveling professionals, families visiting Wrangell, and guests needing comfortable accommodations for an extended stay.
Water, Mountains & Room to Enjoy Them
The setting is one of the home's best features. From the property, you'll enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the water and mountains that surround Wrangell.
The house also has a large porch and spacious yard with several established fruit trees. Enjoy your morning coffee outside, watch the weather move across the mountains, or simply slow down and appreciate the scenery and fresh Southeast Alaska air.
Make It Your Alaska Home Base
The Byrd House works just as well for a longer stay as it does for a traditional vacation. With three bedrooms, two bathrooms, multiple living areas, a full kitchen, a large yard, and easy access to town, you have the space to actually settle in and feel at home.
Wrangell is also an incredible home base for experiencing Southeast Alaska. Spend your days fishing, hiking, boating, wildlife viewing, exploring the Stikine River and surrounding wilderness, or simply discovering our community—and come back to a spacious, comfortable home at the end of the day.
Whether you're coming to Wrangell for a family vacation, work assignment, extended visit, or an Alaska adventure, The Byrd House offers something a little different from an ordinary rental: a newly remodeled historic home with more than a century of character, plenty of room to settle in, a fantastic location, and some truly beautiful Southeast Alaska views.
