The Altefähr Freight Loft was built in 1936 adjacent to the Altefähr train station, which had been in operation since 1883. It served as a storage and transshipment facility and underwent extensive renovation in 2022. To the extent permitted by historic preservation regulations, the renovation prioritised sustainability and accessibility; the building is equipped with a heat pump and is accessible via its renovated ramp.

The central gathering place in the building is the large living area, which includes a fully equipped kitchen with a dining area. From the living area, you can access the four separate bedrooms, all of which are furnished with double beds (which can also be used as single beds if needed). The three bathrooms are also accessible separately, eliminating the need for any walk-through rooms. The entire interior is heated by a centrally controlled floor heating system.

Thanks to its prime location and preserved industrial design, this freestanding building exudes genuine railway charm. The former loading ramp now serves as a large terrace directly in front of the building. The large paved open areas in front of the building also allow for access by larger vehicles or caravans. The building is located along the Baltic Sea Coastal Bike Path and, despite its seemingly secluded location, is very centrally situated. It is accessible by local public transport—bus and train—and is within walking distance.

Check-in is from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and check-out is from 1:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
