Follow the river by bike along the Römer-Lippe Route. You can gain further insight into Roman life at the fascinating Roman Museum (about 3 km away). The forests surrounding the Haltern reservoirs offer wonderful tours on foot or by bike. Another real hidden gem is the Westruper Heide—a beautiful heathland area near the reservoirs. When the weather is nice, the beer gardens by the lakes and the extremely popular beach resorts with their great sandy beaches beckon. Beautiful bike tours lead through the Hohe Mark Nature Park with its forests and hills or to Lüdinghausen with the imposing Vischering Castle (approx. 21 km). The wild horses in the Merfelder Bruch (approx. 14 km) near Dülmen are a real treat. Industrial heritage sites include the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex (approx. 40 km) in Essen, the Henrichenburg Boat Lift (approx. 22 km), and the Recklinghausen Substation (approx. 24 km). These locations are easily accessible by public transport or by car.
