The idea came to us from our own travels, during which we always booked holiday rentals or holiday homes. We’ve incorporated the positive experiences from all those years into the furnishings and design of our apartment. The first reviews have already given us positive feedback. During your stay, we’re happy to assist you with any questions or needs. You can reach us by phone or in person. We look forward to your stay! The holiday apartment is located in the Priestertum district of the municipality of Mettingen. The municipality is situated in the Tecklenburger Land region (Steinfurt County) in the northern part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Mettingen has been a state-recognized resort since 1992 and is also known as “Tüöttendorf” due to its historical significance for the Tüötten tradition. Tödden, also known as Tüötten or Tiötten, were seasonal itinerant merchants and peddlers from Westphalia and neighbouring regions who sold linen—produced primarily in rural home-based workshops during the winter—the following summer, first in the Netherlands (colloquially known as Holland) and then throughout Northern Europe, from England to Riga. According to one interpretation, the name “Tödden” is said to derive from Dutch and mean “to exchange” or “to trade.” According to another interpretation, the term is said to derive from the Low German “tödden,” meaning “to drag,” “to pull,” or “to trudge along heavily laden.” The analogous names “Tüötten” or “Tiötten” arose from regionally different pronunciations. In 1887, the families of 58 merchants were residing in Mettingen. Mettingen-based Tüötten families such as the Brenninkmeyers, Hettlages, Voßs, Boeckers, Moormanns, ten Brinkens, and Lampes entered the trade and later founded department stores. Stockmann set out northward, towards Helsinki. Finland’s largest department store still bears his name today. For more detailed information, visit the Mettingen municipality’s tourism website. There you’ll find information on recreational activities such as museums, hiking, bike tours, zoos, and much more. Languages spoken: German, English
