Perfect spot to relax

Loved the place from the house to the grounds and especially the lake. We were in town for horse trials and this was perfect for our group. We enjoyed the back patio and the watching everyone fish and paddle boat around the lake, we will be back. The owners were very friendly and accommodating.

Great place and Robert and Lori are great

Everything was great. Played golf 3 days and the near by courses were in great shape for May. Could use an upgrade on the Wifi system. Perfect place to get away and they have everything you will need. Loved it.

The whole family wants to go back!

We had the BEST time at Anderson Ranch. Ten of us went to spend the weekend fishing and relaxing. We caught plenty of fish and really enjoyed spending time together on the patio, in the hot tub, by the fire pit and on the pier. It's a beautiful property and the house has all the amenities you need, including comfortable beds, a huge kitchen and plenty of seating. Everything was clean and well taken care of. The children loved the playground, the cows and especially fishing for Crappie. The 6-year-old caught 15! We made lots of great memories and plan to go back! Thank you for the Texas hospitality!

House was all that was promised and the land was beautiful

Just returned from a long weekend girl's trip to Canton Trade Days. I could not write enough good things about this house and the amazing property. The minute you walk in it feels like home. It was plenty big enough for a group of 7 girls with room to spare. My very favorite part was the large back porch, hot tub and the view of the lake...Great for late night laughs and early morning coffee. The owners were very accomodating and we will be returning! So much fun!

Great girls weekend!

7 girlfriends escaped to Star Lake Retreat for a weekend and had a blast! The owners were fabulous and friendly. We enjoyed the lake and the serenity that the place had to offer. It's nothing fancy...but it was perfect for what we wanted...as weekend away from the chaos, city, jobs, kids, etc. It was a great place to unwind after a full day of shopping in Canton! I would definitely recommend this place for a getaway...and it's perfect for Canton weekend!

Great location!

We had a three generational reunion at this lovely lake house. It accommodated the six of us just fine, with the older ones downstairs, and younger ones in the bedrooms upstairs (quite steep stairs). We had complete privacy in the two bedrooms upstairs, despite the loft style layout. The owner was extremely accommodating with my pre arrival request. We caught lots of fish, enjoyed the beautiful lake view, and although we had (much needed) constant rain, we all had a wonderful time. Only two suggestion: sharp knives or a knife sharpener, and a functioning can opener would be helpful.

Relaxing and quiet fishing spot

The good: super quiet, relaxing, covered patio, hot tub, grill, fire pit, fishing, paddleboat, canoe, volleyball, big TV, comfy couch/beds, big kitchen, plenty of seating, less than a mile off the highway, 10min from the grocery store in Van, 20min to berry picking farm, and 90min from Dallas The not so good: many wasps near fishing dock and children's playground, maid missed cleaning all the dead flies/wasps behind the TV and the hair in the tub/shower drains, check pots/pans for cleanliness before using (black specks = 18 eggs ruined, trip to the store, and a very late breakfast), knives could use sharpening, no paring knives (we bought some and left them), no salt/pepper (we bought some and left them), no cold water on far sink in the hall bath, 3rd & 4th bedrooms are loft-style (less privacy) and open to the living area, stairs to 3rd & 4th bedrooms are pretty steep (not for the elderly) and no bathroom upstairs, Keurig listed in appliance section of rental paperwork but there wasn't one, nowhere to hike/walk around the property without feeling like you are intruding on the owners' space, most of the land is cordoned off for horse/cow pastures Overall, we had a great time and would consider coming back for a weekend again. Thanks, Lori!

Kids loved it!!

Our family of 7 (5 kids) came here for a weekend getaway. Although the weather was a little cold and rainy, we really enjoyed the property. It was very well kept. My kids LOVE to fish, so this place with its own dock and private body of water was ideal. We also loved the hot tub and it felt great in the chilly weather. Thank you, Lori, for sharing your home with us and we hope to be back!

There were 10 woman/friends from all over the US that meet at this perfectly located, perfectly equipped, and perfectly clean house in Lindale. We were there for First Trade Days in Canton, TX. At the end of each day we would eat out in either Van, Lindale or Tyler. (Great or better eating places to choose from outside of Canton.) Then we'd have drinks sitting on the huge and very comfortable sectional with wonderful views as we'd take out all the purchases we made that day to see what everyone bought. After laughing and reminiscing about the day we'd get another drink and then rest our bones in the hot tub. We shopped a total of 3 days and spent the night in the house 4 nights. We had an amazing trip and mostly because of the "perfect" accommodations at the house.

I and my girlfriends (ages 54-75) had a wonderful time staying in this vacation home! Such a beautiful location with a gorgeous morning view. The owner was very nice and accommodating and we appreciated having the chance to stay for a fun girl's trip! We all absolutely loved our stay as well as having the dogs greeting us daily. Truly a location not to be forgotten. Highly recommend to everyone!

Canton family & friends shopping & fishing trip

We walked in to find a lit Christmas tree and an expanse of windows overlooking the lake. The weather was cold, and we kept that fireplace going! Initially, I was a little concerned that having another home so close on the property would not allow us privacy, but I was wrong! The owners are very accommodating and available if needed, but otherwise you never see them. It was perfect. (There was a sweet dog that came to visit us periodically.) We had the most relaxing, cozy long weekend and hope to do it again soon.

A Beautiful Thanksgiving

Our whole family (ages 9 mo. to 50 yrs) Raved about our stay at your lovely Lindale ranch. The home was warm and spacious...the grounds were beautiful and the fishing was excellent. The grandkids loved the paddle boat and eating s'mores by the campfire. One of our best holiday get aways ever! We will be back!! We give it a 10!!

Relaxation with a View!

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Star Lake Retreat, and recommend it heartily. The well-equipped home accommodated two families very comfortably - adults in the two bedrooms downstairs (1 king, 1 queen), five kids aged 9-14 in the two lofts upstairs. The large loft (1 queen, 2 twins) is open along one half-wall to the living areas below. The other loft (1 queen) is open only on one small corner. All of the rooms in the house offer ample lighting, fans, and comfortable furniture. Much of the home has been recently updated. All bathrooms are downstairs; the stairs are somewhat steep. They are completely safe and there is a railing; it's just something to consider based on the age/ability of your group members. The living areas of the home are situated at the back of the house, with walls of huge windows to view the lovely property, lake, and sunrise. The kitchen window offers the sunset view over an adjacent cow/horse pasture. Our trip coincided with the birth of a calf, so we were treated to an exciting look at life on a cattle ranch! The dining room table seated all nine of us comfortably for meals and games, but there are also bar-stools and a kitchen table/chairs for additional seating. There are several seating areas outside on a large covered porch, under huge shade trees, and next to a wonderful lakeside fire-pit. The great outdoors provided the best entertainment, so we didn't leave the property except to buy minnows and ingredients for s'mores. The fishing was fun - lots of bites and we caught a few big enough to fry. There is a swing-set between the houses, and lots of land to explore on walks through the pasture, along the lake, or in the woods. We also enjoyed regular visits with the sweet ranch dogs. The property owner lives next door to this wonderful retreat. In the listing picture, the rental is on the left behind the shade trees, and the owner lives on the right in the house with the pale stone chimney. We were warmly greeted upon arrival, and made to feel like special guests throughout our stay. The ranch is a family enterprise. Each family member we talked with, before and during our stay, was friendly and helpful. We loved our time here, and would gladly return! On our way home from Star Lake, we stopped to eat at The Farmhouse in Van, and can recommend their delicious home-away-from-home cooking.

About the host

Host profile image
Ranch Owner Linda is a wonderful woman with a large family, who just wants her guests to be comfortable and have a great time! Brother, Robert Conn is Linda's manager of the The Anderson Ranch from taking care of the horses to welding corrals and fences. He can also let you in on best places to fish and the best bait to use. They occupy the Main White Rock house on the property. Linda also has Ranch dogs Rocky and Butch, that roam the property and they are friendly, but please don't let them in the house!

Why they chose this property

Best for lady's retreat or families. Just 20 minutes from Canton featuring The Canton Trade days every first weekend of the month. Wild animals are often seen at Star Lake Retreat/. We host wildlife such as our wild hog, white tailed deer, foxes, rabbit, raccoons, beaver, badgers and lots of turtles! You may even spot the Bald Eagle that lives at the Ranch, certain times of the year. We also have many different species of duck and Canadian geese ALL seasons.

What makes this property unique

Fishing is restricted to catch and release on Bass over 15 inches, but Crappie and Catfish no bag limit. Bass under 15 inches have no bag limit. Fish cleaning table on dock with electric and running water. I have personally caught 6 fish over 10lbs in this lake and have released them all. Lighted pier for night fishing. 30 lb Blue cat is very common here! We have a boat ramp and you may bring a small boat if desired.
