About this property
Stunning Cathedral Ceiling Bamboo house on Coffee Farm near Poas Volcano
Bamboo House and additional Cottage on Organic Coffee farm
Enjoy the Bamboo house with stunning panoramic views of Poas volcano and the Central Valley. This is a one of a kind living space designed by the great Costa Rican Bamboo builder, Martin Cato. The hand made bamboo ceiling soars to a glass dome that, at night, focuses the moon beam as it travels across the hand laid hardwood and stone flooring. Natural light illuminates the space from every side for a 360 degree view - see the wondrous multi-colored hummingbirds, butterflies, coffee fields, banana plants and grand colors of the Costa Rican natural surroundings. The house is set in the center of a five acre organic coffee farm. Very private and peaceful. Part of our vision is to live sustainable so the house is solar powered. You can still stay connected via Internet.
We love sitting on the deck late in the afternoon, enjoying beverages, and watching the sun set!
You'll want to hang out all day so we've provided gas stove, fridge and all the cooking utensils. There is a queen bed in the bamboo house and bathroom across the deck. Check out the Virtual Tour in the Photos section!!!
In addition we have an additional cottage adjacent to the house perfect for a second couple or children.
We highly recommend a 4x4 vehicle as we the farm is on a gravel road. The space has a sofa bed and loft as well as a kitchenette and bathroom. The cottage has a patio with view of Banana trees and the mountains. In addition there is a fire pit and garden area connecting the 2 living spaces. You'll love the locally made artisan bbq grill in the backyard.
Take a tour of the property with Jose, our caretaker. He loves people and is always delighted to show you the farm to cup process. Watch him roast a batch of our rich, tasty coffee - you 'll be drinking the fresh roast the next day. It's akin to eating fresh bread right out of the oven!
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We had a lovely, tranquil stay at bambu casita. The house was equipped with everything we needed, and is a really beautiful space. The property is absolutely gorgeous and well maintained. Jose, the on site manager was wonderful and very helpful. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.
We loved staying at the Bamboo Coffee House. It’s a peaceful and beautiful location surrounded by nature. The front porch was lovely as were the two houses for accommodations. Thank you to Jose for welcoming us and making sure everything went well, which it did. Beautiful spot, thank you!!!
A little hard to find but all the places we stayed at were hard for find with the directions and no actual street names. The host was quick with response time once I knew I was lost.
Final stop while visiting Costa Rica. House is very comfortable for a couple, but as 3 that needed separate sleeping accommodations, it was less than ideal. Very remote and private location - beautiful setting - well maintained - was not as bird or wildlife influenced as other places we visited, but wonderful nonetheless. We’d stay here again.

We both really enjoyed our stay at the bamboo house
Astonishing structure in a lovely setting. Coffee plantation setting but with a rainforest background. Humming birds and huge butterflies all day. Jose very helpful and quite a lovely person. Totally relaxing as a place to stay in Costa Rica.
Where to begin?! Alajuela and the surrounding areas are truly amazing. Little did we know the mountains, curving roads and small villages we drove through to get here was just the beginning to an amazing experience. We couldn’t have timed our stay better as Jose was just harvesting the coffee beans and with Jose’s guidance we learned so much. The coffee house was amazing with its architecture and surroundings. We truly felt like we experienced a true Costa Rican life style. We highly recommend it to anyone looking to experience it all!!

Wonderful spot to travel from to see the area.
The building & gounds were well care for. The kitchen was adequate for our needs. The washer was excellent. The only thing we did care for was the short drive to Rio Coyote. We master it by driving slowly & never hitting the gas. We agreed by Jose & was very help.

Lovely accommodations, wonderful host, quiet and secluded
Super cute place with an amazing view! The Bamboo House was very clean and cozy and the grounds were well kept. As coffee drinkers, we were excited to see a working, organic coffee farm and we weren't disappointed. We enjoyed the tour of the farm given by Jose Luis (the other review did not overstate... he is AWESOME) and the coffee was delicious!
We can't say enough good things about our stay ~ it was so enjoyable. We would definitely recommend staying here if you are planning a vacation to Costa Rica.
We felt relaxed the moment we arrived at the casita. The wrap around deck was very inviting with the rocking chairs where we enjoyed our morning coffee, and an evening glass of wine.
Jose, the caretaker of the coffee farm kindly gave us some fresh roasted coffee beans when we arrived, and later in the week gave us a farm tour. The castita was well stocked with all the essentials, and we enjoyed the use of the barbecue, and the firepit. Thanks for a lovely week at your little slice of paradise.
grief has a way of short-circuiting your entire system. I came here needing a reset—and the house gave me that, and so much more. coming from a big city, the stillness was a shock but I welcomed it. I let myself sit with the emotions. when it rained, it poured, and sitting on the balcony with tea as it fell was cathartic. I woke up to birds. took nature walks. drank Jose’s coffee. cooked chayote. i began to understand what it means to live a fulfilled life and to not be afraid of wanting that. I’m so grateful for the two-week stay and everything it gave me
Very peaceful and relaxing. Beautiful with a wonderful sleep on comfortable bed.
Jose the manager was fabulous.
The only reason for a 4 star was it was difficult to get the hot water in the shower adjusted. I guess it needs a new knob.
Also, which no fault of owner, the road is very rough getting to their drive. You do need a 4 wheel drive.

Absolutely wonderful experience
I stayed at this property with my husband, my 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter and we had an amazing time. The owner ensured that Jose was available upon our arrival to help guide us to the property in case we had any trouble finding it since we arrived well after dark. The provided directions as well as the GPS location that she provided proved to be enough and we arrived without issue. Jose was ready for us and gave us a quick tour of the facilities. There is a book in the bamboo house that also guides you through the property as well as provides recommendations on sights and restaurants in the area. We did visit a few of the recommended sights and restaurants and were not disappointed (Poas Volcano, Los Chorros Waterfalls, Grecia, the local soda (Bomba I believe, which was the best in all of our other soda visits across the country).
Since there were four of us two of us slept in the bamboo house and two in the lofted apartment. Both are equipped with all the basic necessities and then some. The bamboo house is such an amazing building with beautiful views of the coffee farm and such a gorgeous design. We made full use of the kitchen and were happy to find it stocked with some basic necessities such as oil, spices, and a wide variety of cooking utensils. I cannot come up with adequate words to describe how serene the property is.
We coordinated a time for a quick tour of the farm with Jose and were delighted with the experience. It was very interesting to learn about the coffee process as well to pick various fruits from the trees on the farm. Jose is an excellent host and guide; polite and helpful. We didn't have a need to further use his services but it was nice knowing he was available if needed and he did check in with us once or twice after.
We stayed for three nights and were very sad to leave but we left feeling more at peace than when we arrived. If I make it back to Costa Rica I will definitely stay here again.
I would highly recommend this property to anyone interested in visiting Costa Rica.
We had such a wonderful stay. This was our first time in Costa Rica and the owner as well as the property caretaker were very helpful before and during the stay helping us prepare and navigate our trip. The area is beautiful and there are a couple of small towns nearby to get groceries, souvenirs and to eat out. The coffee from the farm was delicious. I highly recommend renting a car with 4 wheel drive to handle the ups & downs of the road. We will definitely be back.
Fantastic experience. Just perfect. The property, as stated, sits on a coffee farm, and is surrounded on all sides by lush vegetation. I kept thinking it really was as close to paradise as I'll ever see. Kim and Michael were excellent hosts, very prompt with communication, and understanding when I experienced some major travel delays. Jose, the caretaker, was also incredibly helpful, knowledgable, and friendly. The property had everything we needed to prepare meals, make coffee, and keep some groceries refrigerated. Staying in this VRBO, I felt I was as close to nature as I could possibly be, while still enjoying the security and convenience that any mass-produced dwelling would have. A big plus for me is that the construction and overall design were all sustainable. The solar power and on-demand hot water never left us wanting for anything, and we weren't misers with either. The neighborhoods and towns surrounding the property were all a very quick drive, or walkable. We found everything we needed at local markets and restaurants/sodas. During our stay, we went to Jaco, for a day of "jungle adventures," stayed there that night, and hit the beach the next day. It was a reasonable drive, and that was also a great time, but though we stayed in a cute little "boutique" hotel, we both found ourselves wishing we were "back on the farm." If you're on the fence, book this one. It was a dream come true. Thanks again for sharing this property with us.
