Discover the perfect lakeside getaway just an hour from both Chicago and Milwaukee. Nestled on scenic Lake Shangrila, our fully equipped home sleeps up to 12 guests and combines comfort, convenience, and fun. Enjoy direct lake access with a private pier, hot tub, firepit, and plenty of space indoors and out to relax or entertain. With year-round attractions nearby, it’s the ideal retreat for families, friends, and remote workers alike.

The home offers multiple picturesque views of the water and a patio complete with a hot tub, firepit, outdoor dining, and a Blackstone grill. You'll be just steps from the lake, with a private pier for fishing and a small beach for easy water access. Guests also have access to 3 kayaks and a paddleboard, and for an additional cost, you can rent the pontoon.

Inside, the home features a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and extras like a coffee maker, blender, toaster, and air fryer. There are 4 bedrooms (2 kings, 3 queens, and 2 twins) and 2 full bathrooms, plus central AC/heat, ceiling fans, and an electronic fireplace. A washer and dryer are also provided for your convenience. Each room includes a smart TV with access to popular streaming services, and you can enjoy music throughout the home with our Sonos sound system.

The home offers 1 Gig fiber Internet with symmetrical upload and download speeds, making it ideal for remote work. There are 3 desks with dedicated workspaces for up to 4 people, in addition to the dining room table.

For indoor entertainment, the garage has been converted into a versatile game room with a TV, ping-pong table, darts board, mini basketball hoop, bags, and other games. We also provide board games and puzzles for all ages.

The driveway has an incline, but it easily accommodates parking for up to six cars.

We had 9 family members who came from 3 different states. We enjoyed the beautiful view and the access to the kayaks, paddle boards, and the pontoon boat. The house is well stocked with all of the essentials one would need to cook meals at home. Our host was very responsive and ensured we had a wonderful stay.

Beautiful views.

We stayed for four nights with family and soon to be in-laws. Had a great time, everyone loved the rental, the backyard and the pontoon we rented for a relaxing day on the water.The kitchen had nice quantities of plates, silverware and glasses. Will was a great host and immediately answered my text looking for info. Would highly recommend!

Wilmont Ski Weekend

We had a great time at this property! It was clean and comfy with great views. Located about 15 mins from Wilmont was great for our family and friends to use the hot tub and recuperate after a long day of skiing! The host is very communicative and thoughtful.

Great property!!!

Great Lake house with tons of amenities. Sonos speakers though out the house, fire pit, hot tub, black stone grill and multiple kayaks. We rented the pontoon as well which was amazing to have. Will was super responsive both before and during our stay. Would highly recommend staying here.

Family Vacation

The property felt like being home, very relaxing and we felt most welcomed by the owner. We all had a great time using the pontoon boat for cruising, fishing, and swimming at the sand bar. Everyone wants to know when we are going to go again. 😊

Family Fun

The property was wonderful and had everything we needed. It has been a hot summer and unfortunately the lake was green with algae with lots of dead fish. Something the owner has no control over.

Skiing Getaway!

We had a wonderful time! The place was great and just as described! While the temperatures dipped down into the negative numbers, we had the best time on the nearby slopes and enjoyed the hot tub, heated garage, fireplace, and black-stone. The house had everything we needed. We cooked all our meals for the weekend there and the kitchen was well stocked. Thank you for helping us make wonderful memories with family and friends!!

Wonderful lake getaway!

A large group of us went here for a girls' weekend before a wedding, and we had a fantastic time. The lake is great for swimming, and the property is beautiful with a firepit we used for s'mores. The house was set up really nicely for big groups, with plenty of seating inside where we could all be together chatting and hanging out, and a big table on the patio where we all fit to eat meals outdoors. There were plenty of comfy beds with fantastic mattresses and comforters so we all slept great! Will was very flexible and responsive to messages and let us have a late checkout since no one was coming in after us, which made our last day so much easier and more pleasant. We loved our time at Lake Shangri-La and would love to come back!

I truly recommend this place for families who want to spend a relaxing time. We had a great time at the lake house! The small community around is so quiet. Kayaking and swimming was fun ! The stores aren't too far by car, the house is well equipped for bbq and preparing meals. We were 11 people but didn't feel that it. They were a lot of spaces in the family room and outside to relax and enjoy a good time for our 3 families. Inside table is for 6 though, not for 12 people. Dinner time could have been tricky if everyone wanted to seat around the table. We had the teens having dinner before the adults and it went well. The bedrooms are great, beds are comfortable. We definitely enjoyed our stay!

Amazing week!

This place was fabulous!! We immediately felt at home in Will’s clean, comfortable, well-stocked house with the great deck and lovely lake view. We rented the pontoon and enjoyed fishing and boating. We also used Will’s kayaks, paddle board and huge floating mat (“Lily pad”) a lot. The new, sturdy stairs into the water were a huge bonus- many lake places don’t have that. My 86 year old mom and my young grandson could get into the water easily! There’s a nice ping-ping table, firepit, firewood, and a cozy hot tub. Communication from start to finish was excellent!! Will was VERY responsive and helpful. The location was super, because my daughter and son-in-law could easily zip back to their home/work in Chicago as needed, and my son was able to fly in from Florida and it was a short trip from O’Hare. The lake was very close to grocery stores and convenient to go see the impressive water ski show in Twin Lakes and go to bars/restaurants on nearby Fox Lake and Lake Marie. Antioch is a cute town as well. I highly recommend Will’s awesome house on Lake Shangrila!!

STAY AWAY!

STAY AWAY!! The owner is as uncooperative and unethical as they come. Once we were told that the owner Will intended to keep our entire security deposit ($$$$$) for a completely accidental car oil leak on their (EXTREMELY STEEP) driveway, we requested he provide us with documentation for the attempted cleaning. He ultimately refused to provide us ANY detail: he would not tell us how he attempted to clean it (which makes me wonder how hard he tried to clean it, if at all) or how much it cost him (which makes me think he spent very little money on an oil cleaner from Home Depot). He refused saying only that the oil stain would not come out and that he was keeping the security deposit for the “inconvenience.” I even went so far as to try to schedule a professional cleaning company to come out to his property to try to get the stain out as long as he paid for the service out of the security deposit. He just went radio silent. The real kicker though is that we purchased the VRBO insurance which would reimburse us for the full amount if he were to provide them with an invoice. The insurance company has reached out to him asking for an invoice but he refuses to do so (likely because he did not spend any significant money actually trying to remove the stain and has no justification for keeping the large security deposit). Two months later we are still trying to work with the insurance company but until Will agrees to cooperate, we continue to be out the full security deposit. He can keep the deposit, just provide the insurance company with an invoice! This whole interaction has completely soured the experience we had at his lakehouse which has also seen better days: - The pontoon boat clearly had not been cleaned before our use with SUBSTANTIAL green algea growing on the deck which we had to clean ourselves. It also had less than a 1/4 of gas in it which prevented us from using it as much as we’d like - The poor kiddos got bitten up by bugs from sleeping in the "kids room" -The outside grill was filthy; it had not been cleaned for a long time - The pier had some loose/rotting boards - whole sections of the yard were overgrown with weeds -and there were also other misc issues (e.g.; the fridge had door shelves that kept falling off; unknown to us almost all of the clean bath towels were in the dryer which we only discovered when we were leaving, etc.) We've rented many lakehouses and have NEVER encountered an owner like this. Not worth the hassle

I was very saddened to receive this unfair and completely uncharacteristic review. Especially as I tried so hard to work with their party even though they showed such little respect for our home and took so little care of the property and the boat that I included in the rental. Hopefully it is apparent that this review is completely out of place with all my other reviews which are mostly 5 star and which talk about the cleanliness of the property, the quality of our communication and the joyful times that our guests have at peaceful Lake Shangrila. Many guests so enjoyed their stay that they have returned on multiple occasions. The facts are that this guest drove away without informing us about the damage that they had done to the driveway. Nor had they made any attempt to cure the issue. Had we known, we could have responded faster and cleanup would have been more effective. After considerable unsatisfactory communication about the matter, we took it upon ourselves to make good on the clean up and returned 100% of the guests deposit. All guests may be assured that we make every effort to make the experience enjoyable. In addition; we communicate in a timely fashion, address any issues that arise and make the guests stay a priority before, during and after their visit.

Wonderful Lakehouse

We stayed both last year and this year at this wonderful place. Will is so easy to talk to which made the arrangements so easy. The place is was very clean when we arrive and everything works. The pontoon boat is well maintained and added to the fun of our trip. We absolutely recommend staying here.

Great house on the lake

This was a great place to rent for our group. More than enough room for two families. Had everything we could want to entertain 5 kiddos (including the pontoon rental). Will was quick to reply and even available in short notice while we were there. Would recommend!

I also travel extensively so the house is usually available to rent but it is a home too so expect a mix of clean, tidy and homely. If in a different timezone, I may be slower to respond. Why they chose this property

Our neighborhood is beautiful and wrapped around the lake. Also full of great and friendly neighbors that care about the lake and our environment. Having a lake house retreat less than an hour from O'Hare airport is wonderful for families and memories are made here.

What makes this property unique

Property has beautiful panoramic views of the lake and direct lake access with a small beach and 2 piers, 1 of which can be used by your guest boat. Enjoy the hot tub, Blackstone grill, yard games all lakeside and depending on weather we have ping pong and hangout in the agrage with its own TV.

Also unique is our large inclined driveway with parking for up to 6 cars.

Located 15 miles from attractions such as Gurnee Mall, Six Flags Great America and Keylime Cove. Lipizzan Horse shows and Twin Lakes Waterski shows are featured twice per week nearby. In addition the Bristol Renaissance Fair occurs every weekend from Memorial Day through Labor Day just 10 minutes away.
