Very nice house. Owner was very attentive and made sure his guests were happy..
Beautiful house with a great view of the lake. We had a great time!
Amazing location million dollar view never felt safer
Host was a true professional and made every effort to help us out my family and I would definitely recommend this property perfect for a family or large group
Great property with an awesome pool area. My family really enjoyed staying at this property. Great location to view the community firework show from the backyard. Enjoyed close golf, and easy trips to San Diego Zoo and Huntington Beach. Would recommend this property and plan to stay again due to close proximity of California relatives. Thanks John
Whenever I want to go have some lake, pool, hot tub time, I come here. Its always a fun, peaceful, and a rejuvenating get away for us. I recently took my little girl, her friend and my other friends to this house and our experience always exceeds expectations. The home easily slept ten or more of us and had all of the comforts of modern day living. The large kitchen always lets me cook for an army of my guests. The outdoor patio and grill area was large and enjoyable for our meals where we sat outside for hours and enjoyed the amazing lake views and great weather. The nighttime starlit sky was wonderful and the pool and hot tub were so fun for kids and our grown up time. The owner was responsive, service oriented and made sure that all of our needs were met.
It was a family reunion and birthday party. The house was clean. They have enough towels and blankets. Toilet paper. The pool and jacuzzi worked perfectly. They sent us instructions for use on time. In general, it is very good. The property is just what it offers. The beds are very comfortable. , excellent place, don't hesitate to rent. spectacular view 👌
This was a very comfortable home. The hot tub and pool were very nice. Our daughter appreciated having her own space downstairs. We had a great time cooking together in the spacious kitchen. We could tell that this owner cares about the property and is really diligent in making sure his guests are comfortable. My only slight complaint is that the couches need new foam. They were really squishy and not firm, making it hard to get up from the couch. Would stay there again, but we'll probably just buy a house in the area. Loved Canyon Lake!!!

Pictures are deceiving
Although the view is pretty and the pool is nice, this place needs some serious TLC. There wasn't any effort put in to presentation. There was trash on the side yard, there were hoses left out all over the place not even wrapped up. The patio looked like they started cleaning it, but left half way through as the chairs were all pulled out haphazardly away from the table and there was a broom and a mop left in the middle of the patio. The dishes in the drawers and cabinets were dirty with food still on them and the wall in next to the washer and dryer was disgusting. It didn't look like it had been wiped down since the place was built. My niece said "the place just gave her the creeps"... with a little effort this place could be presentable.

To anyone reading this, I took all of these pictures myself and over many years. Also, everything goes into the presentation. I update this property all of the time, nearly every time I go which is several times per month.
Below is a highlight of all of the recent updates to the property and an attempt at most recent to further back in dates:
In terms of the kitchen appliances: A new fridge was placed in the property in November 2022, dishwasher is new and replaced as of August 2020:

This review appears to only highlight negative items which is very unfortunate for a proactive owner like me. This is because for some renters no matter how much capital and upgrades are put into a home is there will always be items which people observe and pass negative judgment on.

Needs some TLC and a deep clean.
House is in the prestigious gated community of Canyon Lake. The host is very communicative. However, there are several issues with the property. Although the homeowner has made updates to the property. There are still several items in the house that need to be addressed. First, the outside furniture is completely falling apart. Nails sticking out of arm rest, upper level furniture coming unraveled and not mention the upper deck is completely falling apart. There was trash all over the upper deck..photo documentation was taken. The interior doors going that lead out to the back and front yard are flithy..once again we have photo documentation, there was a condensation leak leading into the downstairs bedroom. The carpet was saturated with water and smelled very musty..photo and video documentation noted, the beds were rock hard, the drawers in the kitchen were dirty..photo documentation noted, there was a wine holder that was completely covered in dust and dirty used towels hanging on the back of the bedroom door from the previous guest. The last evening of our stay we were unable to use the kitchen lights or the backyard because during our stay there was a bee infestation. Bees were coming in thru the kitchen light. The owner was responsive and sent out his handyman to spray the bees with wasp spray and add some caulking. He was finally able to have an actual “bee” person come out and spray the bees on the last day. Highly disappointed overall!
First of all I definitely want to say John was super responsive and a good communicator. Pool was fabulous and once I got the rhythm of heating hot tub and to then overflow and warm the pool a little my kids were in heaven. The views are spectacular and we enjoyed the firework show on the 4th a ton.
Sadly I was a little underwhelmed by the interior of the home. The rooms and living areas are functional and adequate. The kitchen has a nice fridge as John has mentioned a number of times that he bought a couple years ago in previous replies. Inside Couches are super comfy and outdoor furniture is adequate for sure.
However the beds, bedding, and just overall feeling is that the house hasn’t had a refresh in way too long. I’m not saying it was necessarily unfair for the price range it just could be so much better.
Now I go back and look and many of the reviews about how great the home is and a good portion are from a number of years ago. Yes there are some recent excellent 5 star reviews but honestly I can’t do the same. Things just break down over time and need to be replaced.
A good example is the bedding. It is fine and we weren’t roughing it or anything but for this price range newer sheets and blankets that aren’t just laying on the floor in the closet collecting dust in between guests is a reasonable expectation.
I have two vrbo rentals both in nice higher end vacation spots in another state and we are very concerned about the beds and bedding and just general cleanliness of the house. Maybe that is just our preference but this is my only feedback for John. A little bit of updating could go a long way with this home...super locations and views lose their awesomeness when you don’t take care of the inside of the home too. There are several reviews that give you the same feedback but it appears that nothing has been done about it other than fridge and dishwasher. Carpet, paint, electrical outlets, beds and bedding, have all been mentioned years ago and I was hoping that would have been addressed.
Other than that...great place and we were able to enjoy both San Diego and LA activities.

Hello Kelly and group and thank you for all of the detailed feedback and certainly your recent stay!,It sounds like you all had a good experience for the most part. Take note that whenever possible we mostly do many weeks to a few months rentals at this property. It appears that you made a point to highlight certain items that caught your attention which were not in a positive light. It seems that no matter how grand any home is there will always be items which people observe and pass negative judgment on. While you all have clearly highlighted negative items there were many high expense items upgraded literally days prior to your arrival. In addition, my girlfriend and I made special efforts to create a warm and cheerful July 4th vibe with American flags and other US themed goodies everywhere since your group rented the property for the July 4th holiday and fireworks. It is important and relevant to note that you have the best view in the community for the fireworks. These items were redoing the kitchen cabinets, a major overhaul to the whole yard where the pool is(500 square feet of turf + update to all plants and Palm trees), overhaul to the yard by the driveway(change to a DG((decomposed granite)) surface), outdoor furniture additions of chaise lounge, 4 new chairs, 1 new glass table, repainting of 4 outdoor chairs and 2 loveseats, and finally we redid the entire ducting for the interior of the home.

With respect to your comments on the bedrooms, we actually did a significant upgrade to several bedrooms in March 2019. Two upstairs guest bedrooms received 2 new bed frames and each with a new mattress, a queen and a king. Light furniture additions were also made to all of the bedrooms at this time. Each bedroom bed has 4 white linens, so there are 3 sets of extra white linens per main room bed. This excludes any air mattress or futon bedding, but, this was higher end linens acquired for the main beds. We acquire new linens for the property each 12 months.
"I have two vrbo rentals both in nice higher end vacation spots in another state and we are very concerned about the beds and bedding". This is great and congratulations! You may know that having an additional property requires alot of work and comes with major expenses, so much that they can be overwhelming. This also sounds like you are quite wealthy, congratulations again. However, it is not like everyone can afford higher end on everything inside of a second home. Outside of the major upgrades done just prior to your stay there were also significant repairs for several appliances in the home. These expenses can go on and on, but, this property is its own little resort and is well maintained and well run.
Take note also that prior to your stay and going back to the beginning of 2016 $1000+ fridge, $1200 dishwasher, $500 outdoor lounge/deep bench, outdoor Adirondack style furniture, Z Gallerie designer couches, designer coffee table, designer futon, repainting of all rooms not including kitchen and family area, and a new TV and entertainment system were installed in the house. People from all over the world come back to this lake property all through the year and love it. Last winter a multi millionaire family stayed for 2 months and absolutely loved the property, continually referred to it as "beautiful" and left us a 5 star review.
John was easy to work with and our stay was very comfortable. Great location home with nice amenities and beautiful daily sunsets. Will definitely come back.
The views are wonderful. The pool and slide were so much fun, even for adults. The house is located within an hour of San Diego and LA (outside of rush hour traffic).
John was easy to work with and was responsive.
The house could use a thorough cleaning throughout, but all and all we enjoyed our stay in Canyon Lake.
Everything was good. Only comment/suggestion is need more than one Television. :-) Overall this is a great house for family. It's was a home away from my home!

Weekend Getaway
Nice property for the cost. House could use some maintenance and a good cleaning. The stairs to the pool are steep. The view of the lake is amazing.
We stayed at this awesome house for almost a week before the kids headed back to school. It was a perfect change of pace. The kids had lots of fun in the pool - especially with the pool lights on after dark. The hot tub got a little more use by the adults.
House is just a short walk to the lake and we got to swim there and take advantage of some lake activities as well. Bring a paddle board or kayak if you can. Bring a couple of fishing rods too. We had an early morning fishing excursion but sadly saw more fish jumping than taking our bait.
The house is really big. Lots of beds and bathrooms - bunks for the kids and suites for the adults. AC worked like a charm, and they had a new Nest thermostat so no guessing. The owner also mentioned the house runs on 100% solar - so if clean energy is important to you, yet another reason to pick this spot.
We'll be back next year for sure - if not sooner.
We loved staying at John's Canyon Lake House. The house has a large open living space and amazing backyard (with west-facing views of the lake and sunset). We enjoyed exploring the beaches surrounding the lake and spending afternoons in the pool (note: VERY steep stairs leading down to pool). The house could use a bit of maintenance. We'd definitely recommend visiting! A perfect getaway from San Diego!
this is a great place but requires a little more maintenance than it gets.
Most of the kitchen appliances doesn't work or malfunction. Issues with water valves in showers. One bed fell apart and sound system in the living room doesn't work. Ceiling fans make clicking sounds and shake at higher speeds so don't sit under. Stairs and hand rails that go down to the pool are a real hazard for children and slightly drunk people.

This review is surprising and saddening to see because I provided what I thought was superior service to this group. There were odd things that popped up nearly every day which was very unusual (internet issue, neighbor propane odor issue and otherwise uncontrollable events).
The biggest problem and concern with this review is that it is entirely factually incorrect in terms of the kitchen appliances. The refrigerator is a Kitchenaid fridge which is only a few years old and I took out and replaced the dishwasher 3 times since the middle of July. I first purchased a new dishwasher in July and then this dishwasher failed, I then put back in the old dishwasher (Kitchenaid) which started to work again. I did not inform this group of all of the appliance work on the dishwasher and they did not inform me of what day the dishwasher stopped working. I actually replaced the original dishwasher on August 8 2020. Proof of purchase of these dishwashers are below:

With respect to these comments on the handrail - this is a custom built stairway from the deck off of the kitchen which goes down to the pool. The property is on a steep hill (this is also why the view is WORLD CLASS) so some stairs are steep. Any concerns on these stairs or the hand rail can be alleviated by using the alternate stairway. I use the alternate stairway all the time at the property - it is located by walking along the south exterior of the property and they are concrete stairs which are not steep and no hand rail is needed.
With respect to the comments on the bed, a thorough inspection on 8/15/2020 (the day of checkout) shows 1 wooden plank which came undone from the hollywood iron frame. This bed has the whole bottom with planks where it is almost a sheet of plywood protecting the box spring, these planks are 1" thick and 4 - 5" wide.
We also did significant upgrades to several bedrooms during 2019. There are 3 new bed frames and each with a new mattress, 2 queen and 1 king. In addition to all of these upgrades listed solar power equipment was installed on the property during 2018. Solar power is a large expense, approximately $35,000.

6 Stars! Great home, amazing location, awesome views
Such a great experience! A group of 8 of us stayed for 3 nights in John's AMAZING Canyon Lake Home! The location & home is a hidden gem that I 100% recommend. The house is well appointed and the amenities are great and John (the owner) is super helpful & responsive. There is plenty of room for a group to spread out, but also tons of great little areas to sit & feel at home. Note that the house is within a private community, so I recommend stocking up at the grocery store and getting all your essentials at once before you enter since the security line to get back in can get a little long, but besides that you feel super safe because security is tight. The pool / water slide and BBQ are great features (we spent most of our time outdoor) and the views from the deck are unbeatable! All the rooms & bathrooms were super clean & comfortable - I do recommend getting a few extra essentials like toilet paper, paper towels and laundry detergent (the house comes with it, but if you have a larger group, you might run out). It was a perfect staycation for our group, and have zero complaints and we will definitely be back! Thanks John for being a great host, we had a really fun time and you place is seriously amazing!
This home is in an amazing place with an amazing view. The pool and Jacuzzi put the icing on the cake. There were some minor dings at the home that are incredibly insignificant in comparison to how amazing everything is. I would recommend this home 10/10.

Picturesque Oasis Get-Away just outside of LA
We stayed here end of summer 2017 along with other friends and our experience was good and fun for the soul. The home comfortably slept over ten people and we used the spa and pool for hours almost every night. The nighttime starry sky and bright moon were stunning. We all had alot of fun making food and drinks and cutting up in the kitchen and upper deck during the evening, it all felt like one room even though the deck is outside. The owner was responsive and provided very detailed instructions on the property and pool. The property isn't exactly recently remodeled, but, it had a unique lake house charm and felt big. The location was convenient as its in between Disneyland and San Diego.

Really disappointed
My group reserved this house for a week in June. The pool heater was broken, the A/C let the house get up to 85 degrees, two ceiling fans were very unstable, there were multiple holes throughout the house, some electrical outlets did not work, the outdoor deck had loose boards and screws sticking out, and the outdoor staircase railing was detached.
I will say that the owner was pretty responsive in trying to fix the issues. But he scheduled a next-day service appointment for the A/C problem, meaning that we would have had to suffer through the 85 degree indoor temperature for the rest of the day. It was only after I told him that we had a baby in our group and that we were bailing on the house, that he offered to get an emergency service appointment.

Olivia and group and anyone reading - This property is also business and this review is a play to achieve a financial settlement and refund from the recent stay. Most guests have a spectacular time at this property which is not a 1 star property, but, a 2400 square foot home on a 13,700 square foot lot with a private pool, spa, slide and large deck with a globally unmatched view.
I am in shock of the comments and contents of this review because the very item you bring up is the item specifically addressed during your stay. There is a nest thermostat at the property which I was not that familiar with operating as your group was the first heat wave of the summer as it was early June. The content and receipt of their visit is here:
Paid On 6/13/2018 $69.00 | Upon arrival performed ac dx on unit. Checked refrigeration levels in okay shape. Got temp split inside of the home higher than 18 degrees in every room. System is operating correctly. System was reset tested and fully operational upon departure. Additionally and most significantly early June it is still quite chilly at night and even drops below 60 degrees. The photos I sent you of the thermostat clearly indicated that the house did not reach 85 degrees, but, stayed in the 76-78 temperature the whole time. The system was functioning properly and fully operational I just didn't fully know the proper setting to use during a day where outside temp reach mid to high 90s.
The deck off of the kitchen was fixed during November 2017 and again in early 2018 and on July 12. This property is a rental and there are several crews that address it, there is a pool crew, a landscaper crew, cleaning staff, handymen, AC Heating and plumbing crew, and contractors. They all address the property when there is an issue. We spent extensively on your reservation - service call charge for heater $145, emergency service extra $150. The property has many fans and guests enjoy these fans, there are many multi million dollar homes with no fans at all.
Prior to your stay $1000+ fridge, $1200 dishwasher, $500 outdoor lounge/deep bench, outdoor Adirondack style furniture, Z Gallerie designer couches, designer coffee table, designer futon, repainting of all rooms not including kitchen and family area, and a new TV and entertainment system were installed in the house. Last winter a multi millionaire family stayed for 2 months and absolutely loved the property, continually rreferred to it as "beautiful" and left us a 5 star review.
About the host

I am and have been an entrepreneur since the age of 17. I currently own and operate a diversified internet marketing business and a diversified real estate business and enjoy a flexible schedule. I enjoy 'slow mondays' on the lake getting some great waterskiing and wakeboarding time in. Getting away to the Lake House with friends, family and loved ones is one of my favorite recreations during the warmer months. The Pool, hot tub, slide, outdoor eating and conversation areas foster an environment to create lasting memories.
Why they chose this property
I chose Canyon Lake because when I drove through the gates and crossed over the lake I knew immediately it was the perfect little community for me. Growing up with a water lifestyle near the Chesapeke Bay in Maryland, I yearned for a way to go boating and do watersports in Southern California. Watersports is one of my greatest passions in life and the calm waters of Canyon Lake is a waterskiers dream. The warm climate and scenic beauty add an unforgettable element to your experience in Canyon Lake. My property has one of the greatest views in the largest private community in the US(Canyon Lake) and during the warmer months it is an outdoor recreational paradise.
What makes this property unique
While staying at the Lake House you will enjoy one of the greatest views anywhere. The property is set high on the hill and you can capitalize on enjoying 360 degree mountain views and unforgettable views of the lake, mountains and the sunset. There are also 2 outdoor firepits by the Pool so you can lounge by a warm fire next to the pool at night. The outdoor grill, kitchen and eating area is also a great place to enjoy a dinner with friends and/or family. During the warmer months(May - October), the property truly is an outdoor recreational paradise.
