Across the lane from the beach in Playa Grande’s luxurious Palm Beach Estates, this three bedroom home and casita is nestled on a large landscaped lot with a pool in front and the nature reserve at the back. There is a rooftop covered treehouse patio above the garage. If you are lucky, you'll see Howler monkeys from there or as you return from taking in the sunset on the secluded beach - and several of Guanacaste’s finest restaurants and up-scale bars are only blocks away.

The main house has 3 bedrooms and 3 full baths, as well as a semi-attached casita with complete bedroom/bath. Bedrooms come with the following sleeping arrangements:

Master Bedroom: King bed - master bedroom with ensuite bathroom (also has entrance from hallway)

Secondary Bedroom: Queen bed - ensuite indoor / outdoor bathroom

Third Bedroom: Queen bed & single built in bunk bed

Semi-detached Suite - queen bed & day bed with ensuite small bathroom

NEWLY renovated kitchen is fully stocked with appliances, including large double door fridge, dishwasher, oven/stove, microwave, blender, coffee maker and all of the basics to cook.

A/C units in all indoor living areas of the house.

The spacious tiled and fully screened front patio has double ceiling fans and a large built-in gas grill. Other amenities include laundry room, and a second story terrace with hammocks and sitting area. Everything you need! Comfortably sleeps eight (with beds for up to eleven).

Casa Kalumina has some safety features to keep the house locked up tightly, including a roll down metal screen. We recommend keeping this down when leaving the property and at night.

Did we forget to mention how close we are to the beach? We are located between the estuary and the beach, and it is a block walk to the beach entrance. It is actually across the street but due to other developments, you have to walk down about 100 meters and you are at the access. There is even a water taxi service to Tamarindo from Central America’s largest mangrove estuary three hundred yards away. Kalumina…the perfect place to stay!

Beautiful property that was perfect for our stay. It’s an easy walk to the beach or restaurant. The sunset views, awesome waves, animals/birds, fruits will be bringing us back soon. The beds were comfortable, A/C was cold, full kitchen, and grill made it easy to prepare meals during our visit. The outdoor shower was great to wash off the excess sand and screened in patio were a definite plus.

Playa Grande

House was perfect for our group. Three wonderful restaurants within walking distance. Beach was perfect. The only reason I did not give 5 stars in everything was because of access road. I was expecting bad….but it was horrible.We had a great time!

Family Vacation

We had a great time staying at Casa Lumina in Palm Beach Estate at Playa Grande!Great communication with Shawna the property manager who arranged our airport transfers and local rental car too.Short walk to the beach access, water taxi to Tamarindo, local restaurants are all highlights of staying here. The property pool is refreshing and the grounds are well maintained. We enjoyed the screened porch, and the kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. One of our best visits ever to Playa Grande!

Our stay at Casa Kalumina with our children and grandchild was wonderful. The environment was very comfortable and the kitchen had everything needed to cook, including some spices. Our hosts were very responsive with any issue and suggestions. The large screened porch with a grill and large table for eating was an essential bonus for us as we spent much of our time there. The pool was perfect at the end of the day and the grounds are beautiful and well kept.The beach was a quick 5 minute walk and chairs were provided at the casa. We ate often at Cafe Mar Azul, a small outdoor restaurant with great food and a childrens menu and play area. We would highly recommend this property.

Family Trip

This home is in a very quiet neighborhood with a 4 minute walk to the beach. We enjoyed watching the surfers on the water. Owners are super sweet and available if needed. I would definitely come back to this home.

Lovely beach escape

Wonderful stay at this lovely property. It’s a short walk from the beach and has several food options/restaurants within walking distance as well. Several options to rent beach gear (including surfboards) also within walking distance. Shawna was exceptionally responsive, and she helped us book a wonderful horseback ride on another local beach. The pool was a nice break from the beach, and there was a lot of room for hanging out and relaxing at the end of the day. If you’re looking for a nice beach trip, this is a great choice to experience the Pura Vida culture of Costa Rica.

Christmas Vacation

We loved our stay at this amazing property - it was so spacious for our 2 families of 4. The outdoor eating area, rooftop patio and pool were our favorite places to hang out. And location to the beach and restaurants was unbeatable!

Great Spot for families

We stayed here with friends and family ages ranging from 2-14 and loved our time here. The screened in outdoor patio was great and there was a nice large table and grill. The pool was a bit smaller than what we thought, but was still enjoyed. The beach was walking distance and the sunsets are UNBELEIVABLE. We loved our stay here!

Great amount of space for two families! Property manager was super helpful and answered every question and set us up with transportation and excursions. Beach was super close and the pool was delightful to retreat back to. Several nice restaurants nearby and a small minimart with essentials. We had a wonderful stay!

Peaceful Oasis On The Beach

Loved the place! Loved the Neighborhood! Loved the Beach! This was a wonderful quiet little spot just steps from gorgeous Playa Grande. If you want the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo it's only a quick water taxi away but feels like another world here. Plenty of great places to eat and drink and things to do just steps away but secluded and peaceful if you just want to soak in the pool on a hot day. Catch the extraordinary sunset on the beach and then treat yourself to a fresh fat tuna steak at Cafe Mar Azul! A perfect day!

Simply paradise

The location is perfect, if your looking for a place that is remote yet close to all the perfect tiki huts and such, this is the place. Close to the town, yet separated by an estuary... water taxi a short walk away or a hike down the beach. My favorite part of the house is the cabana above the garage. Our kids took surfing lessons from the place next door, by the end of the afternoon they were fully surfing on their own, we did several excursions and had an awesome time. Will rent again and look forward to returning.

Great Beach House

We were 2 couples and 2 young kids. Had a great week in Playa Grande. Shawna and Jorge were extremely helpful. The house was beautiful and well-equipped. Only wish that there were some beach chairs and a portable umbrella for Playa Grande as there are no shady spots on the beach. Water taxi to town was convenient, however the last taxi is at 5 p.m. so if you either drive or take a taxi if you want to go into Tamarindo in the evening. Other amazing were beaches within a short drive. All in all, exactly what we were looking for.

Perfect Location

We had a nice stay at Casa Kalumina! House was in perfect location. Easy to get in touch with Shawna and Jorge during our stay for any questions we had. House had all the necessities! Spacious and A/C kept us comfortable during our stay. The outside was well maintained and kids enjoyed the pool which was mainly shaded and perfect for enjoying outside w warm temperatures. Less than 5 min walk to beach! Sunsets on beach were beautiful! We did surf lessons from Playa Grande Surf Camp right next door. We enjoyed the tight knit community and all the restaurants. 3 are in short walking distance and ALL had great food. There was a coffee shop close by as well. Grateful Dead restaurant had live music and was helpful in arranging water taxi to Tamarindo and several excursions. We did private estuary tour, walked around Tamarindo, surf lessons, and 4 person ATV side by side tour to remote beaches while staying at this house! Would highly recommend this house and location!! Thank you!!

Montreal family of 8 adults + baby

Villa as per pictures. 3 bedrooms in main villa including 2 large ones with adjacent bathrooms very appreciated. The 4th bedroom in outside casita does not have wifi. All bedrooms have air conditioning, a must to enjoy sleep. Beds were comfortable. Huge screened porch very nice and bbq quite useful. Kitchen very well equipped with a large number of pots and various accessories. One fridge rather tight for large family like ours. Beach towels and accessories very useful namely the tent for shade and the 4 chairs. No body surfs though. Small swimming pool as described. Water shortages at check in and on departure. Very good assistance from Shawna and Jorge for these issues. Very kind in providing tips / suggestions and booking chef for a birthday dinner. Area was noisy (roof construction, adjacent villa) but not Shawna-Jorge fault. Exceptional beach.

The Perfect Getaway!!!

This place was perfect! A very clean and spacious place with a true Costa Rican vibe! Our family of 9 found it to have all the amenities we needed. Comfy beds and big kitchen with everything needed for cooking. The pool was a bit smaller than anticipated but we all used it everyday with no issue!The private casita room had a broken AC when we first arrived but Shawna and Jorge responded instantly and it was fixed by the time we woke up the following morning.In fact, our hosts, especially Shawna were incredibly helpful and responsive for the entire duration of our stay. Shawna set up our shuttles to and from the airport, stocked groceries for our arrival and arranged a snorkeling trip (probably the best we've ever been on)The beach access was perhaps the highlight. Less than a 5 minute walk and then faced with a long stretch a soft sand and a quiet beach. We brought our own umbrellas and used the tent provided by the property. Local surfers and surfer camp students made up most of the other beach comers and we just loved the atmosphere.Access to Tamarindo was a 10 minute walk to the water taxis. But we preferred the quiet of our area. The property is in a small community with some local restaurants (delicious) and shops including a min-mart with some food items (breads, eggs, milks, cereal, coffee). For big groceries (meat, vegetables) you would need to plan accordingly to head to Tamarindo or Playa Grande.Overall, loved our stay and would highly recommend!

Great villa with a tropical feel

We were a party of 6 adults and 2 babies and this villa was the perfect fit. It would have been a bit tight for 8 adults as the extra bedroom and bath is very small. The villa was well furnished with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. A lot of our time was spent in the pool and the screened in porch was a life saver. Although only 1 of the 2 fans worked it was a cool retreat from the heat. The location was great, less than a 5 min walk to a beautiful beach. Where we enjoyed sundown most days. About 20 mins walk into tamarindo (using the water taxi or walking across the estuary) and within a 5 min walk to 4 bars and restaurants and a small local grocery store and a couple of surf shops. The couple of bikes provided allowed us to venture a little further into playa granda, which is a 45 min walk. At the time of our visit there was construction at the lot next door and also across the street. They start prompt at 7am and finish around 5, which did spoil our visit somewhat but mike, Nancy and Shawna were upfront about that as soon as they knew it was starting and gave us the option of canceling or a discount. Final mike and Nancy and the property managers, Shawna and her husband, were amazing to deal with. AnswerIng all of our questions promptly and turning up to respond to our few concerns before I even had chance to check my check my phone. All the while, respecting our privacy. Thank you again to Mike and nancy for letting us stay in your property.

Great Property Wasted due to poor management

House is a great size and layout. neighborhood is fantastic with great proximity to beaches and restaurants, etc. The screen room is particularly uNeful. When in a country like Costa Rica you have to be prepared for bugs and critters. However, it is reasonable to expect efforts to be taken to minimize them. In this case, the property manager does not seem to care in the least. The very first night we killed half a dozen cockroaches and figured out they were coming out of the shower drain. We solved this for the stay by covering the drains when we were not using them which meant we only had a few more to deal with over the stay. A simple stainless steel screen could have been installed. Then we turned off the lights to go to bed but 15 minutes later turned a kitchen light back on there was at least 50 ants crawling all over the counters. We had only just arrived and there was NO food anywhere. We fogged the kitchen with raid but ultimately leaving the lights on in the main areas all night was the only way to control the situation. This took the ants down to a manageable situation. You could also see where the carpenter type ants were eating through doors from the bottom. We also had live crabs and a scorpion to deal with. If this was my house I would be concerned. We checked out 2 days early and advised the property manager. We never received any form of acknowledgement or communication - none. Very unprofessional & in line with the standards we saw in use.

We loved the charm of this property and we appreciated having three comfortable bedrooms with three full bathrooms. The fully equipped kitchen served us well and we took advantage of being able to do laundry on site. The pool and patio were well used and being a short walk from the beach was an added bonus. Shawna is an excellent property manager and the area is safe. We would not hesitate to stay there again!
