Andy and I have been spending our winters in Dominica for the last 8 years. We have found a lovely community in Toucari and a good social life in Portsmouth. We are from the UK and are now semi retired. We love to sail and spend summers in the Mediterranean. In between we love our life in UK with family and friends. The variety works well for us.

Why Kate Thorley chose Toucari
Location is everything and in just two minutes you can walk into Toucari bay. The village is small and has a local feel rather than touristic. You will find friendly locals who are happy to welcome you and have a chat. Wander the 300 metres past the Rum Shops, fishing boats and kayak/paddle-board hire until you reach the sandy beach. Relax, watch the Pelicans and swim or snorkell out to one of the 2 reefs in the bay. These reefs are known to be 2 of the best on the island and the great thing is you will almost always be exploring on your own. No other tourists to be seen. Toucari has the advantage of being off the beaten track but only 10-15 minutes drive to a good choice of restaurants and bars and grocery shopping. The biggest advantage of being based in the North however is having a wonderful choice of hikes, beaches and interesting sites to visit where you hardly ever see another tourist. The cruise ship passengers rarely make it up here. Some of our recommended trips are only known by a few locals so you really feel like you are adventuring and discovering some spectacular scenes. A good selection of restaurants and bars all within 10 -15 mins drive Shops and supermarkets within 10-15 mins drive
What makes this Cottage unique
Treetops overlooks the calm Caribbean sea and the beauty of Toucari Bay. Swim and snorkel in beautiful natural Toucari reef marine reserve Toucari Beach only 2 mins walk from the cottage Cabrits National Park and historic Fort Shirley and the museum is amazing and full of history, and only 10 minutes drive. Take a guided row boat silently down Indian river through the mangroves It feels like you are travelling back in time. See one of the locations of Pirates of the Caribbean. Syndicate Trail is the spot to see the parrots and wander through the rainforest on a maintained track. Dominica has so many waterfalls and bathing pools in the north. Make your choice Milton Falls, Chaudierre pool, Lapluy Falls and Lamothe River Falls. Visit the drive though volcano at Cold Soufriere and take a short trek to the sulphur springs. Dominica's largest beach at Purple Turtle with the picturesque anchored yachts is 10 mins away Locally we have a variety of activities horse-back riding, kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing, and more, all within walking distance or a short distance or a short drive away. You can choose to relax or fill your day with so many activities
