Wonderful Stay

This was the perfect house for us to stay in. There were 5 adults in my group and this house had plenty of room for us all. The owner was very nice and helpful. She recommended all types of things/places for us to go/visit on the island. The house is in a quiet area and is very clean. The property manager was very helpful and if we needed anything he was right on it. If your looking for quiet but yet close to everything this is your place.

We cleaned it ourselves.

This was very disapointing. The house was filthy, and we had to take the time to clean it ourselves. We purchased our own cleaning supplies to do so. Opposite of Covid standard cleaning. But also just standard cleaning. -Swept dirt and sand filled floors -Cleaned beds that were filled with dirt, bugs, and old trash on them, we still weren't comfortable on them, but we made do. -There was still left over trash inside the house and the trash can outside was completely full. - cleaned kitchen, there were dead roaches, dead lizards, and their droppings on the counters. -the bathrooms had sand and trash in them. -Hair all in the drains. Shower floors were completely dirty. -several things on property did not belong to us when we arrived. We had issues with check-in. My friend who paid with her credit card was not allowed to arrive until we showed up. They were here at 1:00pm waiting to check in and we didn't arrive until 8:00pm. The neighborhood is nice and quiet, we felt very safe and the location is great. We sent this message to the Host, they did not respond to this message. Hoping to receive compensation, we have several pictures to share. Our first night was compromised. We all had terrible allergies all week from the mildew, mold and bed mites. We also have our own rental properties on ST.Thomas. This was disappointing.

Close to everything, wonderful house on beautiful property

Mango House was an awesome stay for a family with 6 kiddos. Plenty of beds, WIFI (a must with 6 teens) and close proximity to almost every beach in St. Croix. This is a great house to utilize as your home base during the visit. We spent most of the time at the beach but did breakfasts and some dinners at home The patio is great to sit out in the evenings. Alyx is a Gem of a host, and Jay met us at the airport and hand-delivered us to the house on our first day. Trips like this keep us renting houses for trips versus booking hotels.

This house was wonderful! Great people to work with. Would recommend to anyone. Alyx, J.. Thank you!

I would like to start by saying what a pleasure it was staying at The Mango House. It hosts 8-10 guests comfortablely with 2 full baths (yayyy!) So, my family of 7 had enough room to truly breathe in the fresh island air. The house, which felt more like our home provided us with everything we needed and more - personal, clean, spacious, conveniently located and packed full of amenities. This was the first time my family and I tried a home rental instead of a hotel and we definitely made the right choice. The home did not disappoint. Everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay is within driving distance. I will definitely return. Another major plus both the owner, Valerie (Alyx) and property manager, Jason (J) was so attentive and answered all my questions in a timely manner. Working with each of them felt like talking to family and it made the transition before, during and after our visit an ease... Our Family truly thanks you for helping to make our visit so incredible, Shantel & Family (Dec 29 2015 - Jan 5, 2016)

Hi World! I am from St. Croix, US, Virgin Islands and currently live in San Antonio, TX. The picture is of me in front of the house in the mid 70's with my horse. Now I am married with 10 grandchildren. We love to travel and experience places the way locals do. I am former military and my husband is retired from the Army. I am a Navy brat, a Star Trek fan and work in the IT industry. I go between our house in San Antonio and Mango House, where I grew-up. My father was a Naval photographer and you will see some of his work in the hallway and other places in the house. If by chance you recognize anything in his pictures I would love to hear about it.
My motto in life is 'To build something wonderful, you have to start by doing it right.'

Why they chose this property

No matter where my life took me, I have returned to STX every year. Now I am bringing my grandchildren when they reach 14 to make sure we preserve our heritage and they understand the magic of our Island. When my father died in 2011, I inherited this house. My parents built the house. I use to go with my dad to the architects office in Frederiksted. Most Caribbean houses tend to have small rooms, specially back then. My Dad was claustrophobic so he needed to make sure the house was as open as possible. While it was being built they put in a wall between the living room and dining room. My dad told them it had to go. In the end that is why you will see that short wall between those two rooms. My father had an obsession with mango's. He'd plant a tree from seed and if he did not like the fruit (yrs later) he had it cut down. If he did like the fruit then it stayed and no one could touch them no matter how big they got. We have huge trees. After he passed away I had 10 mango trees removed (we still have 14) and most of the others pruned. We all felt like he was going to come back from the grave to chew me out. :-)

We have travelled to many places in the world but none of them compare to the raw beauty of this Island we call home.

What makes this property unique

Close to just about everything! Hurricane Hugo caused destruction in much of St. Croix in 1989. Mango House became a refuge for 13 people. All 13 survived in the guest bathroom. Mango House is built with cinder blocks inside and out, and concrete. Hurricane Maria did not remove any trees but it did cut them in 1/2. They are still big but shorter than they were before the hurricane. Once again the house was untouched.
