A beautifully appointed period style property with all the amenities for an elegant experience.
We so enjoyed our visits to three local wineries; New Kent Winery, Saude Creek Vineyards and Gautier Vineyards. Excellent wines, beautiful views and such interesting owners. We're planning a return rendezvous in warmer weather to enjoy the outside seating area!

Recommend this property for a great stay just outside Richmond
We had a really wonderful stay at this historic home. Everything was as nice in the pictures as in person and the setting and location was even more beautiful in person. The home was very clean. The sheets and towels were very nice quality and there was plenty of toilet paper and paper towels stocked. The kitchen has everything we needed and was very modern. We highly recommend this place!
We enjoyed our stay and our dogs loved the yard. The stairs are narrow, so I had to carry my old dog up and down, but that's typical of a house built in that era. The buttercups covering the fields were beautiful.

Beautiful place
Four of us stayed at this historic, beautifully restored home for three nights and loved every minute of our time there. The restoration of the house and kitchen building is first-rate, and the furnishings area perfect in every way. It was quite cold while we were there, and the gas fireplaces made every room atmospheric and cozy (there's also an excellent central heating system). Couldn't have been better!

Hi Sallie, we are so happy you and your guests had a wonderful experience!
We found Moss Side Manor to be all that was promised, and more! The manor was clean and beautiful and thoughtfully appointed. The host and staff were unfailingly pleasant and accommodating. What a lovely way to step back in time and explore the rich history of the area (without sacrificing any modern conveniences!). We will certainly return for future getaways!
Our family of four loved our stay at the Moss Side Manor house. The house was very comfortable and we loved the historic furnishings. The farm setting was very interesting. We saw the farm manager feeding the cows and he kindly gave us an impromptu lesson on the farm and area properties. The house was also close to several restaurants and a short drive to Williamsburg. All in all a great visit. Highly recommended.

A glimpse into the past
While having all the modern comforts. Gorgeous property from the front entry gate - to the abundant surrounding grounds. Comfortable, cozy, beautifully renovated and decorated, without losing the history and charm of the original. The kitchen out back took things up a notch. And fireplaces! Cannot wait to return and relax!

New Kent, VA
Last minute stay in this beautiful mid century home. So much fun staying in an old home, beautifully decorated and had every amenity you could ever want.
Loved that the kitchen was in another building. Made for such a different experience. My kids absolutely loved it! Will stay here or in another one of the properties again!
Pam was extremely good to work with and was very accommodating!

Hi Holly, thank you for your review. We look forward to having you back soon!
We were in the area seeing our son who is in VA for his summer internship. The home feels historical accurate while still having modern amenities. Having the kitchen in a separate building took a little getting used to but we managed. Our dogs were fascinated by the cow and the ground are beautiful. We had a small issue with the smoke alarm going off but the host was extremely responsive and handled it within 20 mins

Great Time
Most importantly would you come back? Resounding YES!! House was amazing, the opportunity to stay in a historical property was priceless. Had some problems with the gas fireplace but maintenance came out right away even though it was Thanksgiving.
Easy to book, all communication with property was open and easy as well. Like I said I would do this again. Even the dogs had fun, lots of open space for them to run and explore. Great time for the entire family.

Amazing!
Step back into time with amazing modern conveniences. Moss Side Manor is truly incredible. The house and side house offered so much unique character and dimension to our stay. We brought two of our boys (16 and 9) and they loved the experience. Richmond and Colonial Williamsburg were just 30 minutes away. It is a beautiful and romantic house , which is impeccably kept as well as clean. Moss Side Manor exceeds the listing. Amy was fabulous and provided excellent communication. Thank you so much for the amazing memories.

1700s Magic
As you enter Moss Side, you imagine you are back in the 1700s living in this beautifully appointed home! In the separate "back kitchen", no expense was spared for those of us who enjoy cooking in and eating in the upstairs servants quarters! The location was perfect for our sightseeing day trips to Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown (both the state reconstruction and the National Parks Service archeological sites) and the Mariner's Museum in Newport News. Amy was responsive to our needs and check in & out couldn't have been easier! We enjoyed our time here as it was perfectly set up for 2 couples and would highly recommend it for the comfort and experience of being in a museum-like atmosphere.

Hi Bette! Reviews like this really make us happy! We're glad we could accommodate you and look forward to seeing you again!
We spent 6days in this lovely historic home. While adjusting to the kitchen being in a different building was unique; we really enjoyed the modern kitchen. It actually gave us a little away space. The house was beautifully appointed with quality antiques; yet comfortable for modern living. The television was turned on only twice, but the internet was very strong.
We found a super winery and ice cream shop very close by. We traveled into Williamsburg twice, once for reservations at the Kings Arms Tavern (delicious) and again for the Fourth of July celebration (spectacular).
I would definitely return to this house and its location.

Beautiful home!
My family stayed at Moss Side for Christmas and although I have stayed in many beautiful VRBO homes, this is the shining star! The home and kitchen have been beautifully restored and decorated. We were not only comfortable staying there, we were charmed by the furnishings. It was spotlessly clean and the highlight of the trip was dining in the dining room above the kitchen in candlelight with a roaring fire. Amy is great to work with and checked in with us to insure we had everything we needed. I did not want to cook during our vacation so Amy recommended Brenda, who is on staff and also a caterer. We were so pleased by everything she made for us especially the tortellini soup, cornbread salad, goulash and chocolate cake(which was out of this world!). My family and I love history and we felt honored to have been able to stay in such a beautifully restored historic home. We will be back!

Hi Susan, what a lovely review! We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience at our property. Thank you again!
This property is exceptional!...do not hesitate to book. The property and house are exactly as pictured....all top of the line amenities. Perfect location to enjoy all the historical sites all nearby. We look forward to returning. Thank you!!!
This is a beautiful property . It is very nicely decorated, makes you feel stepping back in time. The amenities are very modern. I was wowed by the kitchen appliances and the mini fridge in the main building. The owner/manager has tend to every detail of the house, they even have robes for you. In the morning, listening to birds and watching the cows is just heavenly. It is about 30 minutes from the restaurants or site seeing in Williamsburg but the drive is very easy so we don’t mind. We sat in the screened porch, read books and listened to birds singing. It is such a nice property that I was surprised it is up for rent at a really reasonable price. New Kent Winery, which is like 5 minutes down the road, is very nice. The property manager Nichole is really responsive and easy to communicate with. We are already planning to go back!
A beautiful setting and a lovely home with gorgeous antiques. We felt like we stepped back in time yet were able to enjoy all of the comforts and amenities of a fine modern home. We loved cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. Family members also stayed in the charming cottage just down the road and we all agreed this was a very special experience - And the "Oreo Cows" were an unexpected treat! We highly recommend this home.
Beautiful, charming and historic property! Check-in was easy, we arrived early but found the New Kent Winery just a short drive down the road. House was very clean and ready by the promised check-in time. Our dogs and kids loved running around the open property and of course were mesmerized with the beautiful cows, they may have have been their favorite part of the whole week! Kitchen was unique and quaint, beware of the wasps that have nests upstairs in the wicker baskets. Hosts, McKenzie and Nichole were very responsive when we needed them. Overall, we had a blast and would absolutely come back!
My husband and I stayed here last year for our anniversary. We loved it so much that we stayed here again for our anniversary this year. This home is stunningly beautiful. We love the separate kitchen and really enjoy having our dinners in the dining room above it. It is clean and the host is very easy to communicate with. One of the fireplaces wasn’t working at the time we were there so the host dropped of a bottle of wine for us to enjoy. This home is away from the bustle of city life and only 35 minutes away from Colonial Williamsburg. I highly recommend renting this place if you are going to be staying in the area.
Our family of four really enjoyed our stay at historic Moss Side Manor! It was sparklingly clean and charmingly decorated in period furnishings and had lots of special small touches. We especially loved cooking in the separate kitchen building - this is something truly unique and elevates this property to an experience, not just a place to sleep. The setting is so pretty and peaceful and is very convenient for touring the Historic Triangle area. We have rented properties all over the U.S. and Europe and we all agree that Moss Side Manor was one of our absolute favorites. Highly recommend it!
This historic property is nicely maintained and clean. Some instructions on how to run appliances and fireplaces would be helpful. Check in was easy but If you are showing up at night bring a flashlight as it is very dark out there and no outside lights were on. The neighborhood was very quite except for the morning crows and the afternoon cows. Lol It was a unique experience to have the kitchen in a separate building. Fun for a short stay would not want to live this way everyday. The only downside to our stay was that the fireplaces had just been turned on for season and a couple of them were not working. We do not have fireplaces in our house so that was a huge selling point for me on staying there. Overall a lovely home and nice stay .Thanks for sharing your house with us!!
Everything about our stay was great. Good base location to visit the historical sites in Virginia.

Why they chose this property
The current property owner, John Poindexter, an entreprenuer as well as a land and building preservationist, is a native Texan. He currently resides in Houston while considering New Kent, Virginia his second home.
With family roots in New Kent dating to the late 1600's, John began a property acquisition and restoration effort in 2013. By 2014 it included 2500 acres of rural property situated near Williamsburg, VA. The acquired properties are once again becoming farming acreage and managed forests, characteristic of the colonial era. Unlike most entrepreneurs whose interest New Kent has captured, his intentions have been to protect and preserve.
The property was in extreme disrepair when purchased in 2013. With the guidance of local craftsmen and talented advisers, the property was fully revitalized to its original condition, along with a few modern conveniences. In a home that was at one time full of life and vitality, the owner desires that new memories will be created and cherished by those who visit. Moss Side, circa 1865, was one of John's first renovations. Moss Side's acres were once in the Poindexter family, from which it was purchased and operated for generations by the Christian family. The Christian family still lives in New Kent and remains close neighbors and friends. The Christian's were pleased to witness the masterful renovation and to see their beloved family homeplace restored to its original elegance.
What makes this property unique
Moss Side is a wonderful place of tranquility and retreat due to its seclusion and natural beauty. It features a natural, lush environment and direct access to 216 farm and forest acres for the enjoyment of guests. The convenient location allows access to the wineries and golf courses and the James River Plantations, and is located near Richmond and Williamsburg, as well as Hampton Roads and Northern VA/ Washington D.C.
