Villa with Dreamy Views

This is an airy neoclassical villa, one of the finest on Poros. The artists Lucian Freud and John Craxton lived and worked in the house in the late 1940s. It's set back from the waterfront, so peaceful even with the windows open. The balcony is a place to watch the boats, big and small, and plan your trip to Epidaurus, just a hour away. You have the whole of the first floor with its garden and terrace. There is a quiet friendly couple living on the ground floor.

Amazing!

The most amazing view! A very soulfull house. A nice and very quiet area. A lovely backyard under shady trees. We absolutely loved it!

Außergewöhnliche Fewo mit Geschichte

Die Zeit scheint 1947 ein wenig stehen geblieben zu sein, als Freud und Craxton hier mehrere Monate verbrachten. Die Küche mit Kachelfliesen und Gasherd, rustikalem Holztisch, hölzerner Sofabank, das Kaminzimmer, die Stahlfedern im Bett mit der fantastischen Aussicht... Und überall liegen Bücher über die berühmten britischen Maler. Die Wohnung hat Stil, wenngleich auch neuere Elemente zu finden sind (Elektroherd, Sofa im Wohnzimmer). Fantastische Lage in der zweiten Reihe, aber mit Blick vom Balkon über die Dächer hinweg quer über die Bucht. Und wenn es dort zu windig war - wir waren im März da - wärmte die Sonne im geschützten Innenhof. Man muss auch ein paar Abstriche machen: Die Fenster schließen nicht perfekt. Rund um den Heiztank auf der unaufgeräumten Dachterrasse riecht man das Öl, manchmal auch ganz leicht im Innenhof. Die einzige Dusche (in der Badewanne) hat keine Halterung. Es wird gebeten, die Hauptschalter für Heizung und Warmwasser nur bei akutem Bedarf anzumachen. Dafür ist der Preis recht hoch. Wir haben es aber genossen. Die Position ist auch sonst perfekt: 200 Meter abseits der sehr belebten Tavernenmeile - weit genug weg, aber nah genug dran. Der Ort ist ursprünglich geblieben: enge Gassen bis hoch an den Berg, in denen sich auch noch manche Taverne findet. Gute Bademöglichkeiten gibt es aber erst ca. 2km entfernt. Der Kontakt mit Effie war nett und ihr Helfer Tony war auch sehr zuverlässig. Vielen Dank!

A beautiful apartment with stunning views

Really excellent communication with Effie, both before, during and after our stay. The apartment is lovely, more a home than a holiday rental with stunning views from the balcony and with a charming small garden outside. The kitchen has good equipment and there is also a small dining room as well as a large and comfortable lounge with a huge variety of books. When we arrived Tony was waiting for us at the ferry and carried two heavy suitcases for us up the steps. The apartment is very convenient, close to many great Tavernas and we enjoyed choosing some from Effie's list, as well as returning to some we knew already. We walk or use taxis to go to most of the beaches and do not have a car. Many thanks for a lovely stay.

Just what we wanted

This is a very charming house in a great location. We spent a lot of time on the terrace injoying the view and watching the parade of boats swirl about the harbor. Effie gave us lots of good advice regarding restaurants and activities.
