Casa Do Avo Rural Cottage , A Jem in the hills of Madeira

Casa do Avo is a three bedroom cottage situated in a very calm area in Arco da Calheta. A traditional cottage in the hills of Madeira. This is a house where you are one with nature in a little village up in the hills. The e nearest beaches (Madalena do Mar or Calheta) are only in only 15 minutes by car but this house is most special for being close to the Levadas
Casa do Avo, which means, grandfathers house is close to the network of streets that go to Porto Moniz from the hills, Fanal and Encomeada.

Just 5 minutes drive down is a nearby small markets, restaurants and bars were you can taste the famous Poncha of Madeira.
On the cooler days you can light up the kitchen fire place so as to heat up the kitchen. A Salamadra is also installed so that the rooms are all heated.


Depending on the time you visit us you can assist to religious celebrations or to various events on the island, like Christmas, New Year’s Eve, Carnival, Flower Party...

Séjour de 3 semaines en septembre.Grande maison parfaite pour groupe mais très peu de vaiselles. Beaucoup des équipements de la maison sont en fin de vie utile. La maison bien qu’à quelques km des services, la route tortueuse et pentue pour s’y rendre les rendent difficilement accessibles. (Aucun service à pied) Après notre arrivée le propriétaire ne répondait plus à nos questions. De plus malgré l’information du propriétaire de faire le ménage à mi séjour nous n’avons jamais eu le service.Belle vue, belles terrasses et facile d’accéder à Fanal Forest.

Like paradise!

We really enjoyed staying in this cottage. The place is very idyllic and the view is wonderful. We recommend hiking the levadas below the cottage. The owner is very kind and helpful.
