The Classic bedroom also has a king-size bed and has classic art pieces, including some replicas of greek and roman art. There is also a chair-mattress in a loft. The living room also has a sleep sofa, if needed. IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES – wine tastings at local vineyards, or bringing a reputable local chef who will spend an afternoon/evening at Villa Lavanda and teach you how to prepare a local Dalmatian meal (seafood, vegetarian, you pick!) You can participate or just watch. Meals can range from a traditional Dalmatian “peka” to “buzara.” These meals will be prepared with fresh food coming from a local organic farm. GETTING THERE: Cultural Cross-Roads Gradac is the most southern beach village on the Makarska Riviera. It is placed at the crossroads from the Roman Split and the Renaissance Dubrovnik, to UNESCO-protected Muslim village. The region has many cultural and religious sites including the Catholic churches and the Pilgrimage Medjugorje, Sephardic synagogues, Orthodox churches, and mosques. Gradac is also very close to a few recognized wine appellations. - organic one Komarna, near the Peljesac bridge and many on Peljesac penninsula. Gradac is centrally located between the Split and Dubrovnik airports, so you can fly to either one. Split Airport is time-wise closer. Depending on how you plan to spend your vacation, having a car is not a necessity at our house as there are stores and restaurants nearby. If you don’t plan on renting a car and need an airport transportation to and from, or occasional additional rides, we can organize that. Just let us know. It is a faster trip from Split, as the A1 highway from Split goes all the way to Ploce, so you only have a few kilometers on a two-way road to Gradac, making it an 1.5 hour drive. The drive to Dubrovnik airport is an hour longer as it is only a two-way road. Getting to Gradac is not an issue, but getting back to the Dubrovnik airport to your return flight might be, so we recommend people stay south of Dubrovnik (Cavtat) for the last night before their trip back home.
GRADAC Take a stroll on the beach and enjoy snorkeling, diving, peddle boat and surf rentals, etc. You can rent bikes in the nearby hotel. The local bakery is a few meters away, a convenience store about 100 m away, and both the pharmacy and a medical office are in town (which you hopefully will not need on your vacation). During the summer, there is a waterpark perfect for children and adventurous adults. There are plenty of small restaurants and cafés in town. So, if you chose to, you can stay on the beach and relax for days, and just walk everywhere.
HIDDEN NEARBY GEMS In addition to the beautiful Adriatic sea and all watersport activities, there are many points of interest in this area, which is a genuine cultural cross-road. From Split to Dubrovnik (both of which have very old Sephardic synagogues; the one in Dubrovnik being the oldest one still in use in Europe) to Mostar and Počitelj with their Otoman Empire architecture - you will be mesmerized with the beauty of the geography, architecture and music and the notion of inclusivity regardless of the recent wars. Add to that a few hidden adventures like a photo safari in the Neretva valley or kite surfing on the delta sand beaches, you will wish time has stopped. We encourage you take advantage of being close to many sites that are not as frequently visited, and all are within a short distance of Gradac. Upon your booking we will send you a list with links to many sites, including these: Komarna Appellation Wineries – organic appellation with tastings - Rizman, Terra Madre Kite surfing on Neretva delta Metkovic -- Narona, old Roman city, in situ archeological museum Bacina Lakes Pocitelj and Mostar, one day trip to Herzegovina Day-trips by boat to the islands of Korcula and Hvar Zaostrog - old Franciscan monastery with an ethno museum Makarska - from Shell museum to the Skywalk

Loved being steps from the beach. And the Dalmatian peka dinner that the owner's uncle prepared for us in the on-site peka fireplace hearth was impressive and delicious.
The house was exactly as presented, clean, internet fast enough for Teams and other work stuff, everything needed to live in the house for a week was there. The beach is a 20 seconds walk across the street, beach was clean, no too crowded and the weather was incredibly nice. Great place to relax.
Stopped over for a few days in the middle of a busy trip around the region. Just what we were looking for to recharge our batteries - quiet, nice walks along the beach, literally across the street from the pebble beach. Very comfortable, everything we needed.

Thank you for youre visit. We look forward to having you return.
A lovely family beach house, with homey and personal touches. A great front terrace and garden, and only 12 ft - the width of the road in front of the house - to the beautiful pebble beach. Loved it!

Thank you Ludwig. Nice that you had a great time in teh Fall. We hope you will return.
Excellent location on a quieter part of the town with larger beach. House well stocked. Easily split into two sections with two bedrooms each for two families. We had a bit of trouble with the hot tub, but the owner was very responsive to trying to address the problem. Highly recommend taking her up on a local making a Peka experience, quite a treat.

Thank you Anna. Glad you enjoyed it and we hope you will return.
The property is well maintained and located 5m from the beach. There is a lovely terrace with an awning at the front which is a great setting for most meals - amazing views. There is also a great jacuzzi which is nice on cooler days. The beach is fine although you need to hire loungers if you don’t want to lie on the stony beach. Gradac is a local holiday resort but has some decent restaurants nearby.

Thank you for choosing Villa Lavanda. And thanks for your feedbakc. We just ordered lounge chairs to replace the smaller chairs. Hope you come back to check it out! Hvala.
My family came to Mirena’s home to spend time together by the sea along with our 3 kids and my brothers family of 4. The house is so well equipped- we all had a comfortable place to sleep and relax. We enjoyed cooking in the inside kitchen and the outdoor one. Both are set up so well. Beach equipment like towels and chairs (and more!) are also available so you literally just walk out of the beautiful garden into the beach. It was a dream and exactly what I needed- so relaxing, gorgeous views, well equipped , comfortable and beautiful. I’d come again in a heartbeat.

Thank you Ivana and family. Glad you had fun - since we use the house as a family, we have set up everything to be easy and comfortable. Please let us know when you'd like to be back - we'd love to see you again.
We had a very nice week in Gradac. It was a family vacation with 9 people of different age.
The location of the house right next to the beach is very nice. The garden with an outdoor shower is perfect for relaxing after the beach or eating lunch/dinner.
It was very hot outside this week but the air condition in the house worked well and made it easy to sleep at night.
Gradac is also a very nice town if you want a relaxed vacation but still access to all you need, like water activities, running/hiking and restaurants and shopping.
The only dissapointment was that the hotel next door was closed, so the pool announced in the description of the house was not accessable.

Hello Johan, so glad you and famly had a great time at our house. We understand about the pool at the hotel, and we wish we knew that before so we could list it accordingly. I just updated info on the description to note that is only available if the hotel is open. Hopefully it will be next year. Best to you and family and let us know if you would like to come back.

We feel badly that the leak happened. We immediately apologized and said we would reimburse the one night for the whole house (4 bedrooms), when there was a leak in just one, and have done so. To put this “leak” in perspective -- the horrendous storm in Europe on Aug 4th and 5th was in fact catastrophic where newspapers reported: “Storms in Austria, Croatia and Slovenia have left a trail of devastation through the countries,” including people dying. A leak under these extreme conditions is not surprising.
Having said that, as soon as we were informed about the leak (and no other issues were reported), we found a repairman, and due to it being Sunday and no possibility to buy materials, one came on Monday morning. Meanwhile the rain had stopped on Sunday morning already, so there was just one night in question. Don’t know what the issue may have been with the bedframe.
The “Small Room” in both the photo and the graphic with the bed layouts, clearly includes a description of it being a “full-size” bed, meaning 140cm. The other three beds are one queen and two kings.
We fixed that one electrical plug. I have since asked other guests to let me know if there are any additional problems, and was told that they do not see any.
A group of 7 good friends had a wonderfully relaxing time in this perfect home. Large enough to give each of us space to be alone while also having plenty of options to hang out together in the day and evenings.
Literally right on the sea we had no need of a pool. Despite being close in fact to lots of small restaurants, cafes and shops, no noise disturbed us and we could still very much enjoy the sound of the waves.
Parking was the only thing that could be improved. Once we managed to locate how to access by car, you needed someone to guide you into the parking spaces as there it was a tight fit.
The house has everything you might need including lots of thoughtful items such as sea shoes and snorkels, sun hats and two brilliantly equipped kitchens!
We all would totally recommend this wonderful home.

Hi Ralf and Jana. We are happy that your group had a great vacation. We will be happy to have you come back. Do let us know if you are interested in next summer - we are stating to get requests already.

About the host
Hosted by Mirena Bagur
The Kacic family has been known in Croatian history since the 8th century -- fra. Andrija Kacic Miosic made the first ever Croatian language books, and there are multiple museums in the area devoted to him. The current generation of the Kacic Peko family lives in Gradac. Today's owner of Villa Lavanda, Prof. R. Bagur, born Peko, is an avid art historian, folklore explorer, and gardener who had built this villa on her great-grandfather's land. In the house, you’ll find many books to browse, (including two written by the owner), including her life-long work on reconstructing the national costume in this part of Croatia. In addition to continuing to be immersed in these profound cultural influences by their ancestors, the younger generation also enjoys the lighter side of life, including the local organic food and vino! With a sunset every day :-)
Why they chose this property
The charm of a home right on the beach, with the sophistication of an author and art historian whose family have been living in this village for centuries, and who spends a portion of the year in Villa Lavanda. Our home is very practical -- equipped with all modern necessities: wifi, TV, large gas BBQ grill, two refrigerators, washer/dryer, dishwasher, microwave, and a hot tub from which you can watch sunsets. Not only are you going to enjoy the garden, the beach, the view... but also you'll be very entertained by the pet tortoises which you can feed any leftover veggies. Also, do pick the fruit off the trees – particularly the lemons and figs. Welcome to our home and enjoy it, and please treat it as if it is yours!
What makes this property unique
Sunsets from the two front terraces are everchanging -- watch it every evening with a glass of your favorite drink. Whether you choose a local wine, a gin or rum drink, or just plain water, you will be immersed in the many senses of Dalmatia -- the sound of the waves combined with the crickets' song; the smell of pine trees infused with a touch of lavanda and lemon; the red sunsets, and maybe even a serenade from the local klapa group. Now, that is a vacation!
