Spacious private villa in lush tropical gardens, 2 mins stroll to sea and pool.

These guests were a delight to deal with. Communication, very important, was regular and clear without being over the top. They were obviously set to enjoy themselves and did just that whilst respecting my property as I'd wish them to do. My thanks to them - it makes my job worthwhile!

Sadly Gail and her party had a lot of heavy rain during their stay. Inevitably, the drain blocks up with floating vegetation and the road becomes waterlogged. Despite this, she continued to tell me that she was having an enjoyable time. She was a good communicator and sent pleasant messages at all times.

Thank you for your constructive comments. The tropics are hot and mosquitoes come with the package, I hope my notes on “How to Deal with Mosquitoes.” helped? I wonder if you hit on a particularly hot time for your stay? Properly refrigerated milk going off is definitely a first! Just to be accurate, there are three bathrooms at Mangoes, only one which is not ensuite and which is also the smallest. It has no window but an extractor fan. In most respects, Mangoes is in keeping with other Bajan properties:- It is not normal to cool public areas, the breeze will do that, and it is normal to have protective wrought iron at the windows. With particular regard to the air-con/ceiling fan, respectively, we have had/will have those concerns looked into by the appropriately skilled person. Issues all resolved then – apart from those dratted mozzies! Roll-on science to render them unable to bite – the sooner the better! Thanks for staying, Cheerio, Cath.

Ha! Not the old mosquito legend again! Studies show that our area (called Sunset Crest) is no more likely to be home to mosquitoes than any other - any locality can have an upsurge in population or a relatively mozzy free period, depending on conditions. The fact is there are lots of mozzies in the tropics. They are island wide in Barbados: at the airport, the shops, the restaurant, the beach bar, and at the beach, there are also biting sand flies. The good news is, they can be managed. Guests who use my guidance notes on “How to deal with mosquitoes” find the advice I give helpful in minimising the number of bites as well as the severity and speed of healing. I’m glad you liked the style, layout and location of my villa (Mangoes) and enjoyed your stay - despite the little tinkers! Thanks for taking the time to review us. Cheerio, Cath.

We rarely meet our guests because we live so far away; shame that our paths could only cross for a relatively short time. Barbados is a wonderful place, isn’t it? And our area in St James, Holetown/Sunset Crest and the whole of this aptly named Platinum Coast is both beautiful and well served. Thanks for all the positive comments about Mangoes - we love it so much and have personally put a lot of hard work into improving it and looking after it. At this point, I have to thank my lovely staff for helping in this too, particularly Lucille who is the person who keeps it all going in our absence. Thanks for confirming to future readers how well situated Mangoes is for all amenities. I usually say beach and pool are a 2 minute walk, restaurants abound between 2 and 10 minutes and the supermarket about 5, as you say. Hopefully you found our file, with local map, useful for locating these amenities. Our nearest beach comes and goes according to the sea which will take away the sand at times and rebuild it at others. There has been a man renting beach chairs on that beach and I’m surprised to hear that he was not there on this occasion. Fortunately, you found Surfside …. and, next door by Zaccios, (beach bar/restaurant) there are also rent-able beach chairs. Again, it was a pleasure to meet you and to have you stay. Many guests go to Mangoes to chill only - you went ahead and did a lot of things - many that I haven't done for years. (It's probably time to get out there and do some again!) I do like to go the extra mile to ensure guests are primed with all the "pre-holiday" info they might need and I am always confident that Lucille will take it from guest arrival, answering any questions and showing guests around the property. Yes, location was a major deciding factor when we purchased back in 2003. At only 2 minutes walk to beach, pool, shops restaurants, bars, banks etc etc what more could anyone ask? So glad you enjoyed your stay with us - if ever you want to come back again, we'll make you every bit as welcome as we did this time ...... more in fact; we love returners!
