We had a lovely time at this place. The views are beautiful from any room and the house is well stocked. The hot tub at the end of the hike was so fun. Meg and Bob are super friendly and communicative during the booking process.
I have stayed in many VRBOs in the US & abroad & have never once left a property early until now. This home is not at all as advertised. While the view is nice, & contact from the host was initially excellent (tho no response about my need to leave early for 24hrs), the home itself was a terrible experience. The photos on the site must be very old, as this house is in significant state of disrepair. There is mold and peeling paint throughout the house, windows stuck shut or so filthy you don’t want to touch them with dead flies on the windowsills. No screens & windows won’t stay open. Dead flies also noted in the bathroom mirror. The bathroom, which is notably absent from the photos, is awful. It is tiny, the floor feels like it is about to give away underneath, there is nowhere to put anything, & the toilet is so close up against the wall that anyone who is tall or larger in size would not be able to sit on it. The ceiling in the living room has clearly been leaking with paint patches to cover. The rug in the kitchen is held down in spots with duct tape. The kitchen is the only area updated in the last 20 years, yet it was not clean - crumbs & dog biscuit on the counter, spiderwebs in the windows. The hot tub was filthy - dirt, paint chips, other people’s hair & a layer of slimy grime covering the surfaces. The bed & sofa were very uncomfortable. There is nowhere outside to sit & enjoy the view, dirty plastic bench was gross. Believe the negative reviews, do not stay here.
Had a wonderful stay at Maggie's with my two friends. The place was HUGE and very comfortable. View was amazing too, and watching the seals frolic in the bay was a highlight.
I recommend this home if you love a house overlooking the harbor, mountains, with a property to explore. It’s an older home with charm and nice amenities such as a modern kitchen, heat, a hot tub witnessing the stars. We are grateful to have been able to stay here
We had an amazing time staying in Deer Harbor. The location was wonderful. The house could definitely use some maintenance and some kitchen items. With that said, if you can look past the minor inconveniences this place is a great place to stay.
Wonderful stay at what felt like home away from home. The views were great, the location perfect and the home felt like Grandma's where you just feel right at home. Thanks for sharing this amazing space with us. We can't wait to come back.
This sweet, 1930s home is easy to settle into, and sets the stage for a comfortable and relaxing vacation. The view of Deer Harbor from the living room and bedroom is spectacular. The hosts are thoughtful and generous in welcoming guests to explore their 100+ acre property. You’ll never want to leave!
The house was in a great location in proximity to Turtleback hiking areas. The view was great from the house and when we had a minor issue with the heat, the owners were extremely quick to respond to us and have it fixed. Overall it was a great stay.
Very old house with a very modern large kitchen. Idyllic setting with amazing views! Great place to reconnect with nature and recharge. Enjoyed the birdwatching and watching the wildlife-and the 2 very friendly dogs that came to visit!

This house is perfectly situated with great views over Deer Harbour, sadly the house is very poorly maintained. The garden had a huge covered hole in it and the house has peeling paint and poor upkeep. Inside the garbage and recycling wasn’t emptied and we found a hairbrush and dirty sock in the bedroom. There was some mould on the bathroom wall and holes in the floor. There was dust on several surfaces. And so much signage and instructions: we had to strip beds and put the towels onto wash before checking out.Overall this house needs a lot of TLC, and modernising. If you want clean, modern and chi chi this is definitely not the house for you.
We had a great time. We were able to unload at the marina next door, by asking permission from Nick. The house was a great for four adults. We cooked all our meals there, played games and sat in the hot tub. Great location with wonderful views. The dogs were fun too.
The location is just wonderful and the house is really nice. Huge kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. Locating it in the dark can be a challenge. Loved the fire ring and the daily visit from the sweet Sunny.
We had a lovely time staying at this property on Orcas. The house is very cozy and comfortable. The host family was super quick to help resolve the few house quirks that came up upon our arrival. The property view is stunning. And the small town near by has awesome shops and great food options. We look forward to our next trip to Orcas.
We had such a wonderful time at Maggie’s Getaway. The house is beautifully set on the harbor and exudes a loving home. Meg and Bob Connor were terrific hosts! Unfortunately we had to leave a day earlier than expected but hope to come again soon for even longer! Our kids are already asking to return. Thanks again for a great stay on Orcas!

About the host
Hosted by Meg and Bob Connor
We have lived full time on Orcas Island since 1975, raising three sons, who are now married with children who love to visit their grand-parents. We have been happily married for 54 years!
We moved up here with a down payment and no jobs and over the years have done many things. We have worked, farmed, been in construction, operated heavy equipment, coached Little League for all three sons, participated in countless community activities, volunteered at the school, run two successful gift and clothing shops, designed and built several buildings including the amazing Gnome House, and remodeled our other vacation rental waterfront home, Maggie's Manor, using the outstanding design drawings of our eldest son, now an Architect.
We are involved in cutting edge restoration of marine habitat and recently completed a 9 weir salmon ladder and planted over 1500 plants and trees over our estuarine and riparian areas. If you have a Facebook page, visit the Deer Harbor Stewardship Project page to see some of what we have been doing. We hope you will 'Like' it.
We have extensive backgrounds in skiing, sailing, cycling and mountaineering. We enjoy adventures and vacations with our children and grand-children.
Why they chose this property
We acquired this classic island waterfront home from a dear family friend who had lived there for over 40 years. We added the third and fourth bedrooms on the upper floor along with a second bathroom. The original tiny kitchen was enlarged to a gorgeous, modern 400 square foot kitchen. After extensive refurbishing and redecorating, we began welcoming vacationing guests in the summer of 1997.
Maggie’s Getaway is located on our 140 acre estate, near our home, and also near our other wonderful vacation rental an extremely popular chalet, the Gnome House, and now also, our Grandma and Grandpa's Getaway on the lower level of our home. We wanted to share our Orcas Island lifestyles with visitors from all over the world. We have on-going environmental restoration activities on our 3 streams, several ponds, magnificent 20 acre estuary, and 20 acre wildfowl marsh, as well as beautiful, productive farm and forest land. It is considered the most significant environmentally diverse San Juan Islands' property by local, state and federal environmental agencies.
The beauty and tranquility of Nature inspires everyone who visits.
Orcas Island is the most popular place in Washington to get married, and is the dream vacation spot for people all over the world, and we get to live here! And when visitors leave and we say 'goodbye', we always are so thankful that we don't have to leave this paradise! Orcas Island is our HOME.
What makes this property unique
In addition to the extraordinary beauty and serenity of Nature,so inspiring to us all, the incredible good weather in Deer Harbor is one of the main reasons for living here. Deer Harbor on beautiful Orcas Island is located in the 'Rain Shadow' area of the Great Pacific Northwest enjoying only 23 inches of rain and over 260 sunny days annually. This means that we can enjoy the great outdoors all year long, hiking, biking, sailing, fishing, etc.
There have been documented over 80 species of birds frequenting the extremely vibrant freshwater marsh. There are a variety of environmental programs in progress. We work with scientists, students, and Native Americans on our restoration efforts. Our property is the site of the first white European settler on Orcas Island, Louis Cayou, who married into the Samish Nation in the mid-1800s. We are working with the Samish descendants of Cayou in our restoration efforts, and hope to have their annual Canoe Journey with about 60 canoes stop here in the future. Should your dates not be available in this beautiful home, please see our other wonderful vacation rental homes: " Grandma and Grandpa’s Getaway for 2 adults + one child, and the "Famous Romantic Gnome House Chalet “ for up to 4 adults plus 2 small children.
