Ask a questionAbout Peter and Darla
This is us, Peter and Darla, enjoying another day in paradise. We have owned the Hawaiian Oasis Estate and Bed and Breakfast since 2005. We first visited Kona in 2002, and the Big Island definitely hooked us,(after several trips to the other islands!) We bought our first oceanfront property on that first trip, a townhouse just south of Kona village. We have been blessed to now offer four homes in Kona, including the Hawaiian Oasis Estate which we purchased in 2005. Over the last few years we have been remodeling the Oasis suite by suite. After several years of serving our guests as Innkeepers, we now have Tom and Maye Johnson as our on-site caretakers and innkeepers. We have 3 grown children...a fine arts painter, a photographer/film maker, and a fashion designer. Our large extended family includes a growing number of pugs!
Peter and Darla purchased this Estate in 2005
Why Peter and Darla chose Kalaoa
We fell in love with the property instantly upon entering the estate from the driveway (the Oasis has a way of doing that to people!) This is one of the most serene and peaceful places that we have ever closed our eyes and let the cares of the 'other' world disappear. As the morning sun rises over the Hualalai summit, the air around the Oasis is filled with birdsong, and one can't help but awaken with a smile and sense of awe. After many years of ownership, it is still as magical as the first day we found this gem.
What makes this Estate unique
The location of the Hawaiian Oasis makes it the perfect place to come home to while visiting the Big Island. It's a great launching spot no matter which way you're headed. We are 5 minutes from all Kona activities, but the serenity of the place feels like you are miles from anywhere. We love the bossy squawking of the wild parrots that have recently been hanging out in a big tree on the property, and the wild turkeys that innocently parade around like they own the place. Our neighbor grows some of the biggest mangoes we've ever seen, and occasionally one of those delectable beauties appears on the fruit platter for our B&B guests. It's pretty easy to forget that there are places to see and things to do once you get settled in here...maybe tommorrow...
