The Helm is located at the western end of picturesque Shoal Bay Beach just cross the grassy reserve and you are on the beach! Soft white sand, gentle waves lapping at the shore and stunning vistas as far as the eye can see await you. In this fantastic coastal location, you are also only 500m from family friendly Little Beach for calm water swimming, picnics and BBQ's or 1km to Shoal Bay's shops, cafes and restaurants. And, Nelson Bay CBD is just a few minutes by car for boutique shopping, more restaurants and cafes and the marina, where dolphin watch cruises depart daily.

This gorgeous, renovated apartment on the first floor provides a wonderful base for your relaxing seaside break. The north-facing balcony overlooks the leafy reserve, through to the sparkling turquoise waters that Port Stephens is known for. Sit out in the salty air, cook up a fresh seafood feast on the electric BBQ and enjoy alfresco dining with beautiful views. A wall of glass means natural light floods the air-conditioned, open living room and you can also enjoy the view from indoors while relaxing on the plush couch watching the 43" Smart TV with NBN Wifi and DVD player, dining at the 6-seater table or cooking in the fully equipped kitchen which includes a dishwasher, stove, microwave and full size fridge. Child proof screens allow the windows to fully open safely so the fresh sea breeze and calming sound of the waves filter through the apartment, complementing the charming coastal décor.

There is room for the family with 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and ceiling fan, and the other with 2 single beds, plus a modern bathroom with a shower, bath and separate toilet. The laundry has a washer, dryer and handy 2nd toilet, and undercover parking is available for one car in a single carport.

Port Stephens whale season goes from May through to November.
This property is a great location, very close to many of whale watching view points and cruises

Short Getaway

The listing was quite accurate and the place was nice. Although subjective, the pillows were a bit too big for us and we woke up with a stiff neck. Otherwise, our short stay was good and served our holiday well.

Great Location

Great Location. Beautiful Beach. Continuously hear the gorgeous sound of the waves. Unit clean but definitely take your own decent coffee and coffee plunger. A bit skint on tea bags, sugar etc. We are 2 adult friends who regularly B&B at different locations and its definitely very welcoming to be met with little extra touches like decent coffee & milk.

Clean, comfortable unit in great location. Enjoyed our stay although mattress was almost too soft for my troublesome back! No TV instructions for the current model and DVD didn't work but didn't miss this noise anyway. Would return for sure.

Great Place to Relax

As the place’s management operates through a call Centre (in the Philippines ?), the people’s English was sometimes less than clear and we received some conflicting information on check in, etc. and less than timely (in my view) information. Our face to face dealings in Nelson’s Bay on check out was very off handed. The property it self was very good and we would book it again, Now we know what to expect.

Needs updating

Carpet smelt of age and was torn. Single beds were so small, feet hung over the end obviously they were for children. No bath mats or hand towels. Extra charges would apply for a number of simple things if you didn’t comply. View was good and neighbours were friendly. Wouldn’t stay there again. Also we’re bombarded with what we could and could not do! Easy walk to Shoal Bay.

Basic Accommodation for inflated price

Location is perfect however this apartment is not up to scratch for the price. We provided feedback to the owner via the leasing agent and never received a response which would indicate the owners have no intention of fixing any of this. List of issues: Oven doesn't work BBQ very dirty on arrival Kitchen items very basic, not even a proper salad bowl or platter Apartment not clean Leaking shower Vacuum smells like vomit when in use Washing machine moldy Very disappointing.

Stayed for 4 days, perfect location- right next to the beach, apartment had all the amenities needed for a young family. Washing and dryer was a great plus. Were provided clean linen and towels at the beginning of the stay. Would have preferred if more dishwasher detergent was provided and table wipe provided. Apartment had a general clean done, but not at thorough wiped or vacuumed as expected as still felt sand on the carpet bit vacuums myself as vacuum was available. Overall still happy and would recommend.

Comfortable apartment

This apartment was comfortable and spacious. It was lovely falling asleep and listening to the sounds of the ocean. The only comment I would make is that the furniture is dated- in particular the living room furniture- which needs an upgrade. This impacts the impression is cleanliness. But otherwise, we were very comfortable here!

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Winnings refused to refund when a double booking was inadvertently made. Only rectified when HomeAway intervened.

Nelson’s Bay

Great location on beach front. For the price we paid per night a bit disappointed considering the following: there were a lot of plates, coffee cups and glasses that were not washed. A film of grease on the plates, coffee and tea stains with mouth marks all over the coffee cups, and glasses with grease and lipstick marks. Before we used any dishes had to put the whole lot through the dishwasher. There was also no kettle, so we boiled water in a pot. When we opened the window shutters and windows in the bedrooms there was mould on the shutters and mould and dust build up on the window sills. And we had to make our beds on arrival and put all rubbish out and pack away all dishes on our departure. Indeed very expensive for a place where we had to literally service our stay with amenities that were unclean or not even made available.

Shoal bay beach stay

Lovely position between Nelson & Shoal Bay. Comfy bed. Warm. Brilliant views. Well equipped but unfortunately the cooking pans & cutlery could do with replacing - they put us off when cooking our meals.
