Sodulsholt is a working horse training and conditioning farm on the Snaefellsnes peninsula that includes over 70 horses, horse stables, and a first class indoor riding facility on more than 1300 hectares (3,200 acres). We are located 2 hours from Keflavik International Airport and approximately 40 minutes northwest of the town of Borgarnes.
Our accommodations include cottages that sleep 4 people comfortably. Cottage includes Wifi (for email, internet browsing), a double mattress, 2 twin beds, full kitchen (including microwave, toaster, coffee machine, refrigerator), sitting area, bathroom with shower, and outside seating area. Fresh linens are provided. Do you prefer to grill? A "Weber" grill is available for your use.
Sodulsholt serves as a central location to explore the beautiful surroundings of the Snaefellsnes peninsula, including the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, a nearby geothermal pool, Gullborgarhraun Lava field (formed by the Gullborg volcano 7000 to 9000 years ago and referenced in the Icelandic Sagas), the village of Stykkisholmur, Arnarstapi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.
Foal season typically runs from May through September when we welcome additional foals into the Sodulsholt family.
Experienced horsemen could reserve a horse for riding around the area including to the nearby beaches (extra fee). Our property also includes a river where you can test your skills at catching fresh Icelandic salmon (extra fee, summer only, bring your own sanitized gear). Horse riding is not possible between November 1 and March 1.
Our Snaefellsnes location is ideal for observing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) as they can be seen from October through March.
Sodulsholt is located approximately 13 km (8 miles) from the Eldborg Volcanic Crater, 50 km (31 miles) from the town of Borgarnes, 45 km (28 miles) from the historic town of Stykkisholmur, 69 km (43 miles) from Arnarstappi/Hellnar and the Snaefellsjokull glacier.
