We enjoyed our stay in Gladstone. The house was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The weather was frigid while we were there so most of the time we stayed in and enjoyed the fireplace. We brought our own wood but there are gas stations in the area that sell firewood in the winter. We had some delicious breakfasts at the Swedish Pantry in Escanaba. We would like to come back when it is warmer.
Great location! Enjoyed the park & beach just across the street. Restaurants & bars were within walking distance or just a short ride. Beautiful drive up to Pictured Rocks National Shoreline. Only disappointment was the yard was not fully fenced for our puppy.
Great place to stay for all types of people.
Cozy and peaceful inside.

Thanks Greg, it was a pleasure having you as a guest and I hope you will return in the future... although I doubt the bass population in the Bay would be very excited to see you again! Take care-Ron
Very clean. All beds comfortable. Anything you can imagine was available for use. Great outdoor spaces. Across the street from the Gladstone Park. Very safe area.Already booked for next year!
Perfect! It was exactly as described & the photos are up to date. Host & property manager were extremely helpful & easy to contact. Location afforded multiple opportunities for adventure & long meandering walks with the dog. Van Cleve Park directly across the street, is extensive & on the waterfront/ beach. Also took a couple of day hikes before our arrival & while staying at nearby Days River Natural Area. You will not be disappointed in this property.
My family and dog stayed at the Eagle's retreat for a few days and we loved the location, across from park and beach and easy access other areas. We really appreciated being able to park in the garage and having access to all the bikes and yard games was a huge plus. Kitchen was a good size and had lots of things provided. Very easy to communicate with owners. Would definitely recommend
They were welcoming, and made our fur babies also feel welcome, Boo and Zoey, our dachshunds. We love the beach and the park, which are just across the street. We slept well, the location was quiet.
We enjoyed our Monday to Friday in Gladstone. Location across from the park and bay was perfect. My daughter loved exploring town and the surrounding area. It's conveniently located to so much to do in the UP. We would definitely stay here again.
We've stayed here a number of times and it's always great! There were some nice upgrades like new flooring and patio furniture this year which we enjoyed. Thanks for another great visit!

Always a pleasure to host you, thanks so much for being our guests!
We just spent 4 nights at The Eagles Retreat and it was perfect for our needs, quite possibly the cleanest place we’ve stayed at! It was great being able to walk directly across the street and be in a park with access to a beach. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay.
The house came stocked with many things that my kids (10, 7, 5) were able to play with and enjoy. Kids Kingdom, even in the winter, was so much fun. Will absolutely stay again if it is available next time we are in the area.

About the host
Hosted by Ron
Ron is a native 'Yooper' with roots in the Gladstone area. Although he moved away more than two decades ago he and the family make the trek from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to visit several times per year. The cottage is a perfect place to unwind and take a break from Ron's hectic work schedule which has him traveling all over the world through most of the year. Ron and Katrina have a total of 4 kids who love to spend time at the cottage as the location is perfect for kids. Gladstone is also a very friendly town where you will immediately feel welcome as you explore all that the area has to offer. In their spare time Ron and Katrina love to travel to exotic locations. Ron is a musician and guitar collector while Katrina enjoys puzzles and volunteer work.
Why they chose this property
I have had my eye on this property since I bought the "Little Bay Getaway" in 2007...which is just a few houses away. When I saw it was on the market I immediately bought it. It is a historic home that has been in the same family since 1900 so it was a unique opportunity to acquire it. The location is perfect, and property is great for a summer hangout with a large front deck and a covered patio attached to the garage. In the winter we really enjoy the lake view and the large stone fireplace.
What makes this property unique
The location is great because Van Cleve Park and Little Bay de Noc (Lake Michigan) are just across the street. The park is beautiful and it offers everything from a public beach (where the water is actually quite warm due to the shallow bay) to a kids playland, to a new public fishing dock. The park also has the trail head for the new Little Bay de Noc Trail which follows the Lake Michigan shoreline. Feel free to use our bicycles to explore the area!
Little Bay de Noc is known as one of the best Walleye fishing areas in the country and there are local charters available. In the winter you can enjoy the Gladstone Ski Hill which also offers tubing, and snowmobiles are allowed on city streets to allow easy access to the extensive trail system. Gladstone is a small town with friendly people, local restaurants and a charming downtown with local specialty shops. It's also just a few minutes from Escanaba which has some great places to explore!
The cottage itself has a great fireplace that add a "cottage feel" year-round. It also has a Japanese-style bidet seat in the bathroom that is a luxury discovered during Ron's frequent travels to Asia. You will want one once you try it! We also have central air conditioning which is uncommon in Upper Michigan.
