Detached Holiday Home in Outeiro, Nr. Ansiao/Pombal /Penela, Silver Coast, Portugal - Superb Nearby River Beaches, Restaurants Bars And Shops 5 Minutes Away. The pool and the villa are for your exclusive use. They are not shared by any other party!
This detached villa with private swimming pool is near to excellent local facilities including Aqua Parks & many superb river beaches. It stands in a quarter acre garden of immense character with huge limestone rocks + ancient olive, fig and bay trees providing shade for long lazy days with the fridge close to hand! The 6 metre ‘Wall of Glass’ in the lounge opens onto a full length balcony with breathtaking views over the garden to the hills beyond. The villa occupies a private and peaceful location on the edge of the village of Outeiro yet is only a 5 minute drive to shops, bars, restaurants & a 40 minute journey west through a beautiful landscape of vines, orchards & olive groves to the stunning resorts of The Silver Coast. You can also venture into hidden valleys and bathe at one of the many river beaches for which this area is famous, or away into the mountains where stunning views seem endless, ancient villages cling to steep hillsides and towns nestle beneath medieval castles.

Swimming Pool environment, Garden & Barbecue:

Imagine…. relaxing on a warm summer day. Water cascades gently down a huge limestone rock, mixing with the soothing sounds of birdsong & the murmur of rustling leaves from a nearby bay tree….

To maintain the beauty of our natural landscape we worked closely with a local pool construction company to create a special environment - peaceful & tranquil. The family friendly pool area has 2 pools.

Our main pool is 8m long & 4m wide (26 feet long & 13 feet wide) Depth is variable 1.1m to 1.5m (3ft 6 inches to 5 feet) & is accessed via steps into the shallow end or swimming pool ladder into the deep end.

From here you can watch your children splashing around in their own separate, shallow 2.5 x 1.5m (8 feet x 5 feet) pool.

Both pools are fresh & pure, cleaned throughout the day by our filtration system.

Child safety is paramount. To achieve maximum security without spoiling the beauty of the pool we have installed a 1.1m high toughened glass safety barrier with a lockable gate.

FAMILY FRIENDLY, SIMPLE TO UNDERSTAND PRICING POLICY. Our children are now adults but we recall holidays we couldn’t afford because of very high prices during school holidays. We therefore decided not to inflate our prices to coincide with specific school holiday dates. For example, you won't pay more for a week at Easter during March or April than you would for any other week during those months. Inflated prices make it impossible for many families to enjoy a special holiday. Compare our prices; simple to understand & they won’t make you feel like you have been robbed!

Finally, for your peace of mind, Casa Bedrock has been awarded the Alojamento Local license number 19381/AL This is your assurance that we comply with the latest safety standards & regulations.

Lovely property in a very quiet and relaxed location. Excellent pool which the whole family enjoyed. Great comms with the owners throughout. Enjoyed a couple of David's documented walks, although the shepherds path was a little overgrown. Overall an excellent holiday in a great location.

Magical place. So very peaceful with gentle sounds of the Portugese countryside to sooth those needing a quiet break. The pool is excellent and very well maintained. David’s hand crafted guidebook is a real font of knowledge and well worth spending a good few hours reading - the only problem is trying to decide which of the various recommendations to try to cram into your time. The house is well appointed with books, games, DVDs and a fabulous living room with panoramic window and balcony. Beds maybe a little hard for some depending on your preference. David’s communication is brilliant. Quick to answer questions, clear with what to find where and checking in on us to make sure everything was ok. Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting to spend some time in a lovely out of the way part of Portugal. Close enough to civilisation to make a dash for wine but far enough away for stresses of daily life to melt away.

Communications, especially the questions that guests often have, should be answered promptly. Good communications works both ways. You were, in every respect, excellent guests from beginning to end. Thanks also for your comment regarding the comfort of the beds. Having installed an extra thick memory foam topper on the (king size) bed in the main upstairs room, we feel that the bed is very comfortable. However, in view of your comments, it is our intention to install extra thick toppers on all the other beds at the end of this season in readiness for our 2027 guests. Over the years we’ve discovered that Portuguese stores seem to favour and therefore to sell quite firm mattresses. Even the most expensive ones. Extra thick toppers provide the ideal solution. Thank you for your valuable feedback. It helps us improve. You will be most welcome back at Casa Bedrock.

Had a fantastic week here, villa was perfect for a family of 4 (kids aged 7 and 5). The property was clean and well kept, the pool was large and great for the kids to play in and the garden was beautifully landscaped with plenty of shady spots to sit with a book. Hosts were very helpful and the check in and out process was nice and simple.

Casa Bedrock is a haven of tranquility, situated in a delightful hilltop hamlet, just a short walk from historic windmills and ancient olive groves. You can see for miles! Upon arrival, you will find the house spotlessly clean and comfortable. All the equipment you may need has been thoughtfully provided. The pool is extremely inviting. We were staying there during the very hot weather and enjoyed late afternoons and evenings around the pool, where our granddaughter spent hours playing. We especially appreciated the pool shower and the air-conditioned bedrooms. The barbecue is splendid and all meals can be enjoyed outdoors as there is both shade and a large, sunny terrace alongside the house.Dave is an excellent host and answered all our questions immediately. His guide to the area was most useful. There are innumerable walks and drives to attractive locations within easy reach. Dave and Corinne have provided a wealth of DVDs , books and games to entertain a family. We only used two of the three bedrooms available but the shower off the third bedroom proved invaluable. (Larger families should note that the third bedroom has separate access from the main house so keys need to be organized if access is required during the night.) This was our first visit to Portugal and as a three-generational family of four, we have no hesitation in recommending Casa Bedrock for a perfect family holiday in the real Portugal.

HomeAway term is accurate

This property is tucked away in a tiny village, is beautifully quiet, has every amenity you want with a lovely garden, BBQ and pool for outdoor living. We were very happy here, and could have stayed longer without any problem! The countryside around is very scenic, and a short trip into the mountains provides spectacular views. An excellent venue!

Great property, calm and peaceful

We had a wonderful vacation at Casa Bedrock. We didn't lack anything and enjoyed the mostly very good weather, the quiet location, the clean pool and the very nice and well-equipped house that left nothing to be desired. We visited beautiful destinations from the guidebook every day and then cooled down and relaxed at the pool. The hosts were always very quick and friendly to answer any questions we had. We can recommend the property without reservation if you want to spend a quiet and relaxing holiday.

Beautiful location and well equipped house. The area is perfect for walks and hiking and the lovely garden would be ideal to relax and enjoy (unfortunately we were very unlucky with the weather). Quiet and wonderful

Very nice property in a small village. Great location for day trips to many sites. House was well maintained and well organized with everything you need.. property was stunning . Did not use the pool As weather was cool but it looked very inviting and spacious. Definitely recommend for those who like peace and quiet and a true feel for interior Portugal.

Peaceful location

The villa is very spacious and in a quiet location. The views are lovely. The villa is solidly built with thick walls which keep the space cool. This also means that there was a slight odour inside the kitchen cupboards. The pool was well used by our family. We used the guide book a few times to explore the surrounding area A car is essential to explore the area. The villa was generally clean, but the oven needed attention. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend. Thank you

We are pleased you felt that the the villa was clean. As many previous reviewers attest, it is something we always score very highly on. We were a bit surprised that you felt the oven needed attention. It is not something we have ever experienced before but we will certainly make sure that everything is OK for future guests. The slight odour in the cupboards is, once again, not something we (nor previous guests) have experienced. I am sure this was an isolated incident and might result from this year's unusually wet Spring weather. Our cleaning team do clean the cupboards as required and I have no doubt they have endeavoured to leave them in clean condition. Unfortunately, it might take a little while to eradicate all traces but future guests can rest assured that if any slight odour remains - the cupboards are clean. Once again, thank you for your excellent review. You were 5 star guests. David & Corinne

Perfect Peaceful Location

We are just home from a 2 week stay at Casa Bedrock & already want to return!! The area is very peaceful, perfect for relaxing. Our children loved the pool and spent nearly all their time in it. The villa itself is so well equipped. Wifi was great & kept everyone happy as well as lots of English tv channels. Air con in the bedrooms was fantastic & the villa itself stayed so cool even after day's hitting 30 degrees. The kitchen is well equipped & was easy to cook meals & with the added bonus of a dishwasher, or if you want to eat out there are many lovely restaurants within 5/10 min drive. Shops/supermarkets/banks etc 5/10 min drive away. The guidebook the owner provides or as we called 'the bible' was just amazing. It documents walks, shops, restaurants, days out etc etc, we referred to it every day! If you're thinking of booking, DO IT, you won't be disappointed!!

Stunning views and a pool to die for!

A beautiful villa with views over the countryside which never grow old. Loved lying at the gorgeous pool area while butterflies and birds kept us company. The villa has absolutely everything you need and the extras like books/games/dvds as well as british tv channels were all appreciated. Good bedding and super air con made sleeping easy. The property was spotless and communication with Dave was superb. Every email or call was answered almost instantly! Dave provides the most amazing guide book which we used every day. It is very obvious Dave cares about his guests and thinks of everything. There is a well stocked Intermarche in Ansiao, a Chinese shop which sells everything and a handful of restaurants within a 5 to 10 min drive plus a few even closer.The prices of meals in this area are ridiculously cheap and of great quality. Can thoroughly recommend the property and the area and wished we had been able to stay longer. Thanks for a lovely time.

Your comment regarding our swift response to your communications is very valid… In our opinion there’s nothing worse for guests than having to wait for an unresponsive owner. It doesn’t bode well for a smooth, trouble free holiday! As for all the other important little luxuries & our careful attention to detail - Corinne & I ask ourselves “What would make our holiday extra special?” We put all of those into Casa Bedrock.

Fantastic villa with a great pool

This was our first visit to Portugal and staying at the Casa Bedrock just made our visit extra special. The owners, David and Corinne are so lovely and kept us updated about our planned visit and provided us with a very detailed guidebook of the area which David had written himself. We have stayed in a few villas over the years and no owner has gone to such detail ensuring our visit was extra special. There was even milk and bread provisions for when we arrived! The kids loved the pool area and we spent the first three days at the house and enjoying everything it had to offer. When the kids had had too much sun they played the board games provided and watched the entire Harry Potter series of DVDs also provided with many other films! Without the guidebook we wouldn't have discovered the river beaches or the amazing San Simaou swimming 'pools' a mountainous relaxing river beach with fresh water swimming pools. We met some lovely people here but more than anything as a family we loved being at the villa. We will definitely be returning again but if you're reading this review wondering if this Villa is worth a booking... Book it ! You won't be disappointed in either the villa or its owners! Wij hebben een fantastische vakantie gehad in Casa Bedrock. Het huis is prachtig, zeer compleet ingericht en voelt direct als een plek waar je tot rust komt. Alles was schoon, goed onderhouden en de keuken is van alle gemakken voorzien. Het zwembad en de buitenruimte zijn absoluut een hoogtepunt; we hebben er iedere dag van genoten. Ook de barbecue is uitstekend en ideaal voor lange zomeravonden.Wat deze accommodatie extra bijzonder maakt, is het contact met Dave. De communicatie was vanaf het begin vriendelijk, snel en persoonlijk. Hij dacht mee, reageerde altijd vlot op vragen en was oprecht geïnteresseerd in hoe ons verblijf verliep. Dat gaf veel vertrouwen en zorgde ervoor dat we ons echt welkom voelden.De ligging is perfect als je de omgeving wilt ontdekken, terwijl je tegelijkertijd volop geniet van de rust en privacy van de villa.Wij zouden Casa Bedrock zonder enige twijfel aanbevelen aan iedereen die op zoek is naar een comfortabel, sfeervol en goed verzorgd vakantiehuis in Portugal. endroit idyllique pour la recherche de calme, nature et ballades tres belles excursions à faire avec détails donnés par le propriétaire sur fascicule edité par lui (gros boulot) maison,piscine et jardin bien entretenu. Par contre, il y a beaucoup de chats, qui sont nourris par les vacanciers et qui gachent les premiers jours car il faut constamment les chasser. aux 2 portes de sortie, il manque une lumière

We recently returned from our holiday at Casa Bedrock and we're happy to say that the problem with the cats has now been resolved. A prior guest had been feeding the cats which then became a nuisance. It had never been a problem prior to this and will not be an ongoing problem. Fortunately, it was temporary and we respectfully ask future guests to not feed any cats that wander into the garden. During our next visit we will instal new lights above the two exterior doors that are not illuminated by the street light. Thank you for your suggestion. Merci Didier. Heureusement, c'était temporaire et nous demandons respectueusement aux futurs clients de ne pas nourrir les chats qui errent dans le jardin. Lors de notre prochaine visite, nous installerons de nouvelles lumières au-dessus des deux portes extérieures qui ne sont pas éclairées par le lampadaire. Merci pour votre suggestion.

Excellent séjour

Une belle petite villa isolée qui a du charme, calme et propreté. Prévoir une voiture pour les déplacements car nous sommes isolés de tout. Je recommande vivement !

Dear Regent. Thank you for your review and for being excellent guests. We are pleased to hear that the house was exactly as described and that you had an 'Exceptional stay'. Thank you also for watering our potted plants during one of the warmest April months on record! We are sorry you felt that the house had too much humidity. April was unseasonably hot following a period of wet weather. A big difference between overnight and daytime temperatures, though rare, resulted in higher than normal humidity outdoors and indoors. Although we've never had to use it, our air conditioning units have a dehumidifier mode. Did you use the wood burning stove? (If) you used the wood burning stove or electric heating in the evening without adequate ventilation this might have increased indoor humidity? Our instructions recommend opening a window to prevent this occurrence. We experienced similar weather during our visit in March - very warm days - cool nights, higher than normal humidity. In the evenings we heated the house to a very comfortable temperature using adequate ventilation and did not experience any problems with indoor humidity. Le mois d'avril a été inhabituellement chaud après une période de temps pluvieux. Une grande différence entre les températures nocturnes et diurnes, bien que rare, a entraîné une humidité plus élevée que la normale à l’extérieur et à l’intérieur. Même si nous n'avons jamais eu besoin de l'utiliser, nos climatiseurs disposent d'un mode déshumidificateur. Avez-vous utilisé le poêle à bois ? (Si) vous avez utilisé le poêle à bois ou le chauffage électrique le soir sans ventilation adéquate, cela pourrait avoir augmenté l'humidité intérieure ? Nos instructions recommandent d'ouvrir une fenêtre pour éviter cela. Nous avons connu une météo similaire lors de notre visite en mars – des journées très chaudes – des nuits fraîches, une humidité supérieure à la normale. Le soir, nous avons chauffé la maison à une température très confortable grâce à une ventilation adéquate et nous n'avons rencontré aucun problème d'humidité intérieure. Calme, confort et soleil

La propriété dispose de tout le confort. Internet, tv, spacieux, piscine, cuisine équipée, machine à laver, etc. David et Corinne sont adorables et toujours disponible par mail ou par téléphone. Le paysage est magnifique. En fait, tout est parfait.

Descanso e tranquilidade.

A propriedade é ainda melhor do que as fotos ou a descrição fazem antever. A casa tem tudo o que precisamos, espaçosa, limpa, bom serviço de wi-fi, sistema multimedia de entretenimento, ar condicionado. O espaço exterior bem cuidado, nada a não ser verde à nossa volta, zona da piscina impecável. Guarda sóis, camas, brinquedos para as crianças. Quanto aos proprietários, embora não estivessem presentes, foram sempre comunicando durante a semana, tendo deixado com as chaves, um guia da casa e dos pontos de interesse e actividades que se podem fazer na zona. Tudo muito, muito bom. Um local a regressar!

My wife Corinne and I have lived in Skipton in North Yorkshire for more than 30 years and have 2 sons & 2 grandchildren. We're surrounded by beautiful countryside so when we decided to look for a property abroad we were very hard to please. Like many people, we'd watched countless episodes of 'A Place in the Sun' during long winter evenings but never believed we would do anything about it. We initially looked in Spain but whilst visiting Portugal in 2007, we fell in love with this area, it's scenery, tranquility, friendly locals and of course the great weather. We wanted a property which was detached and private but not isolated, with great views, local amenities and good outside spaces. The property had to have character but also be modern, not much to ask then!

Why they chose this property

Although we like the sea, we also love the hills and river beaches. This location provides easy access to everything we and our family enjoy including the fabulous Silver Coast. We saw Casa Bedrock and the views from the garden on the Internet whilst it was being built in 2008. It is located in a beautiful conservation area where planning laws are strict. The developer takes great pride in his work and can only build on the footprint of earlier dwellings or renovate existing buildings which he does superbly and with great care.
Casa Bedrock was designed by a local architect who has created a unique property, even managing to incorporate some limestone features whilst retaining as much of the original character and old walls as possible.

What makes this property unique

Peace and quiet, great barbecues, family friendly pool area with lockable barrier, good local restaurants and lots of places to see and things to do, including a few walks, are what we require from a holiday. We work hard and play hard and therefore need a place to which we can retreat and feel at home. This is high on our list of essentials and we truly believe we have achieved it with Casa Bedrock. We love our 'get away from it all' villa and know that you will too!
