Le Casteras is a village farmhouse set in 6000m2 of gardens, mostly mown grass with plenty of space to kick a football around or play hide and seek in the orchard. There is also a trampoline and swing/slide set. The gite is situated at the end of the family house, overlooking the terrace and pool.
Guests are invited to share the use with the owners of their fenced large 12m x 6m solar heated pool (max depth 1.6m). The solar pool heating makes the property ideal for holidays from May to October . The gite has its own patio with table and chairs and barbecue for outside dining.
Situated in a small village next to the church, the property is ideal for exploring the area, bird-watching, fishing or mountain activities. There are some delightful, easy walks close by and a 1912m mountain for the energetic about 20 minutes away. There are also lots of activities for children within easy driving distance.
The village has its own bakery and restaurant. We are 1 hour from Spain, Lourdes and Toulouse and about 2 1/2 hours from both the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts.

Beautiful location with stunning views of mountains, clean and comfortable gite with friendly and welcoming hosts, and a great pool! Would highly recommend.
Our family had a lovely stayed at this well appointed property. A good base for exploring the Pyrenees, Alison and Mike are very nice hosts with good tips for where to visit. The house has everything you need as well as a decent sized pool.
We had a fantastic holiday at this house. Alison and Mike are lovely and excellent hosts. It is a super location to access lots of family friendly walks. Our children both loved the pool and garden at the house
We have previously enjoyed two stays at this gite. Alison and Mike are great hosts. The pool was lovely, able to swim almost every day. Our daughter and her family live in the general area and were able to visit during our stay. The children enjoyed the open space, the pool and the outdoor/indoor toys provided. We will no doubt be back, perhaps in the spring.
Alison and Mike were lovely hosts for our 4 weeks. They were always on hand if we needed anything and were a great source of information about the area.
The gite was really well stocked with everything we needed from kitchen items to kids toys and we were provided with lots of delicious produce from the garden. The kids loved having the trampoline and swings to play on and we all enjoyed the large pool, particularly on the hot days.
The village bakery had closed which was a shame but was probably beneficial to our waistlines. The restaurant in the village was fantastic.
It was a great spot from which to explore the local villages and towns and get into the mountains, particularly on the bike.

Amazing setting, huge and wonderful gardens, spacious and comfortable house
The photos of the interior don't really do the house justice: it is more spacious than you might think from the photos. The house is very nice and full of character (old stables conversion), the pool is great for the kids and the garden is a truly amazing space. It is huge and varied, with a children's activity area (trampoline, swings etc), an orchard, a kitchen garden and several open field areas. The owners grow various fruit and vegetables: our children enjoyed the freshly-picked strawberries from the garden. The setting is wonderful, with views of the Pyrenees and many walks and scenery in the vicinity. The owners (who are English) are friendly and knowledgeable about local activities and walks. Highly recommended.

Beautiful rural location. Property itself was nice but perhaps a little tired / indeed of update.
Overall was a nice October break. The weather was on the whole kind to us and we made use of the pool. The property was tidy enough and had everything needed. It seemed to lack a little maintenance and could do with refreshing / updating. We had some challenges with the main bed mattress which in our view needs replacing as several years old. There was a lot of flies also and we had to buy spray to kill them. It was a nice venue and quiet location just in the foothills of the Pyrenees. On the whole is give 7 out of 10. Thanks.
In a very small countryside town, but perfect. Quiet, except for birds, cows, church bells, and occasional dog! Remote but 10 minutes +- from three good resturants and a large Intermache. The Auberge in town is excellent. Pool which is solar solar heated was 28 C in mid Sept. Owners, Alison and Mike were perfect hosts. Available but non intrusive. For a tranquil getaway visit them. Everything was 5 Star.
We had a wonderful stay here. We loved the peace and quiet and the views were stunning. The mountains (walking, caving, climbing) were a short drive away when we wanted some activity.
Alison and Mike were welcoming and very helpful.
We have just got back from our amazing holiday in Rouède. I could not be happier with the gite; the views are incredible, the pool amazing and Alison and Mike made us feel properly welcome.
The gite was the perfect size for our family of 4, well equipped with all the essentials and then some. As previously mentioned the pool really made the holiday for us as it allowed us to relax and our girls absolutely loved it. I’m afraid our paddling pool will be a crushing disappointment to them now! Mike really looks after it and it’s always clean and ready for use.
Thanks to the great recommendations from Alison for places to visit we really experienced some of the most wonderful scenery and activities that we wouldn’t have even thought of. We even went to Spain for a day- well worth a visit to Aran Park.
You will definitely need a car if staying here as it is quite remote (which was exactly what we wanted) but it’s lovely to walk down to the boulangerie in the morning sunshine to buy fresh croissants and enjoy them with some of the delicious home made jam our hosts left as part of our welcome pack.
In short, we had the best time and would not hesitate to recommend Casteras to anyone thinking of visiting this beautiful part of France. We will be back one day!

About the host
Hosted by Alison and Mike Homer
Mike and Alison are English and have been living in France for almost 20 years. Mike was a teacher, and Alison worked at Airbus in Toulouse, but recently retired so now has far more time to enjoy this amazing area!
Why they chose this property
We decided to move to France in 2005 whilst our daughters were still young enough to learn the language. Alison formerly worked for Rolls-Royce and it seemed logical to move near to the aerospace centre of Toulouse. Two years research and many visits later brought us to Rouede. Within an hour of Toulouse and yet close to the mountains. Alison fell in love with the house as soon as she saw it, although it was covered in snow at the time and we had no idea what the views were like until we revisited in the Summer to make an offer. We have found the people in the village very welcoming and we have developed friendships over here. Mike enjoys walking in the hills and mountains and Alison is a member of a local choir.
What makes this property unique
The House is located in a very quiet and friendly village. The views and local walks sold the property to us. The weather is warm from April through to the end of October with a "hot bit" in the middle. September is a particularly lovely month to be sat out in the garden or in the pool. We usually can swim from April to the end of October. Winter doesn't really show itself until January and February, the winter season seems short here and we rarely get large falls of snow.
