About this property
Georgian Grade II Listed Town House Short Walk To Beach
Georgian grade II listed terraced town house located within the Elizabethan ramparts in historic Berwick upon Tweed; England's most northerly coastal town, which has changed hands between England and Scotland 13 times. Visit Berwick and discover what was worth fighting for. The town boasts magnificent views over the Northumberland coast. Many walks start from the doorstep, along the preserved town walls, the coastal path to St Abbs, or beside the river, spotting seals by the town's three bridges. Berwick's narrow streets are filled with individual restaurants, pubs, shops and on the outskirts lie the main supermarkets. A five minute walk to The Maltings Art Centre, for cultural theatre, music and films. A short drive will take you to the town's leisure centre with wave pool and flume. Behind the house there are tennis courts and an 18 hole golf course. The main train line station has frequent trains to Newcastle (50mins), Durham or Edinburgh (45 mins). Nearby attractions include Holy Island Lindisfarne 10 miles, and Alnwick castle, garden and it's tree house restaurant 35 miles. The house itself sleeps 10, large enough for an extended family, or to meet up with friends; with all five bedrooms en-suite, it is able to offer comfortable sleeping accommodation for everyone. The house is located in a very quiet street,as mentioned in The Times newspaper in 2014.
“ Located within the Elizabethan town walls and therefore an easy walk into the centre, but also backing onto a golf course and, beyond that, only a couple of minutes’ walk to the coast. Barbara Pentecost, of Smiths Gore, admires this quiet, gently sloping street both for its fabulous location and its “glorious” Georgian houses.” Best address: Britain's ten smartest streets, January 31st 2014
Due to the nature of the street EV charging is not possible at the property. There are plenty of public charging places in Berwick.

The property was in a great location in a fascinating town, with easy access to the coast and lots of places to visit. The Lowry trail around the town is well worth doing. The house is great for the dog - a path leads from the road, very close to no. 40, right up onto the ramparts and access to beach and harbour. We were 8 adults and the house was certainly large enough for us all, with very pretty, comfortable bedrooms and lounge. Very well equipped throughout and beautifully presented.

We are a mature group in all 8 of us stayed at varying times during the week and we had an excellent time. The cooking facilities are very good and we enjoyed every evening in the dining room having our meals. The washing machine and dryers were also very useful as we were completinh the Northumberland coastal path and got very wet a couple of days. 26th Mar 2016Mr Kevin McNally The location of the house was perfect quiet but within walking distance of everything.

Ravensdowne is an ideal holiday home for friends or family holidays get together. The fact all rooms were en suite was a huge bonus and the beds were very comfortable. The house was well furnished, warm and very well equipped. It is a lovely place to celebrate Christmas, with lots of room for everyone to eat together, we actually had 14 for dinner on Boxing Day! The location was ideal, very close to the town centre and the beach. We did a good deal of sightseeing around the local area.

We would really appreciate it if pets were kept to the ground floor. Many thanks
To help our brilliant cleaner we really have to stick to a Saturday change over day.

40 Ravensdowne is owned by Chris and Gillian Allen. We both work full time as teachers at local secondary schools in South Cumbria. Three teenage children.
Why they chose this property
Over many years we have found ourselves being drawn back to Berwick for holidays. We have stayed in many locations in the town. Ravensdowne is the best because the road is so quiet but it is just a few mins to individual shops, restaurants and Berwick's theatre. The best bit of all, is popping down to the beach; walking along the pier when the tide's in. When the children were young we'd take crab lines. As they get older we often alternate taking the train to Edinburgh or Newcastle each visit. For birthdays, we have taken them to Alnwick's treehouse restaurant, as a treat. Mostly we do family walks, our favourite being Coldingham Bay to St Abbs. The house had been a B&B, and it was very much an impulsive purchase. It's a great place and definitely a bit of a wrench for us to rent it out!
What makes this property unique
We love being able to walk everywhere, including the main line train station. It's easy for a week to slip by and to realise we haven't used the car. We shop for food daily, rather than a big supermarket shop like at home. The fruit and veg market stall has excellent produce. We like walking to a different restaurant each time we celebrate a birthday, alternately we can pass an hour just sitting in the window with a morning coffee and the newspaper. Some of us like browsing the vintage shops on Bridge Street, and some of us like to fish off the pier. We all like walking. I like a quick stroll round the walls after dinner to either see the sunset, or the moonlight on the estuary. I tell my husband not to look at his watch, to tell me if the tide's in. I like the surprise.
