About this property

Parsonage Farm Stables, with stunning views down to the sea

Parsonage Farm Stables is almost 1000 years old, the hayloft of a farm that has been occupied since the time of the Domesday Book. It's ideal for walkers and dog lovers, offering easy access to all the splendours of Exmoor. Red deer often visit the garden, much to the owner's dismay, and the gentle cluck of our tame chickens creates a relaxing atmosphere throughout the year. Stunning in Summer, with beautiful gardens, and reassuringly cosy in Winter. Sometimes you're above the clouds, and the feeling is rather special. It's not surprising that Coleridge wrote Kubla Khan in this little valley; you can sense the history today.

About the host

Hosted by Jeremy & Paivi Payne

Host profile image
Jeremy's family have been in the house since 1949! Today, Jeremy & Paivi Payne have been refining their holiday properties for several years, and are still trying to improve every week and year! After many good years with Cottages 4 You and Welcome Holidays, we're finally in a position to run and man the house for ourselves!

Jeremy is a former advertising copywriter and Paivi is a teacher. They have travelled extensively and worked for many years in Hong Kong. They are accompanied most of the time by the noisy Wooster, a miniature Schnauzer, and their troupe of chickens. Whatever you need to know about walks, restaurants and other local stuff, if we're around we're always happy to tell you! Oh, and you can order freshly baked bread and home made marmalade for breakfast from us, too!

Why they chose this property

It may be remote for some, but we absolutely love living up and away on the hill, far from the madding crowd. It can be wild in Winter, but that's part of it's charm, coming home to a warm supper and a cosy fire. In Summer, Exmoor can be almost breathtakingly beautiful - it's surely British tourism's best kept secret. Maybe it's time you discovered it for yourself!

What makes this property unique

For lovers of great walking, dark skies and beautiful countryside, there can be few places like it! It really is unique, a moorland gem - yet it's not too far from great restaurants, tourist attractions and shopping.
