Settlers Lodge sits within an area of outstanding natural beauty, universally recognised as one of the best and largest area's across Europe to view the night sky. On a clear night the stars and constellations are breath taking.
Settlers is located within Otterburn Hall Estate on an Ancient Battle Site ( The battle of Otterburn 1388). It is an exclusive park with a small number of other lodges. The perfect location to unwind, relax and explore the many sites Northumberland has to offer. Along its rugged countryside, you will find the world heritage Hadrian's Wall. Stretching 73 miles from coast to coast, it splits the landscape across some of the wildest and most dramatic countryside England has to offer, ruins of Roman forts and musemes are dotted along this area.
Stretching along the beautiful coastline, we have Bamburgh , Walkworth and Lindisfarne to name but a few of our many castles , all within easy reach of the Lodge. Should you fancy a round of golf Bamburgh Castle's golf club is often quoted as being one of the most scenic in Britain, with views of Lindisfarne, the Farne Islands, the Cheviots and of course Bamburgh its self.
A trip to Alnwick with its famous castle and beautifully kept gardens, and the wonderful tree house is sure to please all ages. Just minutes from Alnwick stretches the Northumberland Heritage coastline, wild and rugged, with beautiful bays, Beadnell, Seahouses, and of course the local kippers at Craster , a sensory feast to feed the soul.
The historic and beautiful Abbey at Jedburgh, makes a wonderful day trip being only 30 minutes drive away. The market towns of Rothbury and Hexham have plenty of pubs, shops and quaint local eateries. Outdoor pursuits are a huge attraction in the area and a favourite location for walkers and adventure seekers.
Within the five-hundred-acre estate you are surrounded by nature at its best. There are two lakes and the Otter-Burn in the grounds. Also an array of footpaths with stunning scenery and an abundance of wildlife close by. You may be lucky enough to spot deer, within touching distance of the lodge. Or the many and varied selections of birds including rare varieties such as buzzards. Red squirrels also frequent the area, so keep your fingers crossed you spot one on your balcony
Otterburn village is a few minutes drive away or a pleasant 20 minute walk along a footpath through the fields. The village has a castle, mill, café & village shop. It also has restaurants and bars, Le Petit Chateau is gaining national recognition as being the wedding venue to be seen at. Excellent property in a fabulous location if you’re looking for peace and quiet to get away from it all. We were lucky enough to have great weather and the deck area is a sun trap heaven. Would definitely recommend.
The house was exactly as listed and equipped beautifully. The kitchen and living area was very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and Karen left a thoughtful welcome oackage. The theee bedrooms were fine although not huge. We would stay again for sure.
We had a wonderful stay at Settlers lodge. Beautifully decorated and very well equipped! Loved seeing the squirrels around the garden! Set in a great area for walking and exploring. We enjoyed both the local pub and also a takeaway from the nearby pub. Both we would recommend. Cannot wait to come for a return visit . Thanks again!
What an amazing trip! From the minute we walked through the door we were blown away at how incredible this lodge was, with all that is going on in the world this lodge was perfect to just sit back and have a stress free weekend. Not to mention how great Fara and Karen were, they made our trip hassle free and had a welcome hamper filled with little treats waiting on the bench for when we had arrived so a big thank you to them! Such a homely property and will certainly be returning!
Really enjoyed staying in the cabin, clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Lots of information provided it was a great base for us whilst in Northumbria and provided a lovely place to relax!
My wife and I stayed in Settlers Rest from Sunday 3- Friday 9 July 2022 with our 10week old son along with 3 grandparents….it was a great place for us to relax but also explore some of the towns and coastal areas Northumberland has to offer.
Karen and Fara were excellent hosts to communicate with and very generously left a welcome gift for us but also for our newborn son - very thoughtful gesture!
The Lodge itself was spacious with large open plan area with kitchen and lounge. It was ideal for what we were looking for. The outside decking was also good for us all to relax and enjoy some evening meals and drinks. The hot tub was cleaned on daily basis and on the one instance when we felt it looked ‘cloudy’, Karen organised maintenance to sort it quickly. The only downside, through no fault of Karen and Fara, was that the Coach House was only open for 2 days during our stay from Sunday - Friday. William De Percy, however, in Otterburn is well worth going to for a meal or lunch - we did both! It is only about 10-15min walk into Otterburn. We also had a meal at Redesdale Arms in Rochester which was about 3mile drive - we had a very nice meal here also.
We would not hesitate on booking up to stay at Settlers Rest in the future.
Scott, Jill, Baby Ollie and Grandparents!
Lovely lodge which owner had decorated for Halloween!
Stayed with 3 generations of family for a wedding nearby but the lodge gave us the added opportunity of a long weekend in the country too, and the hot tub was an added bonus!
Well equipped and furnished, can’t fault the property.
A lovely spacious property, well appointed with good quality appliances and furnishings, Very clean and nicely decorated.
Karen was extremely efficient and lovely to deal with, there was a welcome basket. We even had chocolates, wine and card left for our 40th wedding anniversary which was a lovely gesture. Would whole heartily recommend
Thank you Robert, Lynne, Martin & Gina ..
We have just returned from our stay and we are missing it already!
The communication with the host was 5*.
The lodge had everything and more you could ask for and the outdoor space and hot tub were well enjoyed by us all. Our little girl loved putting food out for the birds and squirrels.
We wouldn’t think twice about returning - thanks for providing us with a fantastic stay for my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary!!
This lodge is brilliant 3 double bedrooms all of an high standard kitchen fitted with everything you might or might not need can’t ask for the wrong thing . Very peaceful and relXing wiry ver6 good pub/ restaurant on site Kren and Fara ver6 thoughtful with great communication throughout .
Not a bad word can be said about Karen for there beautiful lodge.
Quite literally everything has been thought about , not only that Karen was extremely helpful in providing us with information with uselful and interesting places to visit. Nothing was to much trouble.
We will most certainly be staying with Karen and team again.
Your doing a fantastic job keep up the great work, Karen.
Lovely to get away from it all at this beautiful lodge. Very clean and modern interior with all home comforts (although we had to buy a couple of pans as the ones provided were quite damaged) and loved the African themed decor. The welcome pack was a nice touch. Really enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings. Site very quiet but visited pub in village and Coach House on site. Location very rural and quite a long drive to visit some of the tourist spots such as Alnwick, Holy Island & Bamburgh. However can’t fault the lodge and the quick response of the owners to any questions. Overall a nice relaxing break during these challenging times!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the lodge, with most of our time watching the red squirrels and various birds. The lodge was very clean and had everything we needed/wanted. We hope to return in the near future. Thank you so much for such a fantastic holiday!
Female friends celebrating 50th birthdays put on hold due to Covid. Brilliant. From the outset communication with Allison and Fara was excellent. The lodge is roomy, contemporary and incredibly clean and comfortable.
Location perfect, right in the middle of dark sky country with some lovely walks. We did the Village loop on Saturday and really enjoyed the scenery.
Spent our breakfasts watching red squirrels and an array of small birds which visited the feeders. Every night we relaxed in the hot tub which was cleaned and maintained each day.
The other reviews are true it really was a 5* experience.
Two Coeliac in group, don't go to William de Percy try The Coach House on the estate.
Perfect lodge for a beautiful getaway to explore Northumberland!
Very clean spacious lodge with everything you need for family stay! The lodge park is private and quiet in woodlands but within walking distance to the local village. The hot tub and outdoor area was perfect! Good communication with the owners for booking, and any queries whilst there! Highly recommend for a family or a group.
Had a great time at Settlers for birthday celebrations.
The lodge is very well equipped and very clean. It’s in a good location. Saw red squirrel and deer. The hot tub was great. A welcome hamper and a nice touch of a birthday card and gift for my daughter. Would recommend.
Luxury is certainly one word for this property. It has everything you need for a relaxing time away. The hot tub was amazing! The place is beautifully decorated and comfortably fits 6 people. The beds are extremely comfortable. I would certainly not hesitate to stay here again.
An amazing lodge with a lovely owner. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a gift basket which was a lovely touch. The property was equipped to a high standard including the kitchen. The beds were so comfy and the place was nice, clean and tidy. We are already looking forward to returning and would highly recommend this place!
