About this property
The Annex- Family Fun on Sargeant Bay
Experience the best of west coast living and lovely ocean views from this sunny custom built 2400sf, 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home situated on a beautiful landscaped corner lot in a quiet and private neighbourhood. The house is directly across from a pretty beach access to a secluded bay. Enjoy the use of our complimentary kayaks and hot tub.
New for summer 2024. Six modern Adirondack chairs surround a gas fire pit in a newly landscaped part of the front garden. Enjoy a flickering fire under the stars with views of the ocean.
***As well as the excellent location, layout, design and amenities, the Annex is one of the few vacation homes with a 2024 short term rental license in Sechelt since the District and Province brought in new stricter STR rules****.
The lofted open plan is decorated with a tasteful mix of antiques, art and contemporary furnishings to offer comfortable spaces for both gathering or seclusion. The kitchen offers plenty of space for the serious chef along with some herbs, veggies or fresh flowers from the seasonal gardens.
Comfy beds with natural linens and duvets ensure you'll sleep well. Additional features include 50"TV, second TV in loft, TV in bedroom, high speed WiFi, and various work desks with a view either in the great room or loft
Sargeant Bay Provincial Park with a bird sanctuary and sandy beach at low tide is only 1.5km away. The upland portions of the park are riddled with trails for both mountain biking and hiking or get your thrills from the Coast Gravity Park or other trails up and down the Coast. Plenty of covered locked garage space for all your toys and gear. Parking for your RV or boat trailer too.
Aside from more active pursuits, there are aboriginal tours, golf, art galleries, restaurants or simply relaxing at the Annex with BBQ, lovely gardens, hummingbirds, large windows, hot tub or a cosy wood stove in winter. A fenced yard and deck along with the proximity to nature make the property perfect for dogs and children and a lovely place to chill with friends and family. Wifi and a large screen TV keep you connected while you're holidaying.
This is a very peaceful neighbourhood so we ask that you respect that by being as quiet as you can when outside especially when enjoying the hot tub (between 9AM and 9PM). This is not a party house.
The house is very central to all that the Sunshine Coast offers. Eight minutes from Sechelt, 35 minutes from the ferry, 30 minutes from Gibsons, 30 minutes to Madeira Park and Pender harbour as well as 50 minutes to the world famous Skookumchuk Rapids trailhead.
We are happy to use our local knowledge to help you plan a memorable itinerary tailored to your interests. Massage and chef services can usually be arranged with adequate notice.
NB: As per the conditions for STR in the District of Sechelt and the BC Provincial registry, we have an onsite host/operator who lives on the property. She resides in a separate independent carriage house suite, attached to the main Annex house. She has her own entrance and does not share any of your amenities or living spaces - you will have the entire Main Suite, gardens and grounds to yourself. She's a local gal and usually says hi and welcomes guests. She can recommend things to see and do in the area.

It was a lovely clean accommodation. Any and all questions were answered quickly and pleasantly leading up to our stay. We chose the property to accommodate our bernadoodle and for this alone i would book the property. There were a few different options for securing her in and they all served different yet great options. The actual area for walking is a little limited however a short drive away offers better options.
We've stayed at this property before and will certainly do so again. Our getaway was part company retreat/part friends on vacation - and the spacious home and beautiful surrounding areas were leant themselves perfectly to both.
Our family enjoyed our stay. The property is beautiful and plenty of room. It’s a bit of a walk to the beach but nice and private.

Thanks for the nice words. We have set it up for families for sure. The walk up from the beach is short but steep tho has nice stairs along with the path.
Loved the house! Secluded and private with a beautiful view. Close to town, groceries and restaurants. We had our furry friends as well and the fenced yard was amazing. This is our 2nd trip to this area and we loved it.
The annex was perfect for our group of 6. Bright, spacious, and had all the tools for fun meals in or outside. Hot tub was a nice touch we enjoyed. We hope to be back!

Thanks for your 5 star review. It was great hosting you. Hopefully we will see you again.
My whole family enjoyed a week on the coast. This was our second time at this property and coordinated our trip around availability. The amenities are fab and a lovely place to stay.
Relaxing Coastal Escape with All the Comforts of Home
We spent Easter weekend at this lovely property and had a fantastic time! It was the second stay for two members of our group, and it’s easy to see why they wanted to return. The location is perfect—quiet, with easy access to the beach—and the home itself has everything you could want for a relaxing getaway. There’s plenty of space for everyone, a fully equipped kitchen, and we especially loved the gated backyard and spacious deck—perfect for our dogs to safely enjoy the outdoors with us. The hot tub was a definite highlight, ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring the Sunshine Coast. This place is a gem and an absolute must if you're looking to spend quality time in a beautiful, peaceful setting. Highly recommended!
This is an absolutely wonderful property. It has everything one could ask for: excellent location, ocean view (we watched porpoises or dolphins in the bay from the dining table!), hot tub, wood stove, well-appointed kitchen, comfortable beds, lots of space. It was the perfect local get-away for our family over the holidays. I recommend it without reservation to anyone looking for a relaxing, comfortable, easy stay!

Wow! Pacific white-sided dolphins from the dining table. The Annex is a great spot to view marine mammals and vessels passing by in the Strait and an excellent well-appointed location. Thank your the 5 star review. Look forward to hosting you again.
Cheers, Heather
The place is awesome. Lot’s of luxurious space with modern conveniences and extras.
Our only disappointment is the beach access. This is steep as advertised, but a bit of difficult trek after a recent knee replacement.
the property was big ,clean and a great view off the deck. Close to Sechelt but quiet and relaxing. Only small issue was the futon in the loft well worn and uncomfortable to sleep on. Would recommend the property.

Thank you for your review.
The views are fabulous and the house lives large with space for the whole family. We will be replacing the futon as a couple of other guests mentioned it as well. Thanks again.
Cheers, Heather
This property exceeded all our expectations. The views were spectacular and the comfort and space for 3 couples and a small dog were perfect. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful. Personally, I wouldn’t bother going down to the beach as the walk down was very treacherous and steep - I would drive 5 mins and enjoy Sargent Bay instead. The house is conveniently located closed to so many great hikes and beaches as well as shopping. We requested an early access and Heathers graciously obliged - Thank you!The caretaker on site was lovely. We only met her upon arrival but knew we could contact her if any issues arose. We can’t wait to book this home again in the future!
The house is spacious, beautifully furnished and very well equipped. It provided us with plenty of room for preparing for our daughter’s wedding at Welcome Beach and gave us a very comfortable few days’ stay.

Thanks for your 5 star review. It was greast to host you and your group. Yes there is lots of room for families to spread out and it is very central to events up and down the Coast.
It was a beautiful property, clean with an amazing view and location. It had everything we needed. The enclosed back yard was perfect for our dogs and the hot tub had Ana amazing view over the water. The only thing was that the bed in the master bedroom was uncomfortable and the mattress needs to be replaced.

Thanks for your review. The view is very nice. Most people have been fine with the bed but sorry you found it uncomfortable.
My family had a wonderful time at this property. We were looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation and that's exactly what we got. The hot tub was great and the house had everything we needed. The kitchen and dining area were well appointed and the view was beautiful. We took advantage of the opportunity for lots of hikes and walks only a short drive away. We also enjoyed swimming in nearby Sargeant Bay. Thank you for a wonderful week away!

We're so glad you were able to enjoy the many walks, hikes and swimming beaches close by.
We had a wonderful stay, nice view of the ocean, very clean accommodation, large living dining area and the loft area was especially nice. It was large, had even better views of the ocean and provided a great second lounging area. We were a group of 7 adults, one toddler and 2 dogs and there was plenty of room for everyone! The kitchen had everything we needed and the master suite was luxurious. The large laundry area was great for the dogs, boots, and more. We hope to return again; many thanks!

Welcoming and very comfortable home.
The Annex is a beautiful property, spotless, well appointed and very comfortable. The personal touches of fresh flowers in the kitchen and master bed room were lovely to see. We are a family of 6 and like to cook. It was wonderful to have a full kitchen, bbq and a large deck to view the Straight while we enjoyed our meals. We enjoyed some of the many mountain biking trails accessible close to the house. On a great recommendation from Bob we found a local near by swimming spot to relax & cool down after a long ride. An outstanding property and we highly recommend it.

Thank you for the comprehensive review of the Annex. Glad you enjoyed the kitchen, views, trails and local swimming holes.
Cheers, Heather & Bob
The house is located in the perfect spot with magnificent views. Tastefully decorated . The kitchen was more than well equipped, which made it great fun to prepare our meals with the whole family. The barbecue was great to have as well.An extra bonus was the vegetable garden.
This is a terrific place to start exploring the area. Lots to see and enjoy around.
Would love to come back some time.
Unfortunately this system would not let me give 5 stars. Everytime I tried to, it would jump back to 4.
It deserves 5 stars !!!

Thank you for your five star recommendation. It is an awesome family house in a great location. The garden is handy to add herbs or veggies to your meals. Hope to see you again someday.

The house was wonderfully clean and decorated for the holidays, which was perfect for our groups stay over the new year. There is plenty of space to spread out for lounging, or to spend time together cooking/eating in the fully stocked kitchen. All of the bedrooms had very comfortable beds and ample space; there was plenty of room for two couples and a friend to stay (as well as a dog!). Bathrooms were very clean and had soap, shampoo/conditioner, etc. We made good use of the hot tub (which has an excellent view of the water), the wood stove, and the gated patio and yard is a bonus for furry friends. The house is very easy to find, with great parking options. It was really a perfectly maintained property, and communication with the hosts was a breeze - would 10/10 stay here again and recommend it to families, groups, or couples. Great spot!

Thanks for your wonderful review. You have touched on so many of the points that we feel make this such a nice place to stay.
We went with friends and we all loved it.
The place is beautiful, so clean, spacious and stocked with everything you could need. We even got to harvest some veggies and herbs from the garden.
Everything was amazing.
Our only exception would be that apparently we were too loud in the hot tub. As four mature adults chatting quietly at 4 pm, we were still too loud for the neighbors! Of course this is not the owners fault. But if you tend to be loud or want to be up late talking in the hot tub, this place might not be the option for you.

Thanks you so much for coming and for your 5 star review. It was great having such good guests. You are right, it is a beautiful space and location to enjoy all that the Sunshine Coast offers. We love having a hot tub for guests to enjoy. Chatting quietly is perfectly fine in the hot tub and our neighbours realize that so we really appreciate that you were so good about this. Thanks for pointing out that loudness and lateness in the tub is not an option for our particular location.

The Annex
The property is nice and the yard is very well maintained, the view from the hot tub is great. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. The bedrooms were spacious and the layout was great. We were 6 adults and 2 dogs and we had plenty of space. There were a couple of issues during our stay but the owner was quick to respond when I reached out. We did feel like the cleanliness could have been better.
The walk down to the beach is quite steep and the path needs some maintenance but it’s a very short trip to get down there. The beach is very rocky so not great for dogs but there are a number of trails and beach access points close by.
We very much enjoyed staying here for our 4 day trip with family. The house was very spacious and beds were really comfortable. We enjoyed the enormous deck and the hot tub. The master bathroom was especially large. Heather was a great host and was helpful with my questions. She provided us with an infant life vest for my 2 yr old. We did make the trek down to Cardiac beach and used the kayaks, but I would let others know - it is steep and challenging with young kids or older adults. When we went the tide was out, so it was pretty hard to carry the kayaks out to the water - the large rocks are not easy to walk on. Even the when the tide was in, you need to be careful how you step in the shallow sandy pool - it's like quicksand and I sank in to my knees. overall, we had a fabulous time and love that part of BC.

Thanks for the 5 star review. Your experience with the variation in tides down at the beach is valuable information for other guests. It's not something people are aware of if they don't live close to the ocean. Tide tables (online) can be a good resource to pick optimum times for beach visits. If not ideal for Cardiac Beach, Sargeant Bay Provincial Park is just down the road with easily accessible beach and other features for children, nature lovers or those with mobility challenges. The forested portion of the park is great for mountain biking, hiking, running, birding or dog walking.

This is a modern, like-new, completely equipped and furnished, immaculate place to stay.
Such a pleasure for my family to visit the Sunshine Coast from the US desert Southwest, staying at the Annex for 5 nights. The central location makes exploring up and down the coast easy. Heather and Bob were so welcoming, and added touches to the house that made it feel like home from the outset. Their black notebook of house instructions was helpful and complete. They offer great advice on things to see and do, and hikes to enjoy. Beds were very comfortable. The large deck was perfect for sitting, relaxing and looking out on the water. Internet access was fast and dependable. The neighborhood was quiet, and as the house is on a dead end street, there's little traffic. Wonderful windows facing the water view: part Sargeant Bay, part Straits of Georgia across to Vancouver Island. There is access across the street down a well-maintained trail to the beach and kayaks. We look forward to our next visit!

About the host
Hosted by Heather Newman
We bought the Pointhouse property in Dec 2005 as our future retirement home while we were still residing and working in Dawson Creek, BC. It was a successful vacation rental till Feb 2010 when we began a complete reconstruction of the main house and built a new guesthouse (Aerie) on the bluff above. We made the move to the Sunshine Coast full time in January 2011 living first in the Aerie guesthouse and finally in Jun 2012, the expanded and renovated Pointhouse. The Pointhouse operates as a boutique B&B most of the time but is available for select vacation rentals throughout the year as well as special occasions such as small weddings, meetings or other events. In April 2016, on the strength of our successful vacation rental track record, we decided to purchase the Annex to offer additional family and pet friendly short term accommodations on the Sunshine Coast. With the interesting guests from all over the world and a busy schedule of physician locums, retirement is still a ways off. Fortunately, life on the coast is a more relaxed pace allowing us more playtime, family time and travel opportunities. We've also taken up boating so even more coast to explore.
Why they chose this property
We love living on the Sunshine Coast and this home ticked all the boxes when we went looking for a second property. It's another great location mid coast only a 2 minute drive by car from our B&B, 7 minutes from all the services and amenities in Sechelt or by water a 10 minute paddle along the Sargeant Bay shoreline. Beautiful ocean views, convenient beach access, extensive mature gardens, quiet neighbourhood, great layout, quality construction and energy efficiency were some of the other selling points.
What makes this property unique
With a pretty beach trail directly across the street, this home has all the benefits of a high bank waterfront home without the hefty price tag or maintenance headaches of a potentially precarious stairwell clinging to a cliff. The views, gardens and well planned spaces make it easy to imagine ourselves happily living there too.
