Beautiful, immaculate villa, peaceful location, gorgeous pool, perfect family getaway
I stayed at the villa in August 2018 with my wife and three children. We had such a wonderful time and I could not fault the property at all.
The house was hard to find at first - sat nav takes you the wrong way so you have to go into Begaar village first and then out to find it. The drive is signposted from the road in a little hamlet just outside Begaar (use Google maps and you can see it from the air).
However, drive through the gates and you know you have arrived. The villa itself is really pretty; classic South of France style with the shutters and all. The gardens are lovely and well-maintained, and you can sit out at the front or the back depending on your preference. The house is set back and secluded, so you are not overlooked at all; in fact it is surrounded by gorgeous sunflower fields!
Inside, the house is immaculately presented and Jaqueline has left everything you could need: all plates and utensils etc. - kitchen fully stocked right down to cling film and bin bags! Just add food. Four bedrooms and two bathrooms, very neat and comfortable. Plenty of room for eight people, so a large household or larger family group can fit fine. There is a TV and DVD with a selection of movies and books in English and French, and games for the children such as Uno. There is no Wi-Fi at the property, which was no problem for us at all as it meant we had a lovely time bonding together as a family in the "traditional" way!
The pool area is equally fabulous and we spent so much time here during our stay. The water is perfectly clean and the surrounding greenery makes it sheltered, but being south facing it has the sun all day long. Bliss! There was even a big selection of inflatables for the kids to play with.
The location of the villa is also great for exploring the area. We visited Lourdes during our stay, only two hours drive. The sea at Biarritz/Bayonne is about an hour's drive and San Sebastian in Spain is only about 90 minutes away. Best airport is probably Biarritz, but you will still need a car to get to the villa. Not much in the actual village, but there is a small town, shops and a lovely patisserie just down the road for stocking the fridge.
The listing on the website says English is not spoken, but Jacqueline's son, Frederic, was on the phone to translate for us, so this was not a problem at all. If you send an email, you will get a response in English.
All in all, we had an amazing stay and I would heartily recommend it to anyone.
