Pathways Holiday Cottage a delightful 18th century stone cottage in Derbyshire.
Pathways Holiday Cottage is in a perfect location for exploring the historic buildings, pretty villages and the beautiful scenery of Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire on the edge of the Peak District national park.
This charming stone-built cottage dates back to 1703 and has retained many of the original features throughout. Beautifully decorated, Pathways Cottage is a real gem in the wonderful village location of Old Higham in Derbyshire. Offering a cosy living room with two wood burning stoves, a large kitchen/dining room with crackling wood burner and a wonderful range to cook on, through to a conservatory to relax in whilst looking out onto the cottage garden. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms and a beautiful bathroom with a shower and the all-important slipper foot bath to soak away your troubles.
Walkers will find many routes directly from the doorstep offering you the chance to explore this fantastic area. Close by you will find Hardwick Hall, built in the 1590s by ’Bess of Hardwick’ the second most powerful woman in England after Queen Elizabeth I. The jaw dropping hall is now open to the public through the National Trust and has a visitor centre with shop and coffee shop. Whilst visiting Hardwick Hall why not visit the estates original watermill, still in operation and open to the public, then enjoy lunch at the Hardwick Inn dating back to the 16th century. A short drive away you will find the delights of the Peak District, including Chatsworth House, the town of Matlock and Matlock Bath famous for its illuminations and Heights of Abraham cable car. For a nostalgic journey back in time hop onto one of the Peak Steam engines or journey back in time on one of the historic narrow boats on the Cromford Canal.
The towns of Chesterfield and Derby are just a 20-minute drive away, and nearby Nottinghamshire is also just 20 minutes away, here you can marvel in the famous Nottingham Castle or Sherwood Forest and go on a hunt for the infamous Robin Hood. Chesterfield is a must to see the crooked spire that is the centre of this historic market town. All in all Pathways Cottage will not disappoint and really does have something for everyone straight from the doorstep with golf and fishing available locally. Shop ½ mile, two pub’s serving food and one a la carte restaurant within Higham Farm Hotel open to none residents, all within 100 yards.
