About the host
Hosted by Chris or Nadia
The Priory became a hotel in the 1950’s and has been run by numerous proprietors over the past 70 years. Chris & Chris Rowbotham took over ownership of The Priory in August 2007 and undertook a massive 6 month refurbishment to bring it up to date.
Now run as a luxury large self-catering house hire (or Bed & Breakfast when we don't have house bookings), by Mrs Chris and daughter Nadia, the Priory has a stylish contemporary décor whilst maintaining a sensitivity to period features.
Why they chose this property
Our house is more than a house, its a home. We put our heart and soul into it on a daily basis and preparing it for our guests is an absolute joy. We have lived in the area since 2007 and we love what Herefordshire has to offer. There are definitely hidden gems here that are waiting for you to discover them.
Herefordshire is a great middle point for family and friends from North and South to meet. Why not escape the city and breath in the fresh air of the most rural county in England.
What makes this property unique
There is a vast history to our house! The Priory is a former rectory to the village church of St Mary Magdalene which stood on the site 1150-1877. When the church fell into disrepair, any parts that were salvageable were used to build a new church in the centre of the village of Stretton Sugwas. The house remained as the rectory until 1921, passed through numerous incumbent's, when it became a large family home before being turned into a hotel in the 1950's. The rest, as they say, is history. There are many period features within the building that we have tried to retain sensitively, whilst making the house feel modern and welcoming.
