About this property
Authentic, peaceful villa with private pool and a lush tropical garden (3000 m2)
Villa Merah is beautifully decorated by the owner, who is an artist. It is provided with all comfort and has over 200m2 living space. The villa in Pemuteran is within 1000 mts from the sea and at the foot of green hills. Water for a refreshing dive you will find in the private swimming pool. Suitable for 2 up to 6 people, 3 air conditioned bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, free WIFI, free water, coffee and tea, mountain view.
Villa Merah is located in the village, between the villagers. This makes you will experience the authentic Bali: their culture, their way of being and living. The nice staff will make your stay memorable. Putu is your host. He is there for all your questions and wishes. He has several day trips and excursions for you: a trekking visit to Bali's most famous waterfall, dolphin watching, hot springs, visiting Pemuteran temples, snorkeling at Menjangan Island, attending a Balinese ceremony, beautiful sunset in Bali Tower, horse riding for the little ones. Too many to mention! And about Pemuteran: no mass tourism but ecotourism.
Villa Merah is located at the foot of the nearby national park. The sea at Pemuteran is full of beautiful corals and beautifully colored fish. Pemuteran is set on a breathtaking bay of the Balinese sea, not yet discovered by hordes of tourists. On the tropical beach, umbrellas are unnecessary. The many trees provide natural shade. Sun loungers are there too to use for free if you order a snack and drink in one of the resorts that also manage the beach chairs. By foot from villa Merah you are within 15 minutes at the sea. Just follow the shady road.
About the staff. Next to Putu there is Ketut. She cooks, keeps the villa clean, arranges if you want breakfast, lunch and dinner too. There is a menu in the villa. Or ask Putu to take care of a barbecue. Nice, freshly caught fish or freshly bought fresh meat.
Then there are gardeners bapak Ketut and Kadek.
Ketut and the gardeners are in any case between 7 and 11pm and between 1 and 5am.
About the house. There are 3 air conditioned bedrooms, all with adjacent bathrooms.
Bedroom with double bed 160x200
Bedroom with two single beds 90x200
Master bedroom with double bed 180x200
And if necessary we place a cot (120x60).
In addition there is a lounge area with a bed (140x200). Sometimes it is used as a sleeping place for teenagers.
In the kitchen you will find everything: a 6-burner gas stove with gas oven, kitchen appliances, a spacious fridge and a water cooler with cold drinking water. Cook yourself or ask Ketut to prepare some Balinese delights of the menu. And of course there are plenty of restaurants nearby!
About the pool. Except for the deeper part (4x7), there is also a shallow round section. For small children, but also delicious for adults! At the pool are four sun loungers. Large towels are provided.
About the garden. The garden has many shady spots through the beautiful tall trees. There are several nice relaxing places to retreat, sleep or chat.
About Restaurants. On Pemuteran Beach there are excellent restaurants serving international delights. Indonesian, Thai and even Greek, it's all possible. There are also a number of restaurants and warungs in the street. Nice, original and simple for a fair price.

About the host
Hosted by Monica Keunen

In 2006 we visited the house of a friend in Bali, we completely fell in love. We decided to build also a house for us and our daugther. What a marvellous idea and great fun we had! Jan is an artist (www.janwils.nl), he designed the house and an architect friend checked the construction. With a folder full of ideas for the interior we came back to Bali. Since then we come to Bali regularly and rent our place who like - as we do - the authentic life and quietness of the village. We live in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
Why they chose this property
Villa Merah (means 'Red House') was built in 2007 by a local contractor and also the garden was done by locals. The grounds had to be developed, there was no electricity, no running water and a very poor road. Building time took around 8 months.
Pemuteran is a small village with a population of approximately 4.000 people. The people were moved to Pemuteran in a relocation project arranged by the government after the disastreous volcano eruption in 1963 when Gunung Agung erupted in the east of Bali. Over the last 15 years tourism has developed quietly with nice bungalow hotels on the little bay, home stays and some private villas.

What makes this property unique
We enjoy the authentic life here and the quietness. We love to visit ceremonies in our neighbourhood and help as a neighbour preparing food, making decorations etc.
At th road from our house to the sea there are traditional houses. It is a nice walk of 15 minutes to the sea, and once in a while we go by bike;-)
