About the host
Hosted by Susanne O'Brien
For more than twenty years, Lonsdale Palms has been a place of family memories, care and connection. What began as our much-loved holiday home has grown into a unique coastal retreat designed to welcome guests from all walks of life.
My passion for this special part of the Bellarine Peninsula comes from a lifelong love of nature, birdwatching and gardening. The property was once part of a historic chook farm, and its wonderfully rich soil has allowed me to create the peaceful gardens that guests enjoy today.
Following my husband's illness, I came to understand how difficult it can be to find accommodation that is both genuinely accessible and beautifully appointed. That experience inspired the redevelopment of Lonsdale Palms into a place where accessibility is thoughtfully integrated with comfort, style and warmth, allowing families and friends of all ages and abilities to holiday together.
I take great pride in sharing local knowledge, recommending favourite walks, golf courses, wineries and hidden gems, while ensuring every guest feels genuinely welcomed. My hope is that you leave Lonsdale Palms feeling refreshed, connected and already planning your next visit.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with Point Lonsdale many years ago because of its unique combination of natural beauty, peaceful coastal atmosphere and welcoming community. As a keen birdwatcher and nature enthusiast, I never tire of exploring the beaches, wetlands, coastal trails and nearby national parks, where every season brings something new to discover.
The property itself has a fascinating history, having once been part of a thriving chook farm. Today, the wonderfully rich soil supports the beautiful gardens that have become such an important part of the Lonsdale Palms experience and one of my greatest pleasures as a passionate gardener.
What I love most is that guests can enjoy the best of both worlds. Within minutes they can play championship golf, explore historic Queenscliff, visit award-winning wineries, walk spectacular beaches or simply relax in the peaceful gardens with the sound of birdsong. It is a place to slow down, reconnect with nature and create lasting memories with family and friends.
After all these years, I still feel privileged to share this very special corner of the Bellarine Peninsula with guests from across Australia and around the world.
What makes this property unique
Lonsdale Palms Retreat is much more than a collection of holiday homes—it is a place created with heart, purpose and a genuine desire to help people relax, reconnect and feel completely at home.
Originally our much-loved family holiday property, it has evolved over many years into three beautifully appointed private residences where luxury, accessibility and thoughtful design come together naturally. The inspiration for this transformation came from personal experience. During my husband's illness, I discovered just how difficult it could be to find accommodation that was both genuinely accessible and beautifully welcoming. That experience inspired me to create a retreat where accessibility is seamlessly integrated, allowing guests of all ages and abilities to holiday together without compromise.
Every detail has been carefully considered—from the landscaped gardens, nurtured in the rich soil of the property's farming history, to the fully equipped gourmet kitchens, luxurious bedrooms and inviting outdoor spaces designed for sharing meals, conversations and special moments. Whether guests are gathering after a day on the golf course, celebrating a family milestone, travelling with older parents, or simply enjoying a peaceful coastal escape, Lonsdale Palms offers the flexibility to stay together while still enjoying the comfort and privacy of separate accommodation.
What makes Lonsdale Palms truly unique is not simply what it offers, but why it was created. It reflects a belief that exceptional hospitality means anticipating people's needs, welcoming everyone without exception and creating a place where memories are made, friendships are strengthened and every guest feels they truly belong.
That philosophy continues to guide everything I do, and it is my hope that every guest leaves with the same feeling that first inspired Lonsdale Palms—a sense of comfort, connection and the simple joy of spending time together in a very special place.
