The hosts were very welcoming and the house was in the most beautiful spot. We saw the Aurora and spent our early mornings on the edge of the Derwent watching the sea birds, ducks and swans cruising past.

Slice of heaven in Hobart

Derwent Vista was above and beyond our expectations and a perfect base for our Hobart holiday. Extremely well stocked, conveniently located and with an unrivalled beauty and view. Everyone in our group was incredibly satisfied with their stay and I have already recommended this property to several family members and friends. Can't wait to come back down!

Love it

Property was pretty neat n clean. Hosts are very friendly even they helped me to catch my dog. Place itself is nice quite n lovable. View from house is excellent.

Property was not like the photos Property outside neglected Cabot find the front door or even access it safely Enter property via rear door Back of house facing the water is falling due to lack of internal support Rear deck at the back of the house is holding up by round wooden blocks Gardens neglected Lawns not kept green very dry and even dirt Owners live next door on the right hand side of the property which was not known prior to the booking Owners came onto the property to put sprinkler on what lawn was left Needs a safety review of house urgently due to building construction concerns if it claps Pictures online are old photos

Perfect retreat

Ideally located - quite yet so very handy to Hobart and surrounding attractions. House fully equipped and very cosy. Definitely recommend.

Location!

Loved the very private location, amazing water views, wildlife, and value for money. Close to shops, restaurants, MONA. Easy drive to the city and places like Mt Field, Richmond and Midlands Highway. Thank you to our host John.

Disappointing Experience

The property is in poor disrepair, carpets are stained & filthy, found dirty plates that hadn’t been washed in pantry. Windows are all filthy, hand railing on back stairs from deck is falling to pieces, can’t hold onto it for balance as it is loose. Tv & radio stereo don’t work properly,. Towels are practically threadbare, half the lights don’t work. Can’t access table & chairs at back of property near the water due to grass being at my thigh level. During our short stay as we left early, John messaged me to ring him to arrange to move beds during out stay as he was selling one of the properties, he is rude an arrogant. Thoroughly disappointing experience.

Comfortable spacious house.

Great view and wonderful to be able to take our dogs. Lots of off leash parks close by. Very relaxing.

Relaxing break

Lovely quiet stay, amazing views. Used lots of the available heaters. Couches in lounge difficult to get out of with our aged, arthritic knees. Ended up moving the dining table and sitting on the couch in that room, couch much easier to get out of.

Great views

Johns place had great views but lacked everything else. It is very out dated with furniture and fitting's, the lounge was torn and you were virtually sitting on the ground which made it extremely hard for my wife and my self to get up ( sat in kitchen instead). There was an aircon that did not work as well as the heater or though there were small heaters placed around the place. The bathroom had mould in it and smelt disgusting. The view was the only thing going for it.

Very enjoyable stay. Caught lots of fish from the back garden, and had fun with the kayaks.

5 nights by the river

property seems rather dated with stained carpets and worn out three piece suite. Metal pedal bin lid in kitchen is broken. New frying pan needed, non stick worn off. Beds were comfy and at last a place that has large enough towels to wrap around you after shower, well done. Lovely place to stay right on the river with rabbits running around the garden. John was very attentive to detail when checking in and also came to make sure we were ok. Carol & Barry Beckham

Thank you for your comments. Unfortunately many guests do not look after the place as well as I am sure you did. The bin for example was only purchased last year. coffee or wine is often spilt and we cannot afford to charge reasonably and at the same time replace the carpet on an annual basis. I will replace the bin again as that is within budget.

Ideal accommodation for our group

With a beautiful outlook through the back windows, the house soon came up to temperature (it was COLD outside) and provided exactly the right balance of comfort and space for our group. Location was great and we were able to make use of all the facilities on offer. A great relaxing stay and many thanks John

We thought the location of the property was great, and very accessable for visits to Hobart and the various attraction around. A nice quiet location on the river, the children loved the ability to go fishing. Good shopping close by

Great location, wonderful host

We had stayed here in 2011 and had no hesitation in booking in again. John is a great host, helpful when you need it and happy to leave you be when you don't. I used one of the kayaks that John offers and spent several hours paddling the Derwent backwaters. The house, while comfortable will soon be in need of a little renovation to bring it back to the same standard we enjoyed 5 years ago.

Relaxing Family Getaway

Beautiful location with stunning water views. Less than 20 mins from Central Hobart and Salamanca Market. Perfect home base for fishing and exploring Southern Tassie. We loved staying in the very comfortable home away from home. The owner of this property was most accommodating and very helpful.

Very comfortable and pleasant house. Some appliances didn't work or were not fully functional but nothing that stopped us having a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Only wished we could have stayed longer

I appreciate most of the nice comment. We try hard to provide everything a guest may need. It would really help if an appliance is not working if our guests told us as we carry a large stock of replacement appliances bearing in mind that most toasters, kettles etc. are made overseas these days and not very reliable. I am still at a loss as to which appliance was not working and would appreciate whoever posted this review letting us know!! Please!!
