About this property

Ready for Your Portland Adventure

Located near Reed College and the Woodstock neighborhood, the Reed Ranch is perfectly situated for visiting the kids at college or having an adventure of your own.

This light and bright basement apartment is newly remodeled with modern amenities throughout. Reed College and its lovely forested walking trails are blocks away, as is the Rhododendron Garden. Beer lovers will enjoy Gigantic brewery, just down the road, and the shops and restaurants of Woodstock, Sellwood and Division Street are all in close proximity.

There is a king sized bed in the master bedroom, and a queen in the second bedroom. Both bedrooms boast ample closet space for your things. The living room includes a cozy fireplace and the living room/dining room space is big enough that you could put up a portable crib if necessary. The kitchen is stocked with all you’ll need to make a meal. Don’t feel like cooking? No worries; Portland is home to some of the best restaurants in the country and we’ll happily point you toward some of our favorites.

Guests enter the basement apartment through a side door of the main house. If you are traveling with bikes or other large items, we generally have ample room in our garage or backyard for secure storage.

You get the best of both worlds: the space is very private and totally yours, and, we live upstairs so we’re always here to help, visit over a glass of wine, or make recommendations on things to do and see. We’re a busy family of four with a friendly dog; you’ll see all of us coming and going throughout your stay and you'll hear footsteps. This apartment is a great fit for folks with their own equally busy agendas; we're a perfect home base.

Our dog, Eddy, is a friendly scotch collie (think Lassie). She'll want to say hello to you before leaving you alone. Thus, if you are allergic to dogs, this isn't a good fit for you.

Just like coming home!
This was our second stay at this property and we were so excited to return. Our flight in from Texas was quite delayed, but I was not the least bit worried because I knew "our house" would be ready for us, and it was. We enjoyed using the fireplace to take the chill off, and I loved walking around the neighborhood - so many cheerful tulips and rhododendrons blooming. Once again, thank you for sharing your lovely basement apartment with us!

Lovely location in Portland!
The apartment was spacious and comfortable. The refrigerator was thoughtfully stocked with OJ, bagels, eggs and cream cheese. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to make a home cooked meal. Deborah and Eric were very nice and made us feel right at home.

Perfect Portland Pleaser
This was such a great place to stay. The basement apartment was clean, fresh, bright and roomy. We appreciated a few food items for us in the refrigerator. We did not use the washer and dryer for ourselves while there, but it was so nice to know we were welcome to do so. I enjoyed looking at the cookbooks in the well-stocked kitchen, and even purchased one while at Powell's. My only suggestions, and these are very minor, would be to fix the hand towel holder in the bathroom (it kept falling off the wall) and to add a full-length mirror to one of the bedrooms. I hope we can stay here again when visiting Portland. This place is a real gem!

About the host

Hosted by Deborah Kane

Host profile image
Your hosts are Deborah and Eric along with their children Zoe and Owen. Most often you'll be communicating with me, Deborah. I've spent most of my professional life working on food and agriculture issues. I am always, always thinking about my next meal. Eric is a nurse at OHSU. In a previous life he was a landscape architect. Zoe is a busy 10th grader, and Owen is an equally active 7th grader. Our dog Eddy is named after a river eddy. People hear "Eddie" and assume she's a he. Now you are in the know on that one.

As this is a basement apartment in our home, you’ll see all of us coming and going throughout your stay and you'll hear footsteps. This apartment is a great fit for folks with their own equally busy agendas; we're a perfect home base.
