Our Cottage on Conesus Lake

The cottage was cleaned and inspected before this guest’s arrival. Parking and lockbox instructions were provided in writing before check-in. During the stay, the guest did not report problems with the refrigerator, television, internet, temperature, beds, desk, railing, insects, doors, parking, or any of the other conditions now alleged in this review. These claims were made only after the stay, when a refund was demanded and denied. The guest then told us we would be “very sorry.” For those reasons, this review does not accurately reflect the condition of the cottage or the circumstances of this stay.

Guest feedback is taken seriously, and this stay clearly did not meet the standard expected for the property. The review omits important context. During the stay, only specific cleaning concerns, lack of toilet paper, and the porch swing issue were reported through the Vrbo message thread. Those concerns received a prompt response, an apology, and follow-up confirmation that the cleaning matters would be addressed with the cleaning team and that the swing would be inspected and repaired before future use. Several more serious claims now raised in this review, including the home being unlocked and broader condition allegations, were not reported during the stay. A direct emergency contact number was also provided in the arrival instructions, and to our knowledge, that number was not used. Had those concerns been reported when discovered, the opportunity would have existed to inspect, verify, and address them promptly. A goodwill refund was offered for the inconvenience actually reported. Legitimate guest concerns matter. So does timely reporting, accurate context, and the opportunity to correct problems during a stay rather than expanding claims after checkout. The cleaning checklist, supply review, and inspection process have been tightened moving forward.
