Very nice, clean, well renovated house with plenty of space for our party of 6. The kitchen is very well equipped to cook any kind of meal you can imagine, along with basic supplies like cooking oil, salt, sugar and some seasonings. Beds are comfortable. WiFi is fast. The area is super quiet. Not much in the immediate area and towards Gros Morne in terms of groceries, so better to stock up in Deer Lake beforehand. Overall a great vacation rental to explore the area.

We had a wonderful stay at Alder House. Neil was an excellent communicator. The house itself was very clean and well equipped but not cluttered. Everything was in great condition. It felt like a real home while we were there. The location was excellent, just 7 kms from Grose Morne park gates. There is a lovely little restaurant down the road just inside the park gates called the Wild Frontier Bistro. Would happily stay there again. WiFi also worked great.

Neil is a very accommodating host. He was always available for inquiries. Alder House is a good location for exploring the area as the TCH is very accessible. It is on a quiet side road. The house is not on the water, however there is access a short walk down the road. The house is well equipped with all the conveniences needed for an extended stay.

Wonderful location for gateway to Gros Morne

This was a very clean, quiet home with a great location for easy access for day trips to hike Gros Morne! Neil was quick to reply with any questions. Would stay here again.

Tranquility

Helpful check in guide provided, easy to use and well laid out kitchen. Lovely spot. Downstairs shower has an elevated showerhead, which was very appreciated by the tall members of our group!Lots of warblers in the forest around the home, if you’re a birder - even a couple of rare ones during the breeding season! Very lucky

The Alder house was just as advertised. Everything was comfortable, clean and quiet. The location was convenient to our travels although the road in needs work. The owner was very responsive to my minor questions. We would absolutely stay again.

We stayed at Alder House for the Gros Morne Hiking Festival and although the Festival didn’t recommend this area, we found it perfect. It was a 30 minute drive to to the Water’s Edge, Festival Headquarters in Woody Point which was no hardship because it was stunning! We were awestruck just driving in to the Festival. ( plus being close to the Jackladder for a turkey mess and a Day Boil was the bomb). Alder House is absolutely perfect for 3 couples with 3 bedrooms, all queen size beds. It has a fully functional kitchen and the living room was a comfy spot for talking about our adventures. Really nice spot. Thanks Neil.

perfect stay for visiting researchers

This is the second summer that I have stayed in Neil's property on Old Road, along with a crew of fellow environmental scientists working in the park. The house was absolutely perfect for our needs, as we were all heading into the park every day for fieldwork: close to Deer Lake for supplies, close to all the sites in the park we needed to access, and on a lovely quiet road. The amenities in the house were also perfect for us (e.g. the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry) given that we were a group of adults all doing our own washing and cooking. Neil was extremely communicative and helpful with any and all questions I had. In short: perfect stay, and I'm sure I'll be contacting Neil again for more trips if we do more work in the park in future!
