This is a great house for families. The game area down stairs was perfect (a toilet would be even better). Check in info was sent early to help with planning. Good location but we chose it as it was close to our son. Will plan to stay here again.

Hi Tami! Thanks for your kind review! We live that game room too :). I agree, a toilet would be nice in the basement. We are saving our pennies to put one in, so keep an eye on our post in coming years!
The house is very unique, spacious, comfortable, clean and kid friendly. Check in was seamless, the kitchen had all needed appliances and tools/gadgets. It made for a wonderful space to enjoy family time and our vacation to Lake Michigan!

The perfect property! It was beautiful and so well kept. Great location. The host was so great to work with and we'll definitely book again for our annual beach trip. Everyone had their own space and privacy.

Large house that accommodated our group of 9 easily. Large beautiful backyard with plenty of space to roam. Quick responses from owner who was very helpful. Close to the national and state park.

From the owner: "Hello! We are so glad you enjoyed your time in the home and around the area. We hope to see you again soon."
We had a great weekend at this property. The house is really clean and well maintained. I especially loved the original deco tile in the 1st floor bath. The bedrooms are roomy and the beds are really comfortable. 2 full baths was helpful for our family of 4. We enjoyed the game room together. There's plenty of room for everyone to spread out and hang out. Chesterton is a very cute town with shops and restaurants. We ate out several times and everything was great. There was even a craft fair in the central square the weekend we were there. The house is also close to Indiana Dunes National and State Parks. Beachfront and hiking trails within minutes.

Exceptional home
We were very impressed with this home! It was very clean, inviting, and accommodated our large group. The host was very communicative and friendly. We will definitely use this home in the future.
This property is great! Beautiful inside and out. The only thing the group recommended was including that the shower is on the second floor:)

From the owner: "We love the charm of old home and comfort of new amenities too! Thanks for staying with us."
The house and yard very spacious. They had everything you need for cooking. The ping pong table is always a must when we rent. They had a lot of games for indoors and out. Close to the beaches. One beach had handicap access which was helpful. The management team was easy to get ahold of and very quick to respond.

Great location! Close to parks. Lots of games and activities for evenings and rainy days. Many more amenities than we expected.
Bunk room is the only bedroom in the basement and there is only one bathroom shower (located in 2nd floor bath).
Overall a good setup for a large group.
The check in process and communication with the host was effortless. The house was very clean and tidy and well equipped however no bathroom for the basement bedroom. No shower on main floor.

Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy
The host communicated well with the booking process, questions prior to our stay, and was responsive to communication regarding concerns during our stay. The space overall was clean and as described. It was very upsetting to find a dead mouse and dead bugs (appeared to be cockroaches) on a sticky trap in the middle of the basement family room. We later noticed a sticky trap filled with bugs (again appeared to be roaches). I contacted the host and she was very kind, apologetic and horrified at what we had found. She asked how they could make it right and we thought it would be fair to have the cleaning fee refunded and one night’s stay. The cleaning fee was refunded but we were disappointed to not have one night’s stay refunded. Due to the bug situation we did not fully utilize the basement for sleeping and recreation because many family members were uncomfortable in that space due to the dead mouse and especially the roaches. We would have felt more comfortable with a response from the host that indicated that the problem with the bugs/roaches was going to be remediated, so that others would not encounter this same situation.

From the owner: "Thank you for your review. Our cleanliness is essential to us, and our precautionary winter sticky traps should have been removed before your arrival. The traps collect beetles and other critters that could enter this old house during the winter - luckily, no roaches! In addition to the emergency response, cleaning, and disinfecting you witnessed, we have addressed the issue with our cleaning team and will ensure a better experience for future guests."
This charming older house is not far from the Indiana Dunes parks and just a couple of blocks from an excellent Italian restaurant (Lucrezia) and its shop. If you wish to cook, the kitchen is well equipped. The beds are comfortable. For us, the best part of the house was the back yard, delightfully shaded by a couple of beautiful old trees and equipped with a substantial table and chairs where we ate both breakfast and dinner and hung out until dark. Because of the house's age, the stairs to the upstairs bedroom and the basement are steep so people who are unsteady on their feet might want to stay on the main floor.

Ok stay
This place is really not kid friendly. Lots of steep steps, back yard was in the process of getting an updo, so the kids did not play much out there. Rocks were the pathway, so not as easy to walk on. Would have expected a hairdryer somewhere in the house. It was ok, but really was not a great place for our family. Was expecting more for the price. Only 1 tv for the whole house? We left a day early

Response from VrboOwner on 15 Aug 2023
Hi Regin, we followed up with the homeowner after reading your feedback, and they wanted to share the following: Our goal is to ensure that our guests have an exceptional stay with us and provide high standards of hospitality. We are sorry to hear that you did not have the five-star experience we endeavor to provide our guests.
- Our family-friendly house features a range of amenities, including entertainment options like foosball, table tennis, and a TV. We offer toys, books, and board games for all ages in the family room. For younger guests, there are kid dishes, a pack-n-play, and baby monitors available. Outside, enjoy a badminton net, rackets, and bocce ball. Decorations are placed out of reach for toddlers' safety.
- In regards to the stairs, the loft and basement are accessible through stairs, clearly visible in the pictures. Both sets of stairs are equipped with a pocket door at the top for closure. However, it's important to note that the stair design does not allow for the installation of baby gates at the bottom of the stairs.
- As we value the condition of the property, we can confirm that the pathways are made with different materials, including gravel, mulch, brick, and pebbles. The backyard underwent landscaping changes a week before your stay, and we informed you about these modifications. Although the grassy area for badminton remains open, we kindly asked you to stay on the designated path while the newly seeded area establishes itself.
We want our guests to have what they need during their stay. There is a hairdryer available in the master bathroom and we will purchase one more for the main floor as well.
- We aim for transparency and our listing and photos are accurately advertised. Guests can enjoy a single television and a variety of amenities, all within a tranquil atmosphere.
We truly do all we can to make the best possible stay, and we look forward to this property hosting many satisfied guests.

LOTS OF SPACE FOR THE PRICE
Our group had a cornhole tournament up in the area. Unfortunately I grew ill just days before departure and I was unable to attend, but my husband did. He was in charge of making sure the rules were followed and the cleanup was done. He said that there were no complaints from anyone about the house, definitely big enough for them. He did state he wished there was more then one shower, but that there was a tub. With 12 people it was hard for everyone to get in a shower. He mentioned it is an older home but the layout was neat. We were concerned with the parking, tried to carpool as many as we could to avoid too many cars, plus we had a trailer for the tournament as it was a tournament we ran. He said everything worked out perfectly and everyone was happy with their stay. He did say all we really did was sleep there, so the house barely looked like it was used. Thank you so much for an easy stay, and we will keep it in mind for the next one.
The house was clean, well stocked and very organized. The location was great for going to the beach at Indiana Dunes State park. A nice touch was the soaps, shampoo, conditioner and lavender bath salts in each bathroom. We really enjoyed the ping pong table and games and the back yard area was very relaxing.. We enjoyed our stay and it was a great place for our short family beach vacation.
