Calm and Comfortable
We received a warm, friendly,& helpful welcome from Sabine & Didier at the start of our holiday. A very comfortable, light& spacious house in very attractive setting. The choice of sitting areas both inside and out were appreciated. Wi-Fi was excellent & the T.V's of a very good quality ( unlike some holiday lets!)
Guests should maybe be made aware that the bathroom and toilet is downstairs and also that the main bedroom has no wardrobe or hanging space.
Overall we thought the house was very well equipped and maintained but perhaps it is time to clear a few of the kitchen cupboards of old, unused (?) odd utensils and maybe update basics e.g. Put in a wooden spoon, tin opener, small knife for fruit and veg, and a chopping board and bread board. None of these were there. Also some new saucepans and lids would improve the kitchen. Crockery & cutlery were plentiful and nice to use( again unlike some properties) & the coffee machine was excellent.
The supply of hot water was excellent as was the shower.
Visitors should maybe be aware that access to the garden involves going out at the front of the house, down steps and round the house, remembering to take the key with you! It would gave been nicer to step out at the back - but that is maybe a minor point.
The area was very nice and of course ideal for nature lovers. Villages were attractive but not very lively and none had bakers. It is worth saying that while we were there in late June/ early July a bakers van came to Sturzelbronn Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday... NOT everyday. We missed him all the first week despite listening for the hoot but once my husband found him he said he was happy to come to the Gite when he knows guests are there. We also found out ( by going and asking) that bread is available at the Muhlenbach campsite about a 10 minute walk, from 9 a.m Friday & Saturday ( maybe more in high season?)
It would be good to have a guest book at the gite so that visitors can make recommendations of eating places, visits, walks etc.
A lovely house to stay in ( good heating when cold) and a very enjoyable holiday with helpful owners next door who respect your privacy. I recommend it!
Eating in nearby Ludwigswinkel ( Germany) was excellent...Zum Landgrafen.
