About this property
1ST FLR APT Your Private Resort, now FAMILY-ized: 1 BR + LR suitable for 2 kids
*Hot tub/fire pit/pool! Hike our woods to deer trail along the river! Over 80 eateries within 15 mins! Enjoy winery/craft beer/farm/market visits; easy to moderate hiking; world-class indoor ropes course; indoor sports/gaming center; trampoline park, much more. Near aquarium, kids' attractions, museums, concerts, nightlife, LIS boat tours.
*We are still the ultimate couple's, private getaway, but we're making it easier to bring the little ones for a low-keyed, but fun-filled vacation. When you're not enjoying our outdoor amenities that include a play set, relax in your very own home theater with 66" HD Smart TV. Full kitchen has all major appliances and assorted small ones. It is fully supplied for preparing full-course meals.
*Private entrance is off a ground floor mudroom accessed directly from outside. The bedroom features a very comfy queen bed and the living and dining areas can hold two twin air mattresses for the kids. Both the LR and BR can hold the full-sized crib. Please note that dining table only seats two, but TV tables and a high chair are available. Note that adding additional portable beds significantly reduces the floor space! Some families have opted for their kids to sleep on the couch and love seat in sleep sacks we provide. Also available: a portable crib, high chair, baby monitor (think "hot tub" use), stroller, baby backpack and toys are available.
*The front yard has a play set, bocce court, horseshoes, charcoal grill, and dining set. Guests may use these facilities without any notice to us.
*Backyard has a three-level deck, swimming pool with lounge chairs and umbrella table for four or more, hammock, gas grill, picnic table, outdoor living room, and a screen porch with hot tub. We'd like to preserve your privacy so please let us know when you plan to use these amenities.
* On the north side is a fire pit with seating, and a hammock further up in the woods. If you are uncertain how to light a successful fire, don't hesitate to ask. Written assistance is also located in the ammo box located in the wood bin.
*We have our own private "daily" deck and a top-floor deck so you may never see us! All outdoor spaces are accessible to our guests, with the exception of the aforementioned private decks only accessible from our house..
*Prior notification is requested for use of the hot tub and gas grill; and pool whenever you expect to spend a significant part of the day in and around it. When in doubt -- ask!
*Fee for an approved dog is $15 per dog per night. Please request a copy of and agree to the doggie rules; and tell us something about your pet.
*Our neighbor's construction of the 6' chain-link fence has dramatically reduced any "foreign" animal visits (as have our dogs) we still have deer, a rafter of turkeys (including two huge toms in the spring), an abnormally large and jaunty red fox, a pack of coyotes, a rarely-seen bobcat, and birds of every feather, including woodpeckers, owls, and vultures. Oh, and squirrels, chipmunks and rabbits! So, please don't let your little dogs out unleashed very early in the morning or into the evening.
*2024 update: Black bear have been seen routing through garbage cans at the southern end of the greenspace/river that we face., but no people encounters. Black bears are generally non-agressive and will most often leave an encounter with a human, if possible. Do NOT run away!
*Bus, rail, Uber, Lyft and Enterprise Rental cars are all available, as are grocery, restaurant, and pharmacy delivery.
*Check out our website www.ourcountryproperty.com for local activities and sample eateries. Please confirm hours and days of operation.

About the host
Hosted by Pat
"Not all who wander are lost." Although we have been occasionally accused of not being able to find our place, we always come back to Connecticut! Oh, a grandchild is a powerful magnet and the reason we bought this amazing property. We are a photographer -- writer/producer team, supposedly retired, about to embark on our next project once we put the finishing touches on our home renovation. The latter isn't progressing as quickly as it might as we are easily distracted just enjoying this wonderful property!
Why they chose this property
Well, porches, decks, balconies, woodlands, rock outcroppings, spectacular views, parading wildlife, a sense of seclusion, and 38 solar panels; who could ask for anything more? Oh, the lowest taxes in Fairfield County and being 10 minutes from 99% of everything we need (including our granddaughters) doesn't hurt either! Did I mention the swimming pool with it's hidden under-deck? Trés cool. Well, we recall the adage that you never want to own the most expensive house in a neighborhood, but just maybe that is why we could afford it in the first place!
What makes this property unique
I think I've somewhat covered the unique benefits, other than the flexible layout which was extremely conducive to our plans which are somewhere between totally unknown, and those that often change over night. It also was a challenge to cure all the faults that had been somewhat intentionally built in to the property. Like the fact that the only way to the garage was through the apartment; and that the backyard was really in the front yard meaning mud-caked children had to enter through the formal vestibule rather than a proper but non-existent back door. And, in fact, that all manner of icky or heavy things had to take a rather long and strenuous journey just to get inside the house through any of its many doors, all of them placed for graceful living rather than practicality. So there you have it. We're still grappling with what to do with the toilet in the under-deck and an upstairs foyer the size and shape of a good-sized master bedroom, but it's all good.
