The flooring is a sustainable art paper floor featuring inlaid fall leaves from the property. Originally built by and home to a young Amish couple that moved to Minnesota with their growing family; we had the cabin moved to our farm on the foot of "the big hill" back in 2005 when we updated it to have electricity, appliances running water. We have an on-demand hot water system for limitless hot water, so feel free to fill the footed slipper tub and relax in the hot spring water or shower off after a day of hiking and then kick back in the oversized chair, the round cuddle couch, or the recliner in front of one of the electric fireplaces. Enjoy the remarkable sunsets overlooking the valley from the top of the Big Hill. Enjoy the night sky, even the Milky Way, like through the veil of darkness only found in the remote night skies. Relax in front of the gas fire pit or slip into the hot tub for a relaxing soak.
Enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience in the Hocking Hills.

About the host
Hosted by Brenda & Eric Schmidt
Laurel Springs Farm is located just three miles from Laurelville in the scenic Hocking Hills. Owned and operated by Eric and Brenda Schmidt, it has represented both a sanctuary and a fresh start for us.
Our path into agriculture began after a fraudulent business merger left us with nothing but this land in the countryside. In the face of adversity, we chose to turn that chapter into a new way of life through farming. While the transition brought many challenges, the work has proven deeply rewarding.
Over the years, the farm has offered new experiences and countless opportunities to learn. Life has changed, and we no longer have all the animals we raised in the past, but those years were filled with meaningful moments we were truly fortunate to share. We feel especially blessed to have this beautiful land to shape and call our own. As our lives continue to unfold—and now as we enter retirement—it has remained a peaceful refuge for us.
Why they chose this property
Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Hocking Hills, our property offers guests a truly one-of-a-kind, memorable retreat. At the center is a cozy cabin, thoughtfully designed and built with care and attention to every detail.
Eric and Brenda personally created many of the cabin’s distinctive features, giving the space warmth, character, and a welcoming feel.
For the cabin’s frame and durability, we partnered with a skilled Amish community. The Amish built the cabin, moved it to its current spot at the foot of the “big hill” in 2005, and we later added a full-wrap porch to provide both easy convenience and stunning scenic views.
This cabin is especially meaningful to us—it was our home for eight years before we built our current home just down the lane. We hope everyone who stays here feels the same sense of comfort and connection, enjoying the cabin and making treasured memories in a place close to our hearts.
What makes this property unique
Secluded, yet close to Hocking Hills Parks and local amenities and adventures. Several acres are available for you to roam, including the big hill and access to Lance's Pond and the fishing shack where you will find fishing poles and basic tackle for catch and release fishing.
Ask about our seasonal offerings including blueberries, blackberries and chestnuts. Perfect for newlyweds, anniversaries, birthday celebrations and other special occasions and we very much appreciate the part we get to play in such beautiful memories.
