We enjoyed a lovely and comfortable Thanksgiving weekend at Mokki Stay with our close friends and all our adult kids. The cottage is beautiful and tastefully decorated, and located near to facilities such as Algonquin Park, The Haliburton Sculpture Trail and Haliburton Wildlife Reserve.
The busy world fell away as soon as we arrived! We were looking for a winter all-generations family weekend and this property offered everything we were dreaming of - and much more. Hosts Mark and Kat have created a true oasis with every exquisite, creative detail and made us feel at home. You want to stay here! This property is a dream come true in every way.
My family and I spent a lovely weekend at the Mokki cabin to celebrate a milestone anniversary. We required lots of space/many beds, and this cottage had room for all of us without feeling we were stepping on each others’ toes! Loved that it had a big table so we could all dine together 😁. It was clean, comfortable, and well decorated. The host was easy to get in touch with and replied quickly. The property was spacious and beautiful. We would absolutely stay here again!
We liked how spacious the upper and main level were, with various sitting areas to lounge & congregate. The bedrooms were lovely & beds were comfy. The stand alone tub was a fabulous feature.
Outside, we loved roaming around the property & forest. The snowshoes & sauna was a hit. We could feel a connection with nature & spotting deers was special.
Gorgeous cottage. The best we have ever stayed in!
The cottage has everything for comfortable stay: beautiful, contemporary, and cozy interior; kitchen equipped with great quality appliances and variety cooking ware (hosts Mark and Kat left many delicious staff for us to eat and drink, many dressing, seasoning, oils, and spices around were around for us to cook). 5 uniquely decorated bedrooms with comfortable beds. The view from the windows was spectacular. We used the sauna (the bathrobes and slippers were just like in 5 stars hotel) and fireplace, played many games – everything was working and in good condition.
The location is perfect: inside of the forest (beautiful hiking trail is just next to the cottage), but close to town, skiing resort, and dog sledding place.
We couldn't be happier with our 3 nights stay. Thanks so much to Mark and Kat - we had a wonderful time and, for sure, will be back!

Why they chose this property
mökki (Finnish) Noun: mökki A small, usually wooden house; cottage, cabin next to water
Mokki was inspired by my Finnish grandparents who enjoyed entertaining anyone who visited with their Finnish traditions. Their mokki, was off grid rustic cabin nestled in the forest on Trout Lake in Thunder Bay Ontario. We used to spend the summers chasing fire flies, fishing for tadpoles, and wandering through the forest. No matter season, my grandfather always had the wood burning sauna/steam bath ready for anyone to warm up and relax in.
