The Reagan family, one of Gatlinburg's most historic families, began building cabins around 1925. At the time, Otha Reagan worked stripping tanning bark in the Sugarlands area of what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and his wife, Emma, was a weaver at Arrowmont. In 1923, Otha and Emma had saved enough money $500 to be exact to purchase five acres of land on the Roaring Fork Creek where Brookside Resort is today. Just a few years later they began building small cabins and chicken coops on the property to rent to men who were in the area building the road from Newfound Gap to Clingmans Dome. These cabins were built with timbers from the Roaring Fork School House and Church, and some were built from log homes moved straight out of the National Park. Many of the Reagan family's ancestors were even born in these cabins! In 1971, Gatlinburg Southern Building Code required the remodel of nearly all the buildings in the area to a Bavarian type of exterior, so the Reagan cabins were updated to conform.
Not too long after that in 1980, all of the original cabins and chicken houses were moved to their present location in picturesque Emert's Cove by a local river hangout called the Flint Rock Swimming Hole. To make a few larger cabins to accommodate larger families, two of the original cabins were placed on each side of a concrete slab to form a bedroom and a bathroom, and the middle was built to form a living area. Don't worry, though, the cabins haven't lost any of their history. Rumor has it that old chicken feed bags from the cabins earliest years have been found in their attics! Today's owners are proud to bring a little piece of their family's Gatlinburg history to your Gatlinburg vacation!

The cabin was a little dated but all amenities worked well and we had a fantastic stay! Close to a lot of fun experiences in the area. We loved the creek behind the property.

Our stay was amazing, communication was on point with owners! The cabin was clean, warm and cozy when we arrived! They had the heat on, Christmas tree lit up and it was so beautiful and cozy! Our view of the river/creek was amazing!

We enjoyed our stay. The place is clean. The creek in the front is really nice. Our kid spent a lot of time there. The location is convenient. We came in the middle of the summer. The only downside is that there is no AC in the bedrooms, just in the living room. But overall we like the place.

This property was just as described and pictured. The location, right on the river, is wonderful. I could have spent the whole time on the porch listening to the water. We had a small family reunion, 2 couples, and were able to put together a turkey dinner.

We booked the cabin for an extended Spring Break weekend. The cabin was as described. Pleasant surprise that there is a river behind it and the sounds of rushing water was soothing. The only thing that was off, was in the open areaa between two cabins, a few groups of people came along to hold small weddings. My children and I felt a bit awkward to be outside in space we had paid to be in. Otherwise, we had a great trip and will consider staying with this property again.

Thank you for your review. The property is one of seven at this location. Wedding parties like the area along the river. We hope you will visit with us again soon.
We aren’t regulars to VRBOs. This was our first. It was exactly what we were looking for. A couple of things that I’d suggest or share: it gets pretty warm in the unit even with AC on lowest setting especially with only 1 AC for full cabin. Fans were provided but I sweated most nights. The river was amazing and I really loved the riverside deck. There was a lot of vegetation that blocked the river view from the deck that would be nice if it were cut back. Last, improvements to the river access would be so nice. Overall, we’d stay again, but during a cooler season.

Thank you for your review. So glad it was what you were looking for. Thank you for the feedback on the AC and river view. We will take a look at those items and see where we can improve. We hope you will visit with us again soon.
My family and I stayed here for 6 days and 5 nights, and it was absolutely perfect for us. The two-bedroom cabin had everything we needed and was just steps away from the river, which made for such a peaceful setting. My husband loved fly fishing right in the backyard, and our daughter had so much fun playing in the open yard and splashing around by the river. Even our two mini dachshunds had the time of their lives running around the big yard! The cabin itself was cozy and well-equipped. The open living area and kitchen were great for hanging out, and the rooms had heaters to keep us comfortable. It’s about 6 miles from downtown Gatlinburg, which was perfect—not too far but far enough to enjoy some quiet away from the busy downtown.I highly recommend this place! The property manager was incredibly helpful and quick to respond. When we had an issue with the automatic lock, he came out right away and replaced it. He even shared some great tips for fishing spots and things to do around Gatlinburg. We had such a great stay and would love to come back!
