About this property

Big discount ! 16th Century Manor House with private pool

Charming château (1130 sq ft rental) on nearly two acres of land with far views. The house is between the Dordogne River valley (canoeing and castles) and the medieval pilgrimage village of Rocamadour (both 35 minutes away), and then the Gouffre de Padirac with its underground lake. The lovely hilltop market town of Gourdon (all shops) is ten miles away, and the villages (some shops) of Le Vigan and Payrac nearer by.
Living room with old fashioned fireplace ("cantou") typical of the Quercy and Dordogne regions, sofa and three armchairs. (wood for fires can be purchased.) The living room gives onto the outside (glass door), the stairs to the night level, and stairs down to the kitchen (six steps). Large (430 sq ft) country kitchen with table and chairs, and a double door that gives onto the stone terrace in the courtyard (small table and chairs). Large refrigerator, gas stove, microwave oven, dishwasher, coffee maker. In an adjacent area, clotheswasher. Upstairs, the two bedrooms and the bathroom on the same landing. Each bedroom has a double bed and a single bed, and built-in walnut hanging cupboards and drawers. Floors of terra cotta and wood. The tiled bathroom has a toilet, a small armoire, a washbasin and a bathtub with a shower hose. Unlimited hot water.
Outdoors are two large tables with chairs for summer pleasure, a barbecue and of course the pool (500 sq ft max depth 5 ft, exclusive to the tenants), with pool furniture and parasols.

The owner (English and French speaking) lives in a separate part of the manor house (bit with the tower) with her cat.

The house is 480 yards from a large road (A 20), which you can see from certain parts of the property and which you can hear. The daytime average is 50 decibels, which is not much. No one has ever complained about it, but because it is there I have lowered the rental price.

About the host

I am Franco-American and have lived my whole adult life in France. You could say that that life has centered on this house, where I raised my children and which I have dragged from the middle ages into the 21st century.

Why they chose this property

This property is perfectly situated for day trips to all the wonderful tourist sites of this very prestigious part of Southwestern France. You would have to stay several months to see it all... or maybe several years. The house itself with its outdoors furniture, trees and fine pool is a very pleasant and restful place to just hang out.

What makes this property unique

Quite a rare property with a past of many centuries. During part of the Hundred Years' War the valley below was a boundary between France and England - we're on the English side, with the tower all set to keep an eye on the Frenchies.
